We've got a new motto which is pretty cool, "Where Two or Three are Gathered."

However they've decided to scrap the Nicene Creed as the CF statement of faith. Very very bad idea if you ask me. I think it's theologically suspect to say the least.

What is the rationale behind the change?

What is the rationale behind the change?
The new creed relieves Protestants from being required to confess belief in (1) one, holy, catholic and apostolic church and (2) one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. It also does not require a belief in the resurrection of the dead.

Peace be with you.

So let me see.... the Catholic and Orthodox-minded folk are offended at the dropping of 'One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church', the MJs will be unhappy at the use of 'Old Testament', the Baptists will be unhappy that there is no mention of Baptism, the Pentecostals and Charismatics with little to no mention of the Holy Spirit (and that irritates me too) and most of the Evangelical wing of the church of all branches will be unhappy that there is no mention of the Bible.

In what way is this new 'Statement of Faith' a good idea?

The total lack of mention of the role and work of the Father and the Spirit is incredibly concerning.

I fully agree that this is a very bad idea, for all of the reasons mentioned.

As with most Creeds, the important thing is what they do not say. Everything that this new statement says could be true, but the issue is really what it is not saying that is the worry IMO.

Actually, the Baptists may be pleased with the change. I suppose most Baptists oppose "one baptism for the forgiveness of sins," because it supports the doctrine of baptismal regeneration.

I wrote my views in the linked thread.

I think it is good.

I honestly don't see that it makes any difference since there is really no standard enforced as to who can post on this forum anyway.

Try the general apologetics forum sometime. Its only purpose seems to be a place for athiests to congregate and ridicule Christians and Christianity in general.

It won't make any difference. Political correctness wins out over orthodoxy, this really shouldn't surprise anyone who has been here longer than a year.

i doubt that this change will effect my day to day presence in STR.

True. Same here.

True. Same here.
You're both right. I was away from CF for nine months, and have recently become active again. I find the only way to do so is to select the forums that interest me, and to ignore the drama, and outright hostility, elsewhere.

The thing that really WILL affect our day-to-day presence on CF is when the upgrade comes into effect on Tuesday. The site will appear very different, and will take a while to get used to!

How so? What's going to change?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the way the site looks will be different - and though we will still have the same CF characters, there will also be a larger range of characters to choose from. Some of them are the 'anime' style character (which I don't fancy, so I'm glad we can keep our normal CF characters). We will lose all of our stuff related to our characters during the changeover, and be fully re-imbursed for them, and then we will have to start over fresh in the new version. We will only be able to display either our character or our avatar, but we can decide which we want to display at any time - just not both at the same time.

The site should be less 'buggy' - hopefully! I think that is the main reason for the upgrade, in fact. But there will be the inevitable initial sorting out of some bugs, I'm sure.

We won't lose any of our blessings or reputation, although apparently the reputation may have to be called something else due to a word conflict or something like that.

I'm not that sure of exactly how things will be different, because I didn't take part in the testing out of a trial run (only a few mods did that). But there is a site that gives us a bit of a clue: http://www.vbulletin.com/features.php

Cheers Karen. It's a shame i have to lose my character if i want to keep me avatar. Stability though is so important and if the site works a bit better then that can only be a good thing.

I can. I'm new here and after looking around at some of the sections on this site some of them ought to be renamed as well.

If I were in charge I would rename thus:

Theology will now be called the No Truth Forum
Soteriology will now be called Everybody's Saved 'cept You forum
Debate will now be called Cage 'n Foo Fighting

But I hope the excerise will be good for them...maybe once some of them see the arguments that are inevitable in writing their own "creed" maybe they will begin to work their way toward us "traditional sticklers"....:prayer:
