We have always used a prayer book published by St. Vlad's, titled "A Manual of Eastern Orthodox Prayers". Its a small book with a purple cover. It is a very nice translation, and also includes a section with prayers that I have not found in other books. These include prayers for the dead, prayers at the departing of the soul, and a lot of others.
Over the last few weeks, my wife in particular was spending a lot of time at a hospice with her father, who reposed early this past week. She had taken our travel icon and her prayer book, and kept them in his room. She discovered that almost invariably when she walked into the room, she would find other family members or hospice staff reading the prayer book. It struck us that we would like to try to give some of those people a copy of the prayer book. Sad to say, it now seems to be out of print, and the only copies we found on the internet are used, selling for around $30.00.
The only other prayer book we have is the Jordanville book, and it does not have the special prayers that we use so often. So my question for everyone: are those prayers in whatever book you are using? If we can find it somewhere else, that would give us another option.
Thanks!
James
