Galatians 4:21-31 Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written: "Rejoice, O barren, you who do not bear! Break forth and shout, you who do not travail! for the desolate has many more children than she who has a husband.'' Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? "Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.'' So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.

Rev 22:14 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/popup.pl?book=Rev&chapter=22&verse=14&version=kjv#14)
Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
1Jo 2:3 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/popup.pl?book=1Jo&chapter=2&verse=3&version=kjv#3)ķAnd hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
Jhn 14:15 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/popup.pl?book=Jhn&chapter=14&verse=15&version=kjv#15)ķIf ye love me, keep my commandments.
Jhn 15:10 (http://cf.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Jhn&c=15&v=10&t=KJV#10)If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
1Cr 7:19 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/popup.pl?book=1Cr&chapter=7&verse=19&version=kjv#19)Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
and for clarity on that one the NKJV
(Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.)
1Jo 5:3 (http://cf.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=1Jo&c=5&v=3&t=KJV#3)For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
The above verses are pretty plain language. Can we say we know him if we do not keep His commandments? Do we have the right to the tree of life is we don't keep his commandments? Can we say we love him if we don't keep His commandments?
So we are explicitly told that obedience to the commandments is mandatory! We are not free to disobey.
If the ten commandments aren't His commandments, whose commandments are they?

I agree, I just don't know how this relates to the OP.

K4C was implying the keeping of the law is bondage.
However Paul in Galatians 4 likened not 'the keeping of the law', but 'the work of keeping of law for salvation' to the bondwoman and her son. Because Abraham took Hagar because of unbelief. Rather than believing in God's promise, Abraham tried to make it happen by his own work. Ishmael was the fruit of unbelief.
Galatians 4 in no ways abrogates the law, but rather demonstrates the difference between 'by faith' and 'by work'.

Do you think that maybe these two examples of the freewoman and the bondwoman are pictures of two different mindsets. In other words, how we relate to the law in our minds determinds if we are in bondage or not. We are told to cast out the bondwoman, in other words, that way of thinking.
What are your thoughts?
