Well... I was drifting away from CF already... and I think this change finishes me off. Besides being harder to find anything, getting logged off every 5 minutes and all the fun stuff missing... this design is absolutely killing my eyes- it's triggering a migraine :(

Most of those problems are temporary, and will be fixed soon (hopefully, they'll start with the color scheme... I'm getting a headache, too.) Things'll be better tomorrow, and better still the next day.

As I understand it, you won't be reimbursed because everything costs exactly one Blessing to reget. Somebody posted a bunch of links a few pages back which should (hopefully) explain everything.

Blessings and the Bank seem to be currently offline, and Characters may not be visible in your posts until tomorrow.

At one Blessing per item, it would seem. On the plus side, you now get more than one Blessing per post you make (some people get 10 or more), so it'll all come out heavily in your favor.

For the love of something, this site has just been through a major upgrade, there will be bugs and things that dont work right. There has been months of discussion and planning around this change, masses and masses of work that most people wont see


However instead of getting our knickers in a knot, can we please show the techie people a little lattitude as they work to get the site up and running well

Hmmm... I'm sure staff are tired of hearing the same questions over and over, but if you're really that annoyed, you can always step back and let others help people find there way around for a bit. The armoury can be found by editing your avatar settings in your control panel. When you click on the avatar link you will have the option to open the "living avatar" window and when you click on "purchase items" you will find that everything is priced at 1 point for the next month or so :)

On the blue bar toward the top of your screen, "User CP" will appear on the left. Click it.

That'll open your Control Panel. In the options listed on the left, click on "Edit Avatar".

Your current Avatar should then be shown, and below it will be a box labeled "Living Avatars"... inside it is a link Click here to create or update your Living Avatar. (http://christianforums.com/living_avatars/index.php)

That should get you where you need to be.

i have living avatars on a couple of other forums and one thing that you might want to take into account is that once an item is purchased it can not be returned (at least it can not be as far as the current program) ... unless cf tech have modified it in some way to do be able to do this...

also all items purchased will be displayed on one page and you select from there...so you can have really long loading times and have to search through a lot of items if you have tons of items purchased...

therefore, i would suggest getting only your very favorite items and ones you will be equipping a lot for now and add as you go...just a suggestion ;)

As stated not all of the new features are online as yet...
however if you follow the directions to EDIT AVATAR then Clicking on LIVING AVATAR...you WILL find the armory and teh CF Dollies.

The rest of the goodies will be coming online as we progress along this week...

You're really only looking for the Edit Avatar (http://christianforums.com/profile.php?do=editavatar) link under "Settings and Options" in your Control Panel (left hand side.) Once you click on it, the Living Avatar section and link will appear in the middle of your screen.

Yeah, that seems to be happening to a bunch of folks all over the site. They seem to have taken the Blessings system offline for now, so maybe when that's back, the Living Avatar system will work, too, since the two are interrelated.

I imagine (and hope) that Blessings were only taken down in order to fix some technical bug--they were working earlier this evening. I'm sure they'll be back up tomorrow.

As I said earlier, you only have to spend 1 Blessing to get an item from the Armory (except for possibly some special items,) and you now get much, much more than 1 Blessing everytime you post--some people are getting 10 or more per post.

So, in the end, you'll come out WAY ahead.

Your Character can be designed and outfitted, but cannot be seen on your posts yet. The ETA for that to be fixed is sometime tomorrow.

what is bad is to keep on harping on this...your opinions are yours and his are his and he is the owner, that is my point...

sorry that you do not like the way the new owner wants to run the site, but sometimes we just do not get our way about things, it is just a fact of life and we have to go on...

it would be really nice if you could just accept things and enjoy yourself here...none of us is going to have everything the way we like it to be here or anywhere else except maybe our own homes...things change and we have to either change with it or move on...but to continue to be miserable and complain about it is not beneficial to anyone, including yourself... hope you can adjust to things like all of the members here are trying to do...

Blessings and the Bank were taken down a couple of hours ago. They'll most likely be back tomorrow (I hope). The Rep Stars... no idea. This is the first I've heard that they've gone missing (I have Rep turned off and the images blocked, so I can't see them in any event.)

But... it's probably just a glitch the Techs are working on. Check back later.

When I signed up to be a SS I did so for many reasons but mostly for the fact that I could have more reps to use AND to where I can rep someone more than once and not have to wait to rep them again. I just tried to rep someone more than once and it tells me I must spread around my reputation before I can rep them again.:(

If I'm not going to be getting what I paid for I want my money back. We SS were given 40 reps a day and unlimited repping. That's a feature I wanted and enjoyed. If that's being taken away I see no reason, for myself, to be a SS. Cause quite frankly with that taken away...what incentive is there to be a SS? :(

I'm praying this will be fixed and we'll have what we had before the upgrade. Right now I'm angry and sad at the same time. :( Also, please know this has nothing to do with all the hard work that was done with this upgrade. I think all who were involved did an outstanding job and I'm extremely thankful to have the board back.

However, I think as a SS ...and a member, I should be able to point out something that I feel needs to be corrected ASAP as you're going to have a LOT of unhappy folks here.

When I signed up to be a SS I did so for many reasons but mostly for the fact that I could have more reps to use AND to where I can rep someone more than once and not have to wait to rep them again. I just tried to rep someone more than once and it tells me I must spread around my reputation before I can rep them again.

If I'm not going to be getting what I paid for I want my money back. We SS were given 40 reps a day and unlimited repping. That's a feature I wanted and enjoyed. If that's being taken away I see no reason, for myself, to be a SS. Cause quite frankly with that taken away...what incentive is there to be a SS?

I'm praying this will be fixed and we'll have what we had before the upgrade. Right now I'm angry and sad at the same time. :( Also, please know this has nothing to do with all the hard work that was done with this upgrade. I think all who were involved did an outstanding job and I'm extremely thankful to have the board back.

However, I think as a SS ...and a member, I should be able to point out something that I feel needs to be corrected ASAP as you're going to have a LOT of unhappy folks here.

again blessings can be exchanged...and given away...again the system isn't complete...please be patient...

Gwen ..with all due respect, I DID read the thread last night before I went to bed. NOBODY could say what SS had or would continue to have. All that was said was it was being worked on. I'm just expressing my feelings on the subject as a SS. I paid for a full year and I paid for certain benefits. I feel I have a right as a SS to express that...or give my input, as to what I feel we should be getting.

I see this is a new thread so I'll go back over the thread and read some more and see what I missed. :) I think all who were involved in putting the board back together for this upgrade has done an awesome job. :hug: I'm extrememly grateful to have the board back.:prayer: My feelings on the SS issue has nothing to do with any of that.

the they had to redo somethign else, and it's doing it again...

Welcome to CF2.

There are a lot of changes, and it would be unlikely that everything could be covered in a single announcement.

The first thing you'll probably notice is we have a new style. The second being there is a new forum structure. This was done in an attempt at making things a bit easier to navigate. There are a lot of forums on CF, and it can be somewhat intimidating for new members.

Some of the forums are marked as "For Christians." These are forums specifically for Christian fellowship and discussion. Theology (with the exception of Unorthodox Theology), Edification, Ministry, and Teens are currently marked as "For Christians."

The Debate category has also been rearranged. Politics, Ethics/Morality, and Philosophy have been moved to the Society category; Creation vs. Evolution has been moved as a sub-forum of Physical & Life Sciences. General Apologetics and Non-Christian Religion have been moved to the Outreach category.

There will be a new moderation protocol, released shortly. Reports will be closed, but new features installed that allow members to keep track of the status of their reports, as well as mod actions taken against their posts and threads.

There are several new features, some of which are incompatible with old features. The Character items and Pets can be transferred over to the new engine, but everyone is going to have to reacquire their items. For the first month, all pets and characters will be free, so as to allow everyone to rebuild their items.

Chrisbot, unfortunately, was not compatible with the upgrade.

There are a lot of new features, too numerous to go into much depth about them all here. These are a few:

An updated chatbox engine;
"Thank You" notes;
New smilies (in addition to current smileys);
Updated home page profiles;
Extended reputation display;
Photo albums;
Image icons and reorganization of UserCP;
New ranking system (members with the most posts, the most activity, etc);
New pets and character items (in addition to current pets and character items);
Upgraded blogs;
An information portal and site-map (to help with site navigation);

I have a question though. When I go to my User CP - down the bottom of the left hand side, there is a thing that says "your reputation." When I click on it though, it says I am not authorized to access that page. Is this a feature that's being worked out? Is it a bug in the system? Or, is it an admin thing that I will never have access to? It doesn't matter either way, I'm just curious. I can see my reputation on either the "Last Reputation Given" or "Last Reputation Received" thing.

Well... I was drifting away from CF already... and I think this change finishes me off. Besides being harder to find anything, getting logged off every 5 minutes and all the fun stuff missing... this design is absolutely killing my eyes- it's triggering a migraine :(

It's unreasonable to have to log in over and over when you haven't closed a window at all. It's fine to be auto logged out when you leave the site - but after each post? Or just arbitrarily while you're reading posts? That was my experience yesterday.

For me, the gray is better because the contrast between the black and white on other boards just drives me crazy. I'm hoping that if the color scheme is not changed that they will give us back the option to change the color of our backgrounds. I had mine set to red/pink before the upgrade to get rid of that contrast.

are you saying you had over 20,000 items? because the points with the living avatars are connected to your post count. Right now the armory is charging 0 pts or 1 pt for each item. That means you can get over 20,000 items. i had LOTS of armor and even i had only around 600 items, not even close to 1,000 let alone 20,000 items. i doubt there is even 20,000 items IN the armory:P

If the colours are giving you headaches and this is the main site you visit, then you can disable the CF colour schemes...

Firefox :
1) Tools > Options
2) Click for the Content tab
3) Click "Colours"
4) Deselect the "Allow pages to choose their own colours" option.



IE :

1) Tools > Internet Options
2) Click "Accessibility" (near the bottom right of the Options window / general page)
3) Select "Ignore colours specified on webpages" - and you can also ignore font sizes etc.




Change things back by doing the reverse! Do at your own risk ;) No support given!!!

are you saying you had over 20,000 items? because the points with the living avatars are connected to your post count. Right now the armory is charging 0 pts or 1 pt for each item. That means you can get over 20,000 items. i had LOTS of armor and even i had only around 600 items, not even close to 1,000 let alone 20,000 items. i doubt there is even 20,000 items IN the armory:P

CF came back on with a bare-bones structure. It is all being added back in over the next few days. You know, with a major upgrade like this, people could be just a bit more patient. With the last major upgrade two years ago, CF was down for 2 weeks instead of two days, and there were still some major bugs to fix and features to add. Or has everyone forgotten that?

I had almost 2000 items before and i just regot a large portion of them - but now i cannot play with the character because all those items are all loose on one page (they dont go into folders for us so the page even on high speed takes forever to load) as soon as i try to start building the character the page freezes completely and then 5 minutes later a warning asks me if i want to stop running scripts on the page so my computer will stay stable - its no good for me :(

i have a major concern with the bank...it is NOT comparable to the old bank.

the old bank gave 1% interest per week
the new bank only gives 3.5% interest per month

there are numerous people with a million or more blessings in the bank.

at 1% interest per week interest on one million is 40,000 blessings every 4 weeks
at 3.5% interest per month interest on one million is only 35,000 blessings every month
that is a loss of 5,000 blessings per month on a million, and 10,000 blessings per month on two million etc etc

to top it off, if you take out any money before the month is up you get CHARGED 5% interest.
And to make it even worse there is ALSO 2% interest CHARGE every time you take blessings out of the bank!

in order to make this bank comparable i suggest uppping the monthly interest to 6%

also..i hope we dont lose our jobs or its another 4,000 a month i will LOSE

Yes, this will be a problem with so many items... :( Unless CF staff make a modification to the code, this isn't built in to Living Avatar, but is a request from users on their site.

Some observations having read through some of the announcments....


1. There seems to be MUCH emphasis being given to toys, features, freebees, characters, pets, etc. All things that (just speaking to ME alone) I could care less about. It seems to be what all this re-do was about.

2. I sure miss the CF I joined maybe 3 years ago, when there were clear discussions of meaningful issues - in an open forums, where posters could be clear and share convictions. The key word was RESPECT (the issue staff worked to maintain) but each was encourage to express their views - and to learn. Which I did! It didn't seem to be a "problem." I soon was asked to be on staff in General Theology, my application was approved 28-0, and after 3 months, moved up the newly created staff position of Supervisor. But PC'ism, WAR, and protectionism became the rule of the day, changing the nature of things. Then lots of kumbiyaism that made CF pretty moot. It seems to ME that's now being institutionalized. I hope I'm wrong, I sincerely do.

3. I hope the faith designations returns. I have put that in my signature line (waiting to see if I get a violation for that). It's going to be hard to have denomination forums if we have no idea who is what, and it's a LOT harder to have interdenominational discussions if we don't know if we're talking to a Catholic or Mormon or what. When a Catholic says "Church" they mean something very different than when a Baptist does - and that's true for MANY, MANY things. Not knowing who this poster is or where he's coming from hinders the discussion. I HOPE not on purpose.

Go to your User CP (Top Nav Bar on the Left) select "EDIT AVATAR" --> http://christianforums.com/profile.php?do=editavatar
This will allow the cration of your LA

Be warned it will not display yet, but it's supposed to come up today.
Also when you save it, your current avatar will be turned off (but the new one isn't on yet :D )

I hadn't even looked into this yet - but .. I don't mind the interest lowering & being changed. It doesn't have to be identical to the old system.
But I DO mind being charged that 2% anytime I take anything out since most all of my blessings are in the bank right now (I think I have like 62,000ish?) - the ratio of earning to being charged for taking blessings out is problematic for sure.
I get taxed to death in real life, do I need it on a FUN, Christian hangout? lol (I come here to get away from real-life problems) :sorry::doh:

I also agree that losing the interest if we pull any $ out a month in advance is just way too long - weekly is much more reasonable.
I guess we can expect to see blessing gifts decrease significantly with all this happening; I'm sure not pulling out any blessings to bless others with when I get penalized so heavily.
(if I understand this right)... and I also haven't seen any jobs for income, still looking.

Love the layout, just still going thru things.

With the crop too, you hold down shift I think and drag at one of the corners to resize it. If it isn't Shift, it's CTRL.

Yes, I was Iis - when you login, you need to click "remember me", otherwise it'll continue.

The character stuff is now all included in the avatar section. You cannot have both an avatar and a dollie. If you go to Edit Avatar you will see a section called Living Avatars. That is where the CF character stuff is now. You can go there and get back all the stuff you lost now, but there is a problem with the display, which they are working on. But for now, you can go get back all the stuff you had before for 0-1 blessing each.

I have all mine in the bank - it'll cost me interest to take it out now - I think with the heavy taxing on using them, less and less blessings will get gifted out when it's penalizing us to use them.

its not fun for characters for those of us who had tons of items - we werent warned when we reget those mass items the whole thing freezes up now and we cannot even make a doll - all the armory items are on the same page with the character maker so it gives script errors because of all the grapgics on one page - i cant use it all now and ive only repurchased 3/4ths of the items i had but that amounts to over a 1000 and now the thing wont work :(
