View Full Version : Denominational vs Congregational

Some of us noticed that "Congregational Forums" was changed to "Denominational Forums".

While to many (most?) here the two may seem synonymous, for Catholics and Orthodox (Eastern and Oriental) the two are very different.

Now, I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to convet anyone or convince them that they are wrong on their view, but for Catholics nad ORthodox, our respective Churches are NOT denominations. We don't believe that an invisible Church made up of many denomnations exists. We believe that there is only one visible Church. I realize that most of you (including the owner, I am guessing) does not agree with our POV, and that's fine. But I am only stating facts, that how we view our Church is NOT compatible with the definition of a denomination. Even from an outside spectator, the only conclusion one can come to is that the Catholic/ORthodox definition of the Church is not compatible with the concept of denominations.

Now, congregational is perfectly fine. We are a congregation as are the Lutherans and so on.

So, I am NOT asking that anyone change their PERSONAL view on the Church and it's visibility or lack-there-of but rather to realize that the use of the word Denominational is not inclusive, while congregational was.

Thank you so much for considering my request to change it back to what it was before with an open mind and a loving heart.

In Christ,

Try and Wiki this. It's not really a new forum request. It's Demoninations is now a Category as is Faith Groups.

I'm sorry Richard. I didn't understand. Is it that this request is in the wrong forum? If so, can you move it so we can discuss it?

Since Congregationals is the main section heading, there needs to be a name for the sub-section that is currently labeled "Denominations". If someone can think of a more appropriate heading that is roughly equivalent to denomination but doesn't have an inherent Protestant implication, you might want to suggest it rather than debate the issue.

The Advisors and staff are talking about this right now. I cannot promise changes. But we are discussing the issue and taking it very seriously.

I think placing non-denominational folks under denominations is a laugh riot. Oxymoronic.

I would suggest "Christian Faiths" instead of Denominations.
mt 2 bits worth.:)

Thanks.

I really like Koyla's suggestion.

Or, even "Christian Traditions" although that could seem very loaded to those that fear tradition.

Or, perhaps change the overall heading that is currently Congregational.

Or, keep that title, but call this "Specific Congregations" which I don't think is redundant.

Just some suggestions.

PS: To clarify, my intent was never to debate, only to understand and my myself understood. Again, Meh, thank you for your cordial and respectful response.
