Ah, so that's what happened. Our blessings got reset.
Well, tell you what (can you tell I live in Texas?). Maybe if we bless when we rep it's worthi it?

so it may not be a problem

Reps for what there worth :D
Hey I'll rep you back, for what it's worth. ;)
i don't see that they are even worth 50? mine hasn't changed in days; and i didn't see an increase in rep power by even 1 when i repped pgp just now
now see - to me they're worth a lot, even if my points don't go up
I get to read nice comments, I get lots of hugs, there's Scripture and prayer shared - all things that make me feel good - they're things that are beyond measure

Well worse right now is the cyclone's devastation in Myanmar with over 100,000 believed to be dead and a million homeless. This morning when I watched the news Myanmar's government was confiscating the goods sent into the country for relief. This is so sad. I have another son in Thailand right now, a marine. It would be good if they could go in to help, but probably they won't be allowed.
I'm editing this--now they are saying they will let aid in--

Jobs are coming soon. They'll definitely be added to the new system. I heard it might be just another day or two on the jobs.
The savings account is also going to be enabled in the next day or two. They're going carefully on this one so we hopefully won't go through any more re-sets back to Tuesday's amounts.

I moved to this, my main account because I royally messed up my living avatar on cffa43 - overstocked - so am finally going to play around with it on this one. does anyone know how to return items? I need to unload some items from that account because the page wont load completely - gets backlogged half way through - maybe someone can just completely reset it back to 0 inventory so I can start over?

I don't think you can return items (yet)
and from what I've read on the Living Avatar main site, they're also looking into that, so they don't have a solution yet either.

The tech folks are looking at another doll/armor type application. I've seen some screen shots. It appears to offer better functionality.
We'll need to give it a good testing before deciding anything for sure.

ravenscape

I've seen some that look a little grainy, but not all. I don't know the gif dither setting when Living Avatar converts the gif to one layer and saves the file, but if a dither algorithim is used, it will cause a more grainy appearance.
I don't think that's something I can control, but I'll poke around and see.

Make sure before you save your Avatar that the characters are layered up and that the background is layered down. My background I had put on last and it showed it all grainy, but when I layered it down, everything came out nice and crisp.

1. The profiles are still down, it was like this earlier.
2. Firefox is great all the time.
3. I don't think they will remove the stars based on one or two opinions; there are people who would kill to keep their stars. :) Although I wouldn't kill to keep the stars, I don't mind them.

a compromise, then:
make the stars smaller and fewer
say, a gold star = 20,000 reps
green star= 10,000
gray star= 5,000
then again, this is just the internet...and reps is nice, but I don't make it the center of my life, really. I don't make it an issue any bigger than anything else. that's my 2¢.

Well, I've noticed quite a few graphics changes. Little things, really, like the locks on the categories at the main page. What that implies, to me at least, is that backend work on the usergroup permissions is being done.
But, look at it this way--this is a large board that has just undergone a major overhaul. I doubt that the folks who're setting it up suddenly said, "Well, after a week's worth of work and months of planning, the board's crashing and things aren't working right (not to mention that some things haven't been added at all)... but that's good enough. Let's just leave it like that."

According to the techs, if they had of waited till all the bugs were ironed out, it would have been a month before the place reopened.
Whats the excuse for the crashes? I would hazard a guess and say that the tech guy has been working his butt off for over 2 months and isnt online to deal with problems today because hes taken some time off to be with his family

Well I have, mostly MySQL programming but some PHP as well, and it's a pain. Absolutely right though, I run PHP, MySQL and Apache on my dev computer, test all my changes there, and then publish live after it seems stable enough. Doesn't seem like they are doing that here... *shrugs* but rather doing a live fix rather than a simple restore and return to the dev computer/server to figure it out.
Though I’ve never messed around with vBulletin before, and the way CF has choked on it again and again, I wonder if it is even a good idea for me to use it on an upcoming project… hmmm.

MnPhysicist's Anouncement from April 6th this year...
"
First, we had a major database crash, compounded with some issues with the datacenter and server. That was rebuilt, albeit the time stamps are likely still messed up, and likely will be that way until CF is upgraded.
Going forward, CF has been replicated on a second system, including a copy of the database. That is being used as test bed, as well as a dry run for the upgrade. Rather than the original plan of migrate and tweak, Lee made a call to do it carefully, rather than rush and chase bugs for months
In addition, we did discuss bringing the site offline, but the call was made to keep it up, even if its hard to use.
Lee is doing a lot of work behind the scenes. Beyond the 3 server guys we had in the past, Lee has 2 more guys on it. He also has added more tech staff to assist with the upgrade.
I wish I had a definitive timeframe, but alas I do not at this time, either for repair, or for the upgrade. My guess is some things were unearthed which proved a lot more complex than expected.
I also wish to apologize for bad communications. Unlike in the past, where some usergroups were kept alive while the site was down, ie sort of a safe mode on a different server for comms and maintenance purposes, this time out, we are in the same boat as the members. Sometimes we can post and pm, and for much of the other times, we are locked out, or the site crashes on us.
In addition... I hope this works, annoumcements is broken, and I can't access it. This is an attempt to work around it, which may or may not be successful.
Again, my apologies
Ron"
If we have 5 tech guys working on this why is one guy out for personal reasons an issue?
Looks like we will be enduring the chasing of bugs for weeks at least in spite to the *plan* :sigh:

Kudos to all who are working so hard to make CF successful! I hope people will stop saying they don't like the new look, etc. Come on, let's be honest. How can anyone not like the new look? Just look at my character!!! I used to have hardly any space for my lion. Now I have a wolf as well. And the background castle is really cool. I wanted to add a few butteflies in the sky but I thought that would take away the beautiful medieval atmosphere.
Wonderful work, chaps!!!
May more come to know the truth through CF!!!

The living Avatar program may be eliminated and we may switch to a different program all-together...
It does not even work for me... I spent hours adding all my stuff and it's too much for the current program to handle so I can't even set up a new CF Character at present...
The only solution they have is to delete ALL the items and then I get to shop all over limiting my *stuff* so a CF Character can be set up.. :sigh:
Which if we switch programs... the process starts all over again...

you just mirror the database to testvb and you are up and running, then you develop one alongside the other until you are ready to make the new site live...

for myself, I'm pretty ashamed that I'm getting worked up about details on a website when the person who's writing/installing/implementing the program is dealing with the passing of a loved one.
I was so sad to read this. Y'all, please cut Nexia a little slack. He's got a LOT on his plate, and some of it is way more important than a message board.

CF has always had bugs. It will always have bugs. I appreciate the time and effort going into a project of this magnitude. It is not like they have a magic wand and can fix everything. Some people will complain about anything.
If things are soooo bad, leave, and come back or shoot, don't come back at all. It is an internet forum. It is not the end of the world.

I agree. I get frustrated with CF being down a lot(who doesn't) but I understand there are people working on it, and that they will get it up as fast as they can. I think those working on all the bugs are doing a great job!

The characters are a type of avatar, so unfortunately no, not at this time.

whoever is fiddling doesn't seem to know much taking half a day to change nothing and causing multiple crashes..
name something that has changed today because of the crashes, a major piece of code added that would justify half a day of problems.
nope, never did them.... I have done programming years ago. I would think someone could make a sample database taking a dozen members of the forum and set up a server and try code on it without taking down a forum live.
"Whoever is fiddling" is working on one of the biggest, most intricate, websites on the internet, some of the members of which are impatient, greedy humans that can't seem to do more than condemn someone else for not doing things the way they want it done, which is interesting since this is supposed to be a Christian site. Not much of a Christian attitude, if you ask me.
Had it been done the way Erwin did it 2 years ago when we had a major upgrade, the site would have been closed for over 2 weeks, instead of two days. LeeD chose to bring the site up with the bare basics being done because he knew how much everyone here didn't want it closed, but instead of being grateful, even though patience has been requested, all I see if a bunch of complaints and insults.
I apologized to nexia for my own personal immature behavior, and I see a few others have too. It would be nice if everyone understood that there are humans behind the screen in front of us who have lives just like us.

I believe the reason why not much has been done by the techs was that the main tech dude was mourning the loss of his god mum

So the next time anyone is tempted to complain that things arent moving fast enough to their liking, that real life does get in the way, and please cut the tech guy some flipping slack

yeah...... I complain perhaps too much..... but I *feel* there are many out there that feel as I do but are scared to complain because they don't want to be labeled.... and be seen as unChristlike.
It is better to complain and get it over with reasonably and be understood than to hold it back and spread behind the back rumors and discontent while acting Christlike....... IMO.

I need to ask everyone to take a breath and calm down just a bit. We're all impatient, and wanna be there now, including me. But, that's not how reality works. It's taking time to get every bell and whistle configured, working right, and the whole shebang working reliably.
Please don't take it out on each other. Be patient. Hug a tree. Plant a flower. Hug your mom. Enjoy a beautiful day outdoors.

What about having patience, as was requested? What about human decency to let the tech guy have some time to mourn the death of a close friend and family member?
Or do you demand everything to be handed to you on the spot the minute you demand it? Do you have any concept what it takes to upgrade a system like this with all the features everyone here is demanding? I doubt it.

nice avoid too.... does this forum have ads? Do you think it is wrong to complain to a TV or radio station that does when you don't feel they are giving proper service? I have done things for free and at times the complaints that are justified made me realize I was messing things up so I paid more attention to what I was doing and made fewer mistakes and became better at doing that. It wasn't praise that helped me straighten out but the truth.

That's correct. There is a test site. But, the CF beta testers (many of whom post in this thread - you know who you are) are muuuuch better than any test site for finding the fatal flaws in a new configuration or add-on product.

I think some of the frustration is not from waiting for all the features to come online, but because the site was down so much yesterday.
Expectations were high because we were told that migrating to the new software/hardware would alleviate the down time CF had been experiencing.
I know that the upgrade process is not complete, but at this point it is probably reasonable to assume that the core software and hardware is up and running.
I think the downtime has eroded some confidence somewhere along the line.

exactly.... an explanation would have helped.. I have seen on other sites when things happen too often the exact thing that happens here happens too.... people complain till the people in charge feel obligated to explain.
usually this does sort of *encourage* those in charge to be more open about things... but most people realize if not for the complaints they would not have bothered at all to say a thing.
