I work at an organization that gives international opportunities to social studies educators. We are currently working on a program that is going to take some local teachers to Turkey. The applications have all come in and today we sent them off to be judged (only a few get selected). Since I had to organize them and make copies and stuff, I got to look over them a bit. One of the teachers wrote all about how she wants to go because she loves to teacher her students about Eastern Orthodoxy and it's influence on political, architectural, and artistic history. She said one of her main goals in going to Turkey would be to take pictures of Orthodox Churches and bring the pictures back for her students to see and to learn more about the history of Orthodoxy there.
How awesome is that?! This is a public middle school history teacher. Let's pray that she gets chosen, it would be so awesome to have students learning about Orthodoxy and all it's wonderful contributions to history. Who knows what seeing the Hagia Sophia and the many beautiful churches and learning about Orthodox history may put in the hearts of her students. :crosseo:

Wow! Let us know the outcome.
I believe it will take a miracle for her to be chosen although I do not have the application in front of me.
However, there are a lot of well-placed Greek Americans in education departments across America, so that is a possibility.

I don't want to say the organization because CF comes up on google searches and I don't know if I would be in trouble for discussing the applications.
Based on the number of applicants and the number that will be chosen, she has about a 1 in 4 chance. So let's pray that something in her ap jumps out to the judges and they chose her. I was seriously so excited to see that in her ap.

Google does its searches through keywords ... so you might want to delete a keyword or change it to something else so that Google cannot key the word here to CF.

That would be awesome. My son goes to a Christian school and I have been impressed and dismayed at different times about the presentation of Orthodoxy. The Western bias is clearly evident even when the materials try to be balanced. We need more teachers like her!
