View Full Version : NEW! How to Create Your Character

CelticGrace
7th May 2008, 05:18 PM
Step one:
Go to your "User CP" and find "Edit Avatar"

Step two: click on "Living avatars"

Step three: If you do not have any items or would like something new, click "Purchase" If you just want to edit out, click "Edit Avatar".

Step four: once you purchased your avatar click "edit avatar" and then create it the way you want it. What you need to do is click the item you want first (if you are using a background click this first) then click "Add item", you shall see it in the box like so.

Step five: once you have body and clothing items all in, and have dragged everything where you want it to appear, click "Save Avatar".

*Extra* If you are wanting to crop your stuff, click "Crop Tool" now note that this will only let you crop a very small bit.
You can change the size of the crop tool, but it will still always be a square. To change the size, hold the Shift key as you left-click on a corner of the crop box.

You are done!

WHERE are the helmets now?

CelticGrace

There's a folder called Outerwear, Etc. Within that folder is another called Helmets, Hats and Scarves.

The size of the cropping box can be easily changed by holding down the shift key while dragging one of the corners of the box. It will always stay square in shape though.

CelticGrace
7th May 2008, 06:21 PM
If you had a limited edition uber-expensive armor item, talk to Ravenscape about it. If it wasn't a limited edition, lemme know what it was and I'll see if I can find it in the many folders that we now have LOL

Did something right but crop box is still there, cant get rid of it. One item I am looking for is my eagle, the sword of David,, dont even remember now all of it. I really liked my character the way it was. WEill the ultra expensive stuff come back as am saving to buy the items if available.

CelticGrace
7th May 2008, 06:28 PM
I've seen the eagle in somebody's character, so I know it's still around but I don't know exactly where it is right off the top of my head. If you had an uber-expensive limited edition item, talk to Raven about it. She didn't want to put those out while everything was free.

Melly Monster
7th May 2008, 06:29 PM
To get rid of it make sure your crop box is under your item preview "I hope this won't confuse you" Here is a screen shot from my living avatar area on the forum I run...

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y112/Xx_Melissa_xX/Melly/LA%20tut/crop.png

Now click on "Remove Item" and that should remove the crop.

If you select the crop box you should be able to hit 'remove item' and it will go away.

All items are free or 1 blessing right now.

If you had some of the expensive items that are not included in the current inventory, contact someone on staff and they will help you get those items back.

It's a bit fiddly sometimes if you don't get right on the corner. It may be better if you first remove the background , resize the crop box, then re-add the background again :)

I was wondering kindof the same thing. I want to move my character. Is there a way I can tie all the layers together so that I don't have to remove each item and them put them back and move every single one of them to the correct spot every time?

I noticed I can only select either the last item I added of the second to last. I can't select the background or the body if I have added other items.

In my character I used one of the Living Avatar backgrounds. The old CF backgrounds are too small and will not fit the box unless you crop it really tight.

To my relief after some fiddling around, was that you can use the items list to press the item/background or what you want to change out and then press remove. So there is no need to remove layer by layer to scroll down to what you intend to change. :tutu:

Ok blueanjel... how did you get your avatar box that smaller size?
I don't want mine so huge for my character box, it pixelizes my bg too much. (resorted to a regular avatar till I have time to figure this out) -

If I can make the box itself smaller, it won't pixelize (probly).

Since there was no car of the size I needed anywhere in the armory, I copied my avatar pic to disc as a .gif,
then used Paint.Net to add the car behind us. Saving it again as a .gif had the effect of flattening it all to one
layer, and shrinking the avatar to the size shown. I then edited my CF avatar and put my doctored picture in
as a personalized avatar uploaded from my disc. I hope this doesn't violate any copyrights.

PS: There is some weird problem with word wrap going on with this page. I manually entered line breaks to
keep the words from scrolling off the page.

Yes, unfortunately, I've found it necessary to move every individual
piece. :( Sorry. I hope I'm wrong, and it isn't really necessary. Does
anyone know a trick I don't?

Gregged
8th May 2008, 09:56 AM
Nope... No tricks unfortunately... Remember that the CF characters were designed for a completely different system.... which is why the Living Avatar characters have body with face (eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows etc), hair etc all as one image. With the CF characters, many images go to make up the face, hair etc. So, the "trick" I suppose is to get a "Chibi" character.

None of those items were supposed to be available. The helmet of salvation somehow got turned back on but it was accidental. If you bought that item, it has disappeared from your inventory in the last hour or so.

I'm sorry about that folks, but those items will not be for sale during the 0 blessings bonanza. For people who owned them before (and we have records to check regarding who those people are), they can contact me by PM and we'll work it out so you get your items back without having to pay a million blessings all over again.

Once again, I'm sorry we can't let you guys have those items for free. There are members who've paid anywhere from 100,000 blessings to 7,000,000 blessings for the limited edition and one-of-a-kind items. It wouldn't be fair to them.

Thanks,

Raven

It's easier to grab because it is on the top layer. whatever is on the top layer is what is grabbed.

That's correct... the uber-expensive, rare items are not available to the general membership while everything is free. Not sure what your problem with the shirt is, but you can nudge an item pixel-by-pixel once you get it close to the location you want.

Right now, we can't have both avatars and characters. Some people are choosing to place either their avatars or their characters in their signatures so they can have both images displayed.

It's possible, but not certain. There are apparently some database problems that are causing some of the trouble with the Living Avatars, and resolving them could make a big difference once the tech guys can get to it. Right now there's no way to return items, or to give them away to other members. Some people have run into problems due to having a LOT of armor items, but it's not clear whether there's a magic number that will cause things to cluge up.

There are some buttons on the equip page that lets you lower and raise the "layers" of the picture. After you add the background, keep clicking the "lower layer" button until it's behind everything else.

Raven,
i really wish someone would have mentioned that there were only a certain amt of items u could purchase before it slows it down so much that its impossile to make a character! those of us who owned over 500 items have lost everything! i cant make a character, iu cant giveaway the excess of items, i cant sell them back. now ive lost over 100,00 blessings worth of stuff AND cant have a character. IF informed beforehand i could have atleast sold back some items before the changeover. I would hope there will at the very least be a refund of blessings for myself and the many others in my same position

Nexialys has told me that we should be able to get Living Avatar to work better without the database problems we're having now, which cause things to slow and freeze. If we can't get LA to work, then we'll have to look at other doll application options.

LA has some nice features that people are enjoying - the ability to have more than one character in the space, the ability to equip more than 3 special items, and the new backgrounds and Chibi characters, too.

I know it's hard to be patient, but I think we'll be able to resolve most if not all of the issues. Any issues we can't resolve, we'll definitely reimburse the blessings fully - not the 1/3 back from the old system.

I can add your name to the list of people who want their Living Avatars reset to zero items so they can start over, if you like. I'm not sure how long that takes, though or when it will happen.

To shrink and stretch them you hold down the shift key and use the mouse - i think you left click.
I probably got too much stuff too - I did not know there was a limit or problem with doing that. :sigh:

Thanks for the info on shrink and stretch! Cool!

No one knew in advance, or we would definitely have discouraged people from restocking everything right away. The problem didn't manifest until we had so many people using the system. It didn't show up in testing at all. There doesn't seem to be a hard and fast limit. I've stocked more stuff than some of the people having problems, just to see what was going on. Still haven't purchased everything I had, though!

I had probs with the click and "drag" feature tonight! Whew! It kept dragging the wrong item. I finally had to abandon that way entirely and just click on left and right which took a long time.

I found out that I can't "drag" stuff when I am in zoom mode. That's what caused the problem apparently.

Yes, but most of the items are free right now, so that you can restock your inventory. However, I recommend waiting to get items that you won't use a lot or right away. There are database problems that occur when people equip items when they have purchased a whole lot (more than 250 or 500? somewhere around there).

Right now everything, including the seasonal items are available for no blessings so people can restock. Hi Ravenscape

This 1st. part doesn't "directly" tie-in with these above Instructions; but

INdirectly it does, as now I can't DELETE our *present avatar*, in order to "create a New CF-character".

The added 3 snafus ^_^ :
Three weeks ago, via an obscure Global-notice, "Photobucket" Users were told to

Unable to access the account for the past 4-days, they e-mailed today issuing a New account.
However, the former "Photobucket"-account, had our *present avatar* stored in it;
but they have not yet TRANSFERRED that over; so I have no access to it.

I have no clue  how to set-UP the new Account,
as a different person set-up the original first account.

more pertinent questions:
1. The many, many "items" I clicked on, to Add to the new wardrobe :),

2. I can't get this new CF-body created.

1. The items you purchase are all stored in the "Equip Items" page.

2. To equip an item, go to the "Equip Items" link. Then click "Add Item". Then position it where you want it. Start with a background, and then build up from there. If you equip something out of order you can use the Layer down/up buttons to get the item in the right position in the layers.

3. The Ice arena is not uploaded yet. I don't think we'll be getting any additions/improvements to the Living Avatars until we have the Pets installed, but I could be wrong.

If you want to save your current avatar to your hard drive before creating a Living Avatar then do this:

Put your mouse over your avatar and click the right mouse button. Then click the "Save Picture As..." menu item. Then pick a folder and enter a file name. Save the file. Then, you can reload that avatar at any time if you want to replace the Living Avatar.

Hi Ravenscape :)
re "My Pictures" : right now, I have no less than 57 :D pictures cluttering up the desk-top like a jungle ^_^,
because I don't know how to get any of them into... a "Folder".

Does, what you wrote, hold true for ALL computers? - We are using Vista, Mozilla Firefox.

When I click on "Save picture as...", there is another box that Opens on the left, and on its top it has my Name, and
in there is an icon for a section, with a gold-Star. ~ Is that what you meant when you said:
"create new folder" icon (a folder with a little starburst) at the top of the dialog box, and make a new folder for the item."

Forgive me Ravenscape, I am lost... - and aside that, I am really afraid
to start messing-around, with anything other than what is on the screen,
because what happens if I BREAK the computer , or at the very least,
get these pictures so lost that I will never ^_^ be able to find them again, LOL

And every time I have tried to take a "class" on Computer-usage, they merely managed to get me more confused

(I use 'computers' in the medical-profession daily;
but a Life-support system is alot different, than what we are using here. They have certain functions;

I don't think you can transfer an entire folder to photobucket, per se, but you can upload multiple pictures at one time. Where it shows you to upload the pictures (upper right corner of the screen on your pb account), there should be a link to "add more pictures" below the three browse buttons. Clicking on this will give you more browse buttons. Each one allows you to upload one picture.
