When do you get baptized in your church? We do it when we are born.
Do baptists have god parents?

Baptist in my experience baptist people soon after conversion. It is then a public sign of that conversion to the rest of the church.
We have a couple who will take care of our daughter if something were to happen to my wife and I. If that is what you mean by god parents, then yes.

We pick Godparents for our children at baptism. They are people to help make sure they kids are raised Christian and keep my husband and I accountable.
That's what I mean :) Do you have something like that?

In the Baptist church there isn't anyone who is picked like that. What many Baptist churchs do is do dedications. During a dedication the whole church is asked to do this. The whole church is asked to pray, watch out and teach the children. There is usually no forumal sign of the people who do this.
It comes back to being a church family. It isn't just one persons responisblity, it is the whole families.

Hey Mary Ann,
As OracleX said we have what is called dedications. This is when the mother and the father walk down the isle and stand before the church and make a committment that they will raise their child for the Lord. Then the whole church prays for them.
In Baptism, the bible states that you are to repent, then be baptized. Baptist teach what the bible says and that is that you must know you are a sinner, you must believe that Christ died was buried and rose again, and must repent your old ways and recieve Christ as your Saviour. After one is born again spirtually this way, then they will make a public committment that Christ is their Lord. Baptism is like a wedding ring. Its an outward sign of an inward committment.
