You guys really helped me out with the question of different Methodist services. I got a really good mental picture and I want to thank you guys.
Now, I'm onto another question. What are the differences & similarities between United, Free and other Methodists?
Thanx ahead of time.

Thanx ahead of time.Ok I am not totaly sure about doctrine or if they have conferences etc but what I do know is this. I have been to services at both churches and the services I have been to have been alike. They have a set meathod of doing things although that may change somewhat. The services I have been in were litergical in nature but with a contemporary flare. (some modern music clapping hands etc.) But again I don't know much about FM doctrine.

That is a really good question MParedon. I don't know much of the difference myself to tell you the truth. I have a friend that was raised in a United Methodist Church and now attends a Free Methodist Church and I asked him the same question. I want to say there are very many similarites between the Free and the United Methodists. There was a thread on this in PRE at one time and I remember that the differences were few because I was thinking that I could be either a Free or a United Methodist. I want to say the Free Methodists add a vow in their membership vows about abstaining from alcohol and drug use.
Let me do some searching and see what I can find.

Here is the link I was thinking about. There is a whole side discussion on the United Methodist Church in that thread, but the differences of the Free Methodist are given as well. Hopefully some of our members of the Free Methodist Church will pop in here and help us out!

At one time the Free Methodist Church was very conservative being more in line with the Wesleyan & Pilgrim Holiness Churches--no jewelry, no dancing, no movies, etc. It is not really associated with the Methodist church. The United Methodist Church: One which merged (1968) with the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) which was more conservative & the other which was the Methodist Church (leans liberal). The EUB was formed by an earlier merger of churches with Methodist-like beliefs: the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. & The Evangelical Association.
The Wesleyan Church broke away from the Episcopal Methodist Church over the issue of slavery...the Wesleyans were opposed to it.
