View Full Version : Quest for the Holy Grail

Hello everyone!
Our Roman Catholic brethren are talking bout pooling their blessings to acquire the Holy Grail from the Special Items sections in the Armor and then giving it to one of their knights for keeping.
Well, I say we could do the same. ;) What to you think?
Do we have any Knights here at TAW?
PS: I just hope our neighbors don't be upset at my suggestion.
Edit: anyway, I just saw the price of the Grail - 7,000,000 blessings! Perhaps we should can this whole idea... I'll be happy if I ever get a Dragonslayer (St. Georges Sword).

Why give it to a knight? I think we here should get it, as the real Grail is in Orthodox hands.

Hi, Jeff.
Why give it to a knight?
To keep it in line with the Arthurian Legends of the Grail - only a knight with a pure heart could obtain the Grail. ;)

The real Grail is kept in a Church in Ethiopia and I don't think knights have anything to do with it.

Jeff,
What is supposedly kept in a church in the Ethiopian city of Axum is the Ark of the Covenant.
Take a look at these great articles:
http://www.oneworldmagazine.org/focus/etiopia/ark.html
http://goafrica.about.com/cs/adventures/a/lost_ark_axum.htm
According to Arthurian Myths, the Grail was taken from Jerusalem to Great-Britain by St. Joseph of Arimathea.

All this Grail talk reminds me of Monty Python! My best friend of 15 years was for most of that time, a Youth Pastor in the Protestant world. (now my Orthodox godson and internet radio partner in crime!) He would regularly use the "Holy Grail" movie as ann object lesson for older teens. Why? To show them the absurdity of seeking after a cup instaed of seeking after Christ Himself.I don't know if John Clease and the rest of the whacky crew ever gave this any thought or not, but to me, it was a brilliant if slightly unorthodox method for conveying a deep truth.
As far as our obtaining the Grail, why not, sounds like fun.:)

The special items store should also have the "Holy Grenade of Antioch". ;)

Is it? I didn't know that. I have noticed, however, that about EVERY landmark precious to Christianity has an Orthodox Church on it. :) (i.e. the Holy Sepulchre, the Cave of the Nativity, the Grotto of the Revelation, the Upper Room, etc, etc, etc....) :priest:

I've been noticing the reactions over this "CF grail" lately. There's even talk in OBOB of charging folks 50 blessings to come to their Chapel to "view" it. It's a little computer image. I don't get it.
Can't someone here format one for TAW? Is that alot of trouble? Maybe we could all have it in our sigs or something. The CF grail is kind of ugly. Why would anyone want to "pay" 7 MILLION blessings?

How big do you want it, that is the same height as the 7000000 grail, which is 15 pixels in height. The officer icon on this post is about 35 pixels high. I can make it bigger that is not a problem, I do not think I can get much smaller though.

Jeff the FinnSince I am the one who came up with the suggestion I feel I should explain my reasoning behind it. It took me some time before I purchased anything of the new items we now have access to. The only item I purchased was the Holy Rosary since it is something that means a lot to me. The other two items I have were gifts to me. In looking over the items I came across the Holy Grail. Being a huge fan of Arthurian Legend and having a love for tales involving knights and quests, it was natural for me to link that to my desire for a way to help bring my fellow brothers and sisters in OBOB closer together. I also saw with it a way to honor the Blessed Mother. Thus the Quest came into being for OBOB. I hope that explains it for everyone. Once we have gained it we are going to create a Blessed Mother account and have the Grail on display there in honor to her. Until we reach that point I thought it would be both honoring to the Blessed Mother, and a nice change of pace (especially since I am a fan of Joan of Arc) to have one of our Lady Knights be the keeper of the blessings and the purchaser of the Grail.

I don't think it is ever a good idea to take what one person says as being representative of the entire group unless the person doing the talking is the leader of that group. If you look at my posts on the subject you will notice that I am asking others for their opinions through out the Quest. There is very little that is official or written in stone. The only thing that we know is that we will create a Blessed Mother account for the Grail to give honor to the Blessed Mother should we actually acquire the Grail.

Greeter, this is not what happened, and you can go to the Anglican's Grail thread and read it for yourself. A Catholic came to the Anglicans and invited them to join your Quest. Then the Anglicans responded and were ungraciously rejected by all but one Catholic, whose opinion was completely ignored.
In attempting to "mend your own fences", only damage to your neighbors has resulted, perhaps beyond repair, considering the horrifying amount of prior damage done in previous threads, where Catholics set upon non-Catholics like Pit Bulls for God, as though they constituted a serious threat to the entire Catholic church, when all they wanted to be was your friends.
Then a fight started over a joke made in the AF about this rivalry, which was no different than the jokes which which you have made about them. There was a genuine attempt to heal that smaller breech, which may even have worked, but it doesn't change the fact that you had your friendly rivalry, you blew it, and you blew it badly.
However well-intentioned InnerPhyre's idea was, it's done nothing but harm, to date, Greeter, and if you win it, contrition will need to be offered up along with it, in my opinion.
My Orthodox friends, please think carefully before you involve yourself with this: the Anglicans wanted that friendly rivalry, but happened was no fun.
We turn everything into a fight here, it's turned CF into a nightmare for me, and now that the pet daycare option is functioning, and I'm going to have to take some time off from the travesty of Christian fellowship which exists here right now.
Please don't involve yourself in anything which is likely to harm your Christian inner peace and walk, as mine has been.
I don't want to discourage you from getting involved, if that's what you want, and the Anglicans would happily share the Grail with you. Just please just count the cost first. We don't need any more casualties.
Greeter wants some fences mended, and he wants you to help him, but some of the fences we have around here need to be lowered, not repaired; good fences don't make good neighbors:
"Before I built a wall I'd ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offence."

You've got a very good point, Eusebios. I did enjoy the idea of a lil' fun inter-faith sport, but it is important that we do not forget what is most precious to us and our beliefs.
