Catholic Heresy Lawsuit Against Kerry for being Pro-Choice
I just saw this linked in a different forum.
www.defide.com
A heresy lawsuit has been filed against Kerry for being Pro-Choice. Those filing the suit are asking for all, not just Catholics, to join the suit. More info can be found at the link above.

It will show to the world that freedom of thought in the Catholic Church does not exist. What this thread is doing in TAW is beyond me.

I personally don't know how Kerry clears his conscience with being Catholic and pro-choice, though I don't think he's unique in that regard. I'm sympathetic to this complaint, but I think it runs some really distinct risks for the Catholic Church.
One is that he will look like a martyr of conscience to many people even though the church is well within its rights to censure him. Two is that people will bring up the old JFK arguments that a Catholic president would have to answer to the Pope before the American people. Lastly that an accusation could be made that the Church is being selective in what it's enforcing (say ignoring politicians who support capital punishment for instance).
I don't myself accept any of those, but I could see them all being raised.

Has any issues like this come up in the Orthodox Church? Like, have any Orthodox politicians who supported abortion or some other thing the Church condemns (and the Orthodox Church *DOES* condemn abortion) been denied Communion? Just curious.
Granted, we are all sinners in need of the Body and Blood of Christ. However, isn't one suppose to confess before Communion? And if so, isn't the principle to "Go, and sin no more"? If this is true, and a politician continues to support something openly that the Chruch has condemned as sin, how could the Church possibly continue to give them Communion? If a person is unrepentant of sin, isn't it dangerous to let them partake?

I'm confused. What kind of freedom of thought are you referring to, Jeff? I took it to mean that Kerry should have the "freedom" to be pro-abortion. I hope that's not what you meant.
He most likely posted it here thinking that he would find many pro-lifers among the Orthodox. And rightfully so.
I don't want a dispute and if this turns into yet another one here, I shall pull out of it. I'm just not understanding where you're coming from.

Nothing against Fr. Rick's intent. But due to the way discussions about the RCC go downhil more often than not in TAW, I'm going to lock the thread.
