View Full Version : Why do i find this such a beautiful creed?

Personally I believe that the united Church of Canada epitomises so much of what is wrong about modern Christianity. For example, they decided to remove Christ from the classic anthem "Jesus Christ is risen today" and instead replace Christ with "glorious hope". They seek to replace any accounts of miracle or divinity from Christianity and their Christology is wildly flawed.

However i read their 'creed' on their website and found it quite inspiring - there must be something wrong with me!

We are not alone,

we live in God's world.

We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus,
the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others
by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God's presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.

We are not alone.

Thanks be to God.

Certainly i grant that they were a little too inspired by the X-Files, but as modern statement of faith i thought it was quite inspired. If it didn't come from this Church i would promote elements to those who are creating the new CF creed.

All truth, if it's TRUE, is God's truth. I agree that "rewriting the Creed" is not an answer to anything..but statement of faith, in each statement, is the elements of the Truth, which we know is not just an abstract idea, but also a Person.

I agree.

We know His Words, We know Him when we see Him.

Just because many fall on the path and fall into heresy, does not mean that they do not truly Love Him, and that he does not use them for His purposes.

Are you serious that you think there is something "wrong" with you?

Lol, there was an element of facetiousness about it (it took me about five minutes to learn how to spell that!).

It was more a reflection that a Church body who i would usually ignore completely had created something i felt was really quite profound.

Twas all.

It took me five minutes to pronounce that word...LOL!

You know though, the Psalmist says: "For My Word shall not return to me void; but it shall accomplish that for which I sent it." Guess we're looking at Him in action with this huh???
Pretty cool!
God bless.

That is a beautifully worded creed. I would have no problems reciting it.
