While it may be said that the word "trinity" is not found in the Bible, it is not true to say that the doctrine of the Holy Trinity was fabricated many years after the Bible was written. It might be correct to say that it was formulated after the books of the Bible were written. By "formulated" I mean the formal explanation, by the bishops of the Church, of a doctrine which had been believed by the Church since the beginning, which belief was founded on the teaching of the Lord and His Apostles. The Church has formulated doctrines throughout the centuries when true doctrines of the faith have been attacked by heretics. It makes sense that a full argument would develop after the dispute has already started.
There's more to read about the Church Fathers on the Trinity (http://www.catholic.com/library/Trinity.asp).
For those outside of the historical church, the Church Fathers are those guys who were teaching the doctrines of the faith before the bishops of the Church finally decided which writings would end up in our Bible - around the fourth century A.D. It sounds crazy, but it's true. There were bishops before there were Bibles.
Peace be with you.
