Just curious, doctrinal divisions aside...
Has anyone here, who is a Christian, ever laid hands on a fellow and tried to heal them or raise the dead or cast out demons? I know some people think the gifts stopped and others claim they keep going. I'm just talking about personal, (you), experience. I haven't tried, but I've been pondering this topic every time I see someone in a wheelchair. I know I believe, and I know what Jesus said...
anyway, have YOU ever TRIED to do any of those things in mark 16:17-18?
or, have you ever been bitten by a snake (not on purpose of course) and not had anything bad happen to you?
thanks, and God bless.
verse refrence:
Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

I don't have the power to heal, but I do pray for people through the power of Christ to heal them according to His will. As for raising the dead, in this day and age, they're better off where they are.

not if they are on their way to hell....
maybe God would want them raised so that they can get saved? a little hell on earth, but later and eternity in heaven, instead of everlasting damnation.....

I would think if that were the case there would be many more resurrections, as NOBODY would choose an eternity of hell after experiencing one second of it. We'd have the unsaved being raised left and right!

but what if God is leaving it to us to do in his name, as the bible implies?

Aren't we doing that already? Doctors, nurses, phologists, medication, and so on. We just have a weird way of sharing our health plans.........makes me think of Africa.......and the AIDS pandemy

yes, but only the dead can experience hell, and the dead can't raise themselves.... but we, if God was telling us to do so, could be obedient and pray for a dead person to raise, but would we? we're so chicken of looking like fools that we won't.
we're more worried about feeling or looking stupid than about that soul heading for eternity in hell....

I have nothing against Doctors, but where in the Bible was anyone healed by a Doctor? Where in the BIble Does God command us to goto Doctors (not saying we shouldn't). Also, Luke, a Doctor, does he tell us to? If you wish, im preparing to post every sickness and healing that is from Genesis to Rev. We are to pray for our healing today. Healing in the atonement is another discussion. God still performs his Word today. Testimony time!
I ripped a back muscle back in 10th grade football years ago. The muscle had dried blood that harden on it. The docs told me I would have to live with this forever. My great Heavenly Doctor said otherwise, 5 years later while working the night shift I asked God for healing. God responded, I have no muscle problems:)
3 Months ago I had a checkup. My blood pressure was 160/104. Very Very high. I came back again a week later and it was the same. Last week I had a checkup before I would be issued pills, what was the result? Complete healing after many months of prayer.
So, do not try to say God doesn't heal today or respond to prayers for healing. God heals as much as today as he used to. God responds to that faith that each Born Again is given. Or do you need to see my medical records for proof other then Gods Word?

I noticed, that when Jesus healed someone, he didn't "pray for their healing" persay, but he commanded the sickness out of them by his authority, and by their faith. And he was always motivated by compassion, not by curiosity or for pride. Jesus was quite humble and compassionate.
Anyone else ever have an experience where you personally tried to do any of these things?
ps- check out e-sword.net if you haven't. its great bible software.

Back in the early 70s, when I was a young Christian, my mom got very ill. I laid my hands on her and prayed for her healing. Not only did God heal her, but He brought some Christians into her and my dad's life who were their age, and through them, my parents were converted. Praise God.  She is now deceased and with her Lord and Master.  :pink:

 New lamb....Sweety!
I meant to say that my heart could use a repair or grow into a healthy heart, just by prayer...but it can't. It is bad and I just hope I grow old enough to enjoy all the things I am able to enjoy. 10 years ago I was able to live a fairly normal life. Now I can not even walk in nature for hours......I sometimes need a wheelchair, because I am so tired. It was given to me by birth, but I sometimes wish God gave me a healthy heart.....sounds stupid, and I have blamed God for many years. Now I know I don't have to blame Him, but thank Him that I reached the age of 40;)
God bless you,
Mimi

God has raised the dead, cured lepers, giving paraplegics the ability to walk etc. etc. Why can't he heal a heart? He made your heart. He knows it better than any doctor. It's better for you than any heart that might be transplanted, because it's designed perfectly for your body. And God can fix it. We have an awesome God. We shouldn't limit him.
Personally I haven't laid hands on anyone else, but I have prayed for my own healing and received it on quite a number of occasions. Both minor and major issues. Sometimes prayer doesn't work, but I have to admit most of those times my faith is lacking. I know God can heal me, but I don't always have the faith that he will heal me. I'm (or rather he's) working on improving that area thankfully.

also, is our new nature primarily a son of God or a son of man?

What really gets my goat is the implication from some (not all) who believe in faith healing that if a person has an illness that there is somehow something wrong with their faith. I have a chronic disorder and attended such a church as a teenager. It was said over and over again to me that if I have faith, I will be healed. The implication being that if I am not healed, then my faith is not strong enough. Some members of the congregation even implied that I was demon posessed.
I believe in praying for a person who is ill, but I also believe that God's will is done-- not ours. I don't believe in bossing God around-- telling him what is best. He knows more than we do. Problems that we face sometimes serve a purpose. I've posted these verses many times and I'll post them here again because I have found much comfort in them:
2nd Corinthians 12:7-10
[7] To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. [8] Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. [9] But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. [10] That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

I have never tried because I know that the gift of healing has ceased!
