Well things seem to be a bit quiet so thought I would post. Anyone know of a good book that discusses the formation of the New Testament? :)

Well, I have mentioned in a previous thread that I like Luke Timothy Johnson's The Writings of the New Testament: An Interpretation.

Another one is Susan E. Gillingham's One Bible, Many Voices: Different Approaches to Biblical Studies

I highly recommend Ray Brown's Introduction to the New Testament

I highly recommend Ray Brown's Introduction to the New Testament
I definitely second this.

F.F. Bruce has some definitive books in the field, namely his New Testament History and The Canon of Scripture.

I'd also highly recommend Bruce Metzger's The New Testament: Its Background, Growth, and Content as well as his The Canon of the New Testament: Its Origin, Development, and Significance.

One good introduction to the New Testament that is more conservative than Brown's intro but still takes some critical scholarship into account is the Introduction authored by D.A. Carson and Douglas Moo. The work pays a lot of attention to the canonical status status of each book and the development of the canon as a whole.
