A friend of mine told me there is a huge revival going on in Florida. Some bloke named Todd Bentley- I think?
Is this another Benny Hinn type wheeler and dealer?
If you go there they can give this special blessing to you then you can take it back to your church(sounds like the Toronto blessing to me again)
Healings and all sorts of things are reported to be going on.
Anyone know about this???

I've heard of Bentley.
He's from Canada, and came out of the "Toronto Blessing" movement.
From what I've heard and read, he seems more showman than substance.
It's all about the "outpouring" of the Spirit.
The emphasis of his "teaching" is "revelation" - prophecy. The Bible takes a back seat to "prophecy" and seems to be used only as proof-text to the prophecy itself.

It is live on God TV twice a day at 10 am and 7 pm Florida time. Think they are on day 44 today. I have seen some of it. Lots of testimony of healing and laying on of hands but little teaching in what I have seen. Tonight they are anointing everyone with oil.

No teaching is a worry! If feelings and emotions are all we go by and Scripture is not been taught correctly , well that's where people end up looking for the experience and not the Creator God. Experiences come and go but God remains and does not run off and leave us. Too many churches promote the experience and do not teach the Word of God. It is their responsibility to teach the Word. Not saying experiences are all bad, I am sure we all have experienced God in a wonderful way in our lives. It is the, 'I can't wait for Sunday morning to get that buzz I have been hanging out for all week'. I still believe God heals today, however I am also sceptical in all the so called 'healers' out there today.

You could watch for days on end, and I suspect there would no substance.

I watched for just 5-10 minutes last night (because of this thread). At the most he used a total of 20 words (2-3 sentences), he just kept repeating the same thing over and over again. No substance, no Scripture.
And don't get me started on the audience - I'd have to say something that I'd probably regret (and maybe get attacked for) so I'll just leave that be.

Bentley is an illusionist, mesmerist, but not anyone to be taken seriously, less you are of the charismatic/Vineyard sort of person. It's all disgusting to me to be honest(the Lakeland "revival").
Peace.

That's painting Charismatics with a very broad brush.

Indeed it is....but the basis for the charismatic movement is experience....finding the next great "move of God" is it not? People are getting moved in Lakeland apparently.

I personally think that if miracles are being performed and confirmed, we need to be paying more attention. Is he a heretic, or isn't he? Does he follow the Bible? does he teach the bible?
If healing are taking place, it's either very good or extremely troubling. I don't think we should brush it off as charismatic hoo-ha just yet. Is something really taking place? and if it is, we should deal with it according to scripture. in Florida especially, this is something the baptist church does not need to be silent on.
also, when dealing with this, and i might not be to popular for saying this, we need to weigh Truth by the bible not on how our traditions say we should act.

I agree with you daniel777. I am an auto-skeptic when it comes to any sort of claims of modern day faith healing, laying on of hands, supposed miracles of deliberate action, etc. God works in mysterious ways, not thru a false teacher who condones chaos as "the christian experience".
Can anyone confirm if it's on the same level as the Pensacola Outpouring or something similar to that type of tripe?

I was perusing the Spirit-filled forums here...and came upon a thread in the WoF forum regarding this "revival".....look for a thread titled: Pastor has come back from Lakeland.(or something similar). COUNTERFEIT REVIVAL.....nuff said.
God Bless.

It all makes me sick and I apologize for my constant posting on this abomination of hell. It makes me sick that ignorant people, fall for this stuff and then think this is what following Christ is all about!!!!!
It makes ME SICK that this very forum allows crap like this to be discussed and promoted in other parts of the forum crowd!!!!(although by me posting this...I'm prayerfully NOT promoting this filth!!)
Read the Spirit Filled section here....it's pitiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't like what I've got to preach about this, then report my post....honestly I will keep reiterating this fact until I am prevented from it.
Warning: please read the item regarding the watching of videos taped at this revival BEFORE you choose to watch any of the vids!!!!
It is NOT OF GOD, it is from Satan....Nuff said.

PLEASE PRAY
I have a friend who told me all about this so called revival and I think he is going to be caught up into it. I have sent him an email explaining the situation and I just pray that he sees that I am doing it because I care for him. His pastor at the moment has gone to Florida to get this revival and to bring it back to his church (apparently thats what they do). So, please be praying for my friend. I would appreciate that hugely!!!
Thanks

Not that I believe in the heresy that is the Toronto "blessing" or the similar Brownsville revival, but this quote begs me to ask
If feelings and emotions are all we go by and Scripture is not been taught correctly , well that's where people end up looking for the experience and not the Creator God
What if what someone is experiencing the unfathomable power of the Most High? Do we say it's a false experience just because we aren't experiencing it? This is not to discount the proper teaching of Christian doctrine, but isn't there room for both?

I think we have all experienced God's power in our lives. So there is room for both. However I believe as Bible believing Baptists we are to put Scripture above experience and make the Word of God our main focus. It is when people chase after the latest and greatest Spirit manifestations they start seeking the experience and then will accept any froth and bubble as preaching.
I believe God can and does still heal people today, I have seen it and experienced it. I know of other Baptists who have experienced God's healing power. I have also seen the use of Spiritual Gifts used in Baptist churches appropriately whereas I have also seen the S/Gifts abused in some Pentacostal churches.
I went in 1995 to a 'Toronto blessing' church service and I prayed before hand that if this was from God that it would be made so obvious to me that I would know. Halfway through the night a so called preacher got up on stage and spoke on John 2 , 'Water into wine' passage. The speaker spoke, and in sections of his talk he would speak like a drunkard. He was 'drunk on the spirit' apparently. I and my wife walked out feeling sick in the stomach. It left us appalled at this church and the Toronto blessing. The only reason we went was because a friend at work invited me and I knew nothing of what would happen until I got there. My friend asked what was wrong and we said it just does not feel right. He then said, 'Oh, it is not for everyone!'
My pastor said to me a while ago he felt like a dinosaur. He feels like all the other preachers in our town are preaching a modern 'no meat' all 'milk' sermon. I said to him-just keep preaching the Word of God -people will come. Our church is growing really well!!! We are looking at building on or relocating because of good numbers attending.
Sorry, got a little side tracked!
Not negating experience just it is healthy spiritually for it to be in the correct place- below Scripture and reason.

This abomination has gone one step further in it's claims:
http://pjmiller.wordpress.com/2008/05/21/lakeland-event-to-be-carried-forward-by-13-wise-virgins/
It's like he's trying to make the Toronto"Blessing" and Pensacola seem like mere teaparties...and people are calling it all from God. Cripes!

I received an email from my friend who told me about this so called 'revival'. He is taken in by it hook, line and sinker. I told him of my concerns and he just rattled on how it could be the last wave of God's Spirit's power before the end, etc, etc. I am really worried about my friend. He had a bad experience with the pastor in our Baptist church (which he brought on himself). Unfortunately he is very strong willed and now he has found a church that he thinks is 'grace filled'. I have suggested to him to find a Bible believing and Bible preaching church but I do believe he is settling for something less.
