"Mormon" Misnomer

In the profile, to select one's religion, there's a choice for Mormon. I believe this is the only item on the list that is represented in the colloquial, or slang. A more official designation would be Latter-day Saint (short for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), aka LDS. The term "Mormon" was a title given by dissidents as a derisive term, based on the church's additional scripture of the Book of Mormon — which is a reference to the compilation of the ancient prophet Mormon, not as a reference to some book of the church's. As such, the term "Mormonism" is likewise colloquial. The church doesn't commonly refer to itself as Mormons, and has never gone by that name. The other choices mentioned are more descriptive, preferable, appropriate, and consistent with the convention of the other listed religions. Besides, the term "Mormon" is a misleading title, in that many who know the church as Mormon are unaware that the church professes a belief in Jesus Christ. Use of the actual name or one of its shortened versions could help to clarify this point.

IOt is slang and the name morman came from an angel that Joseph Smith claims he has encountered named Moroni. I would like to see the slang name gone as well and replaced with LDS although i am not morman i know some LDS members that see it as offensive.

The real clincher should be that "Mormon" is not what The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has officially referred to itself as. If the moniker "Mormon" came about as a nickname and remains only a nickname, then it should not be the name of choice when offering a comparitive listing of religions and denominations. It actually shows a degree of misunderstanding on the part of those making such a list.

I'm not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but I am bumping this thread because I think it's a very reasonable request.
