Lord, thank you for another day of prayer. There are so many things to pray about. I have friends who are very ill. people can't make their money reach. There are many troubles and hardships in this world, and it is sad to see others suffer. But the saddest of all is that there are those who need you the most don't call on you first.
Lord enable us to live a Holy life that will attract those in need of your grace.

Amen tpony!
Last year I remember hearing events and things about National Day of Prayer, but this year it just means so much more to me. I guess growth does that.
I'm very excited this year. :) And I hope it's habit forming.

Have heard some things about the origin of this institution that made it feel uncomfortable about it. :(

Have heard some things about the origin of this institution that made it feel uncomfortable about it. :(Considering that the chairperson is Shirley Dobson, you are right to be concerned. Personally, I'll have nothing to do with it.
I don't need the Family Research Council, Dobson, or any politician to tell me when and how to pray.
And I apologize to cristianna for having to say this, but I strongly disagree with the political agena of the people who organize this event.

Thank you, yes. Concur, and as well, not trying to be a naysayer here or wee on anyone's cornflakes.

I can understand concerns. But I do think it's approach and idea is of value. It's very similar to the Five Finger Prayer strategy I use- I've actually quite appreciated how it's opened my mind to incorporate more roles, titles and areas.
Will I carve any of it into stone and call it law? Absolutely not.

I feel a little like this....anytime the "world" opens a door for people to "think" about religion, I will grab the oppertunity to speak of God's grace. ANytime there is an oppertunity for me to pray for someones salvation, I will do it. weather it be Christmas, Easter, the world's day of prayer, even halloween, and Thanksgiving. If we don't speak up when the door is open someone else will tell them untruths...sincerely Pony

If you go to their website, and read the views of some of their organizers, I think people will conclude that Christianity is a far-right political movement. I don't see that as opening a door to Christ. If anything, I see it as an attempt to close the door to people.
You don't need an event to have an opportunity to pray for people, our nation and our world. What's wrong with May 3rd at 11:49 PM? Why does the President of the United States have to tell us to pray? Couldn't we just listen well enough to David? Jesus? Paul?
And if you DO need a special event for a time of prayer, the liturgical calendar provides plenty of them. Pentecost is just a week away--to me, that seems like a PERFECT opportunity to pray for the salvation of friends and loved ones.
I'm so sorry to go on like this. You guys are able to put this in the right perspective and actually focus on the prayer, but when I look at it, all I see is a right-wing political movement. Please forgive me. :)

Spec, you are totally right. We do not need anyone mandating or time stamping prayers, and if we are to follow any course of prayer particulars we should be following examples from within the scripture.
And you're also right about where my focus lies- within the prayer itself.
No need for forgiveness from me. I actually am interested in what you and others have to say about things because you bring a different perspective than I do.
