Question: When will the upgrade take place? How long will it be down for?
Answer: Estimated downtime is from Sunday evening to Monday evening, this is all estimated, things can go wrong!

Question: Will my blessings or reputations be lost?
Answer: No

Question: Will reps still be private?
Answer: Yes

Question: Will I lose all my PMs?
Answer: Very well possible. I'd suggest downloading all the ones that are important to you.

Question: What will profiles look like?

Question: Will we lose our pets?
Answer: The pet system is not nailed down yet, when we have information we will release it. Please put your pet in daycare if you are worried about them not being fed.

What took place??
As a pet worker we were wondering if the site will be shutt down in the near future for more upgrades?? Could you give us a clue when this might be and for how long?? Sorry if this isn't the kind of questions you wanted but this is important to us.

The tech guys are telling me, it should be a one time deal when we changeover. Of course, there are always unknowns and other bug fixes, but generally those are the types of things that can occur in the background. This upgrade otoh, is a complete rewrite of pretty much everything top to bottom.

12 hours is the time frame I was given.... but thats mostly technical. Then we have set up and configuration issues. I really think we will be back alive come Monday evening... but am confident stating Tuesday.

We do have CF2 running right now on another server, and its stable. The tech guys also have made a few dry runs of the migration, and that too seems to work out pretty well.

Because it will only confuse people for about a week and then they'll go with the flow. Or so some think.

It will be even more confusing since there is a feature known as "reputation" that will not be reputation as we know it, but some other karmic kudos feature.

But the sheep will follow their leader. It's all good.

Right now the Rep System isn't nailed down. When it is more information will be told.

Threads are forthcoming, in the meantime most of staff and some of the Angels have been briefed on teh changes and can help you ...
thanks for starting this thread...my question is, how is this going to affect our CF homepages?save any background images and custom images to another site or your hard drive, you will need to upload them to the new CF profile album in order to use them....instructions to come later...I can do it...but typing it out clearly is another matter LOL :D

What is going to happen with the jobs? Are we going to be able to collect the salary at the usual time? Or are we going to have to restart and wait a whole week to be able to collect? Will we have to join the job again, or will we still have it after the upgrade is done?


I don't know about everyone else, but I am going to write down everything I have for my CF character so that when everything is done I'll know what I had and what I didn't have.

Go to each page, then save the page in a directory for your archival.
You'll wan to save your Main Page, Bank, Job, Pets, And each Page of the CF Characters.

if what my company just experienced is typical - then some things won't be as bad as anticipated, others may be more difficult.

I'll have to go figure out what was decided exactly - I think the plan is to make the profile picture the new avatar. Each of us will have a photo album attached to our profiles, so a profile picture is redundant.

purchasing extra food will not help if we do not have access to them to feed, the better way to prepare would be to put them into day care for a day that way thier stats will not change (they will not get hungry - they are put on suspended stats in day care anyway)

can't speak for other members - but I know that I have ~250 pm's here (most are staff related). To be honest - I'd rather not have to copy all those onto my hard drive or into a word program - is there truly a risk of losing these?

I think there is always a 50/50 chance to lose things ..so better be safe than sorry. ;) I think if you download as text, it will copy into a word document..I tried it before and it worked.

All that will be saved. :) PM's must be downloaded, not sure if you will lose them.

The only think you'll have to save, is if you have a special html set up on your profile--- that will NOT be in the update. Otherwise you don't have to save anything. :)

going on some heavy drugs while designing the user interface, trying to build a new product on code older than mankind itself, increasing hardware requirements to 'ludicrous' and making instability and incompatibility the new standard?

Will our guestbooks be affected/changed in any way?

The guestbooks will change to a new system ... not sure of the details, but I believe that you will be able to reply to posts there..
Your old guestbook will be imported, so you won't lose anything.

There will be a new blog system, but again, your current blog will be merged so you don't lose anthing.:)

I think that you will be able to upload this, but save it before the site goes down on Sunday, as I don't think it will be automatically transferred.

I don't think so.
But... they last for 24 hours, so you can use them at any time...

The tech guys are telling me, it should be a one time deal when we changeover. Of course, there are always unknowns and other bug fixes, but generally those are the types of things that can occur in the background. This upgrade otoh, is a complete rewrite of pretty much everything top to bottom.

Easer Solution.
Go to each page, then save the page in a directory for your archival.
You'll wan to save your Main Page, Bank, Job, Pets, And each Page of the CF Characters.
You may also want to export your PMs (Save as XML (http://christianforums.com/private.php?do=downloadpm&dowhat=xml),CSV (http://christianforums.com/private.php?do=downloadpm&dowhat=csv)or Text (http://christianforums.com/private.php?do=downloadpm&dowhat=txt))

You can view all your subscribed threads at http://christianforums.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription&folderid=all & save that page if you wish.

Sounds simple enough, but how do I do all of that? (Yes I do know a few things about computers, but not everything.) So can you explain how to do that.
I'm not too worried about the thread subscriptions. Don't usually subscribe to any. I know which ones I go to all the time so I'm not worried about that.

Just a suggestion from someone who's been here when they made upgrades before or survived through a huge crash. Take a picture (screen print) of what blessings you have and what you have in the bank and save it to your hard drive. They normally will repay any blessings that are lost.

I remember a few accounts which were corrupted in previous upgrades, so those folk had to create a new account. I remember some folk were able to have stuff from their old account transferred to the new account which they made.

Is there much likelihood of folks' accounts becoming corrupted during this upgrade process, and if so, will blessings, rep, armor and post counts be able to be transferred over to a new account?

That's happening to me right now. With all the glitches and technical problems, I was unable to access my other account here, so after awhile, I created this one. I've been in contact with one of the webmasters. I was told that all of my reputation, site support status and post count could be transferred to this account after the upgrade was done.

We are busy saving the list(tons) to Word, and will on the last night go around and feed everyones pets full. Should we be even doing this??? Is cf starting over with new pets??? (yes saw the site)Should we be even trying to save the list, cause will people be re-making new pets?? Can anyone give us a clue, please!!

simply put...the current site is not stable. CF is basically one giant vbulletin hack at the moment and the code is interacting in bizarre ways. There are other reasons, of course, but this is a major one.

I believe that 1) backups of data exist and 2) the new site is running in a development environment already so the techs are chewing through some of the issues.

I really don't know. Staff will be able to but I'm not sure which features are available to general membership. I've seen a similar deployment but I have staff access so I don't know what a normal page looks like. I'll ask.

Probably not. Dunno about the blogs as I've 1) never used one here 2) never moderated one and 3) don't have a plan to start blogging. As for thread titles...that is a function of the staff toolset.

There is something similar but it works completely different. I'd suggest saving your links offline. I'm not sure how the import works (not a techy type...)

The pets will use a completely different engine so unsure...probably need to contact someone with more knowledge. I'd venture to guess that 90% of all stuff will be imported successfully. For some of the other stuff it may have to be recreated...which I guess is the price one pays for substantially increased functionality. Then again 100% may import correct...dunno. Then again, I don't have a doll, pet, big profile page etc so it's a bit beyond my scope...

At the moment I'm not sure whether anyone's armour will be transferred to the updated site! I think they're looking into it, but if they can't work it out in time, then they're just going to give everyone the blessings value of their armour items and we'll have to buy them all again after the upgrade.

All my page needs your armour to be enabled on your CF page for, is so it can read what armour you have - so you have a copy, just in case anything goes wrong. If you don't show your armour, my system can't read it - but it's all on CF anyway. I'm sure there won't be any problems! :sorry: It's just an "in case" list ;)

Yeah, that's why I set up an "All Armory All the Time" thread in the CF Characters forum yesterday.

THE CF CHARACTERS WILL STILL BE HERE AFTER THE UPGRADE!!!

IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, EACH OF OUR ARMOR COLLECTIONS WILL BE MIGRATED TO LIVING AVATAR.

IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE, WE WILL BE REIMBURSED FOR ALL THE ARMOR WE CURRENTLY OWN, AND WE CAN BUY IT BACK USING LIVING AVATAR AFTER THE UPGRADE.

WE'RE DOING SOME SPECIAL CHECKING TO BE SURE WE KNOW WHO OWNS ALL THE LIMITED EDITION ITEMS, SO WE CAN BE SURE THESE GO BACK TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

Just a suggestion from someone who's been here when they made upgrades before or survived through a huge crash. Take a picture (screen print) of what blessings you have and what you have in the bank and save it to your hard drive. They normally will repay any blessings that are lost.

No, you shouldn't lose anything. It will probably be moved as is... if this proves impossible, you will be given sufficient blessings to re-purchase the items you had.

2) If they can transfer your data from the old one to the new one, all your items will be transfered.
3) If they can't, you will be given a FULL refund for the items you bought & will have to re-buy the items with the new system.
4) They are taking into considerations people who bought special items (Seasonal also I hope) like the 10 Commandments ect.
5) To keep track of what you have, you will want to save the page that has your listing of all your armor items.
To do that go to these links & save the pages to your local hard drive.

Im confused they are saying the characters will be different too and confused on the html - some say well have it others say we wont have that section anymore and mine is heavily customized and took hours and hours to code
