The cock crows three times...

I have read that this expression has nothing to do with a rooster or chicken. It was used of a type of town crier who would make three announcments on the 14th of Nisan in the morning. What I found in another thread on another forum is that another posters stated that when he standing at Cahiapas' house in Jerusalem he brought this same subject with an Israel friend who was well schooled in biblical Hebrew- The poster thought that the word came from the Hebrew word "gever" - GBR - of which I found "cock" as one of the diffinitons in - Koehler-Baumgartner Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament (HALOT). The Israelian then said that was right and a town crier would stand on one corner of the Temple Mount and do such announements.

The "town crier" was called "cock" and the announcements "crows." I thought that was very interesting.

You didn't know that before? I'm not even sure I remember that it was he one who stood guard on the temple and would call out the watches of the night. Today, sadly this is somewhat replaced by the gentiles that are trampling underfoot the holy temple mount and 'alling 'worshipers' to pray to a pagan god'. :(

the Mishnah refers to 'cocks crowing' in Jerusalem in THREE places:
1. M. Sukk 5.4: "at cock crow they blew a blast..." to signal time for sanctuary;

2. M. Tamid 1.2 refers to the officer (over the lots) coming sometimes at 'cock crow'

3. M. Yoma 1.8: "every day they used to remove the ashes from off the Altar at cock-crow, or near to it, either before it or after it; but on the Day of Atonement at midnight, and on the Feast at the first watch. And before the cock-crow drew near the Temple Court was filled with Israelites"

Did not this also correspond to the times Daniel prayed towards Jerusalem... at the time of the sacrifices?

And I even heard something a long time ago about the three blasts on the shofar... ??? I was a small child...

Did not this also correspond to the times Daniel prayed towards Jerusalem... at the time of the sacrifices?I don't think so john, as the time frame with which we are dealing (concerning Kefa denying Yeshua) was during the night - Daniel's prayers were "three times a day" and corresponded to the three courses of daily sacrifice at the Temple - which he and the entire nation were prevented from doing, of course, during their exile :)
