The CF Upgrade - ARMORY REDESIGN!!!!

We're scheduled to upgrade CF to the new version of vbulletin on Monday, May 5. This upgrade is going to include a redesign of the CF Characters as well. Here's a list of some things we'll gain:

1. NO LIMIT on equipped items. Equip as many as you like from any category you like.

2. Splitting some of the larger categories into smaller groupings. No more scrolling through 600 dresses to find the one you want.

3. You decide how to layer things. That's right - you can have a background AND wings behind your character now.

4. Equipping items will be a drag-and-drop process

5. MOAR STUFF - as well as all of our beloved CF Characters, we will gain access to some additional bodies and stuff to go with them.

Some things we're not sure about:

- To start with, there won't be limitations on guy stuff/girl stuff based on our gender icons. That may be added later, but since this is a new system written by someone else, we're not sure what will be possible yet.

- We are probably going to have to start over from scratch with our characters and their wardrobes. Most items will be FREE for the first month after the upgrade. I will be tracking the one-of-a-kind type items so that we know who should be able to re-purchase stuff like the Holy Grail and the Ten Commandments and other big-ticket armory items. I'll contact these people with more details when things are finalized.

I'm very busy working on the category splits right now, but I'll keep an eye on this thread and try to find out the answers to your questions if I don't know the answers already.

ETA: Just to clarify, we are going to MOVE the CF character and armory items to Live Avatars. The CF characters are cool, awesome, and better than just about any other dolly type stuff in my humble opinion. They will be around after the upgrade in all their radiant beauty, just like today.

Also, be aware that there will be some massive reorganization as part of this conversion. We're splitting up the large categories and reshuffling some of the smaller ones to give us some room to grow. You may have to check a few categories to find the item you are looking for after the upgrade. Please be patient, and ask questions if you can't find what you're looking after May 5.

All items will eventually be zero blessings so you can restock them, with the exception of the high ticket items. Please contact either ProfessorMom or ravenscape as I believe they are the ones with "the list" on who had those items. You WILL get them back.

The original backgrounds will have to be redone. They do not fill the new space format. Go ahead and grab what you need, and when they are redone, your files will be updated automatically. PLEASE GIVE US SEVERAL WEEKS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS! Thanks.

Many items have been moved to where it makes a little more sense and are (hopefully) easier for you to find. Raven knows where everything is, and I'm sure I'll figure it out quickly. If you are having trouble finding something and have looked in all the obvious places, let me know and I'll see if I can track it down for you.

To create your character, go to the User CP and click on "Edit Avatar." From there, click on the "Edit or change your Living Avatar" link, right under the big "Living Avatar" logo. There you can purchace items (click on the link) and purchase either CF Character stuff or other, new and fun things.

You may have either a Living Avatar ("Dollie/CFC") or a regular avatar, but not both. You are no longer limited in the number of items you can equip. That's right, go crazy!

Looking at the LA site, it looks like you can have multiple body types, so some may go with the Anami Type bodies, others may stick with the CF bodies. While others will stick with their Avatar.

Living Avatars is the program that is being used. Yes, there will be a couple of their default packs in there as an option. You don't have to use them, though, because all our existing character images, items, etc, will be part of Living Avatars. Living Avatars is very flexible and expandable. You aren't limited to their chibi base images. ;)

Well, this is certainly interesting. While I think it will be great, with the new bodies and all, I pray we do get a chance to repurchase what we have. The only things I truly care about wanting to repurchase is my lion, warrior suit, and also my Word of God sword. Cost me a million blessings I think, or maybe it was 750,000. anyway, i don't want to lose that.

Yep... I don't know why either...

The pets (http://dev.p3tz.com/index.php?page=home i believe) is slightly different though I think in that at the moment every (however long), a CRON job updates the pet stats so creating new images at that time is obviously a lot more processor intensive than a simple SQL UPDATE (multiple times a day).

Still, with only 768 active pets, it wouldn't have taken toooo long! It's just the body and face (2 images), with the table background colour, so don't have quite a loading performance issue as the characters... :)

Well it would only be fair that if we lose all the items we purchased at full price, we should be refunded the full price of what we had to spend on the items since it isn't our fault that we are losing them. Otherwise, there is no way I can afford to repurchase all my items with just the price quoted for returns. It is a mere fraction of the original purchase price.

lol, yeah, now that you put it that way..4 A's are quite an accomplishment. I don't think I told you but one of the classes was a jr/sr level class, with essay tests. Lol, I'd never heard of that! I can't believe I got an A in there. Blew me away. The only reason I got a B in Bible is because he won't cut anyone a break on absences. He's a real stickler. Evidently the freeze on mine did not get in quick enough and he woudl not go back and adjust..next year will be even tougher, at least the fall semester will be. The spring is mine baby!!!! lol. I'm taking what I want then.

Just how is is they're going to know how many buying points to give to each person so they can re-accumulate their closet? (Which is going to take a lot of time, by the way:( ) Not dish out a uniform number, I hope?

All our purchased armor info is in the database. It's just a case of either calculating the blessings and sending them to us, or porting the info over to living avatar.

Ivy, if this messes up, believe me, I'll lose a lot more than you. My character is a clothes horse and I've been collecting stuff since the day the characters were rolled out. Before then, actually - I helped test that things were working before the characters went live.

I'm doing everything I can to help the tech people do a smooth move to living avatar.

One thing that would be a good idea is to copy any images you have in your profile that you'd like to use again over to photobucket or to your hard drive. Our profiles are going to really different - and very cool.

The reason I liked this site was becuase the characters looks so pretty. and the clothes. If we lose all this the only other characters I've seen look like little kids and silly looking then of course there are the ones that are just plain ugly. I've seen about 6 different types. and most have clothes that are ...uh lol.. well not much too them :blush:

Sounds like I'd rather have an avatar instead.


And by the way, at any upgrade it's possible anything can be lost so same the most important things to you. Some here have found that out the hard way

Hey everybody..I'm sure everyone is upset about some of the changes here, with the characters and all, but before replying, read through the entire dialogue please. ;)
I did not read thoroughly and just almost had a meltdown, lol, ^_^ , but after I read through some things, Raven clearly said we would be able to keep our CF characters and have a choice of what we wanted to do. I agree, the LA are just too "little kiddish" for me, but for the younger members of CF they are great. When I first joined CF I thought these characters were the bomb, but (showing my age lol) I became frustrated with the limitations of some of the things, and complained right along with all of the rest of ya. Now, we're getting those things fixed, it will take time to make it work though. No rollout goes smoothly no matter how well planned. :) :D ;)
So, take a day or two to relax and do some other things, put pets in daycare, and be excited and look forward to the new features CF2 will offer..:)
I don't think anyone has said we would not be able to bless others. I voiced that question, but I think Gregged and Raven addressed it, and it appears a bit of tweaking should make that work, and it has not been stated it won't be available. I agree, how can we have a forum called "Blessings Exchange" without being able to bless others with blessings and with anonymous items?

The reason I liked this site was becuase the characters looks so pretty. and the clothes. If we lose all this the only other characters I've seen look like little kids and silly looking then of course there are the ones that are just plain ugly. I've seen about 6 different types. and most have clothes that are ...uh lol.. well not much too them :blush:


Since these won't exist then we start over getting clothes and other stuff?

Sounds like I'd rather have an avatar instead.


And by the way, at any upgrade it's possible anything can be lost so same the most important things to you. Some here have found that out the hard way

Yeah... A lot of work's gone into the designs here...

More categories sounds great.... but from what I've seen, once you've bought the things, they aren't in any categories - they just appear in a big long list on the character design page - which isn't so great.

As someone whom uses living avatars currently on two projects

i can confirm it would be simple (though time consuming in regards to the ammount of files) to add our items to the living avatars system

though i found that some alpha channel encoding doesn't work right with them gimp.2.2 has alot of struggle

:wave: Well, firstly it looks like at the beginning there will be no way to bless others with items of armour.

However, I think there's a lot of demand for this and they'll have to code it quickly! If they're going to do it, it's not much more work to be able to select multiple items and send them all in one go, so maybe you need to put a request in somewhere :scratch:

With your next point, it's not sure yet whether we'll have to buy things back yet - or whether they will get transferred in the upgrade.

The changeover itself won't address the issue, but it's one of the items on my list to ask the tech folks to address after the change. I'm not sure how soon such a change would be available. There are a LOT of requests for better functionality out there on the various lists.

Not bothered about my personal stuff, it's all pretty basic and won't cost much to replace. My concern though is for the two big character items that the Anglican 1611 fund has worked for years to raise funds for. namely the 1611KJV Bible, and a set of the Commandments.

Together these cost 7.5million blessings. Can we be assured that they will either remian intact with the character after changeover, or that the purchase price will be refunded in FULL. If it were a return only refund, we would lose 5 million blessings as a result, and several years hard work would vanish overnight.

I am greatly concerned about this prospect, and would like to be able to reassure the folks in STR that all their hard work is not gonna be wiped out.

Living Avatars is the program that is being used. Yes, there will be a couple of their default packs in there as an option. You don't have to use them, though, because all our existing character images, items, etc, will be part of Living Avatars. Living Avatars is very flexible and expandable. You aren't limited to their chibi base images. ;)

Don't count. Save the html page to your computer so you can refer to it later. Then you can easily compare. This has been suggested a number of times already.

ETA: Just to clarify, we are going to MOVE the CF character and armory items to Live Avatars. The CF characters are cool, awesome, and better than just about any other dolly type stuff in my humble opinion. They will be around after the upgrade in all their radiant beauty, just like today.

Also, be aware that there will be some massive reorganization as part of this conversion. We're splitting up the large categories and reshuffling some of the smaller ones to give us some room to grow. You may have to check a few categories to find the item you are looking for after the upgrade. Please be patient, and ask questions if you can't find what you're looking after May 5.

We're hoping that each person's inventory can be ported over to Living Avatar, but that's still up in the air. So at this point we can say that either you won't have to re-purchase, or you will have to (but you'll be reimbursed fully for everything you have purchased at the time of the upgrade).

Most stuff will be available, though there might be some small changes. Bank and blessings will stay. I'm not sure of the status of jobs - I've been up to my eyeballs working through the armory issues. There's a thread (http://christianforums.com/t7215585-cf-upgrade-05-may-2008-q-a.html) in the announcements forum that is for questions about other aspects of the upgrade. You might get a real answer to the question of jobs there.

Wanted to also ask - will we get separate folders for our items too? They are spread out all over the place and now the page is 50 miles long since i regot many of my items from before and it freezes when i try to load a character because the item list is huge

Angel4 - Moriah found the golden wings, they bes in the "special items - wings" folder. Unless it mistakes what you mean.

hi moriah i am talking about the background that was blue with puffy looking gold wings and if im not mistaken it orginally cost 25,000 - it was in the background category - not transport like the other wings - this was a full background and was one of the first CF special items ever

Yea some of the background are missing.
Also a lot of the CF images were designed with the original CF system in place so they have lots of extra background space that isn't needed / gets in the way with the new positioning system (hope they re-edit the graphics ;) hint hint )

All items will eventually be zero blessings so you can restock them, with the exception of the high ticket items. Please contact either ProfessorMom or ravenscape as I believe they are the ones with "the list" on who had those items. You WILL get them back.

The original backgrounds will have to be redone. They do not fill the new space format. Go ahead and grab what you need, and when they are redone, your files will be updated automatically. PLEASE GIVE US SEVERAL WEEKS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS! Thanks. :)

I know that the equipped characters are not showing up right now. I'm guessing because raven has not fully set it to "go" mode yet.

So it bears repeating... The Living Avatars is NOT fully functional yet, and we are aware of this. Hang in there. It'll be up and running as soon as humanly possible.

As far as the missing files, let me see if I can log into the admin portion of the Living Avatars and see what's what. I seem to recall raven saying she was having trouble uploading some of the files, but they WILL all eventually be restored.

Please contact either ProfessorMom (preferable) or ravenscape to gain your high ticket item again. It MAY not be uploaded yet, in which case, give us some time.

Nevermind. Apparently we get 10 blessings per post (cool) and that translates to points to be able to get items.

Hi liberty i am not talking about them not showing up - i cannot even play with mine in there - because of the mass items loading all on one page the entire area freezes. I can use it at all.
I will bring this up to nexalis (head techie guy) and see if there is a way to remedy this.

I can't buy a body or other character items because I don't have blessings or "points". What are "points" anyway? And when will I get my blessings so I can get my character back?
Everything should be ZERO blessings now. If you see something that is not, please let me know and I'll go fix it.

It will take some getting used to. You can also use the "nudge" tool. Change the number from 5 pixels to 1 pixel, then nudge that puppy in whichever direction you need to. I haven't been in on this side yet to see how tiny it is, but I'm fairly certain that will change when nex. gets a chance to get to it.

The CFCs are actually 'normal' size when you are editing them.... it is after you save it that it shrinks!

Ahh, I think you might want to check again. I just finished setting those items to zero about 15 minutes ago....

liberty i spent my 1000 more than a hour ago - it took me several hours to get 3/4ths of the stuff i had back - the rest is missing still but now that we can only have an avatar or doll i wish i could just sell everythin and if i knew that before this change i would have sold it all back.

Just go back in to edit your avatar again, and do nothing more than click the Save button... It should then appear :)

Go in and buy stuff and then edit the avatar.... put it all together... then click save... but make sure you crop it so it won't be extremely tiny

Thank you Gregged, now for the second problem. I tried to center everything and ended up with eyes floating out from the face and hair off centered. I could not get any of the clothing to match up with the body.

^_^ I think I figured it out. When you're in the editing window, click on the cropping square that's on top of your character, then press remove item, then save. It worked for me.
