What is a Seventh-Day Adventist Believer?

In a nutshell:

Seventh-Day Adventist Believers follow Jesus Christ as revealed in the Scriptures.
Seventh-Day Adventist Believers are Sabbath keepers on the day which God gave man from the beginning of the world.
Seventh-Day Adventist Believers seek to live lifestyles in line with Gods purpose and will as shown at Creation, in His Law and the teachings contained in all of Scripture.A Seventh-Day Adventist Believes in the Sabbath, the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, and Gods plan for our lives.
The name Seventh-day Adventist is based upon two core beliefs of the church? Seventh-day describes the observance of the biblical Sabbath, the seventh day of the week Saturday as God's ordained day of worship. Advent, or coming, describes a belief in the nearness of Jesus Christ's return to this earth.

A Seventh-Day Adventist believes in the Trinity of three persons--the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit that make up one God. Salvation became possible when Jesus, the Son, came to earth as a baby in Bethlehem and lived a sinless life in accordance with His Father's will. When Jesus was crucified for the sins of the people of the world and arose from the dead on the third day, victory was won for everyone. When He returned to heaven following the resurrection, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to serve as our Comforter and Counselor. He promised to return to earth a second time to complete His plan of salvation and take His people to heaven. Adventists are among the believers who look forward to that day.

A Seventh-Day Adventist believes that God is concerned with the quality of human life, and that everything - the way we live, eat, speak, think, treat each other, and care for the world around us - is part of His plan. Our families, our children, our jobs, our talents, our money, and our time are all important to Him.

A Seventh-Day Adventist believes that God wants you to know Him.
God most clearly reveals His character in three great events. The first is His creation of man and woman--and His giving them the freedom of choice. He created humans with the ability to choose to love Him or to hate Him! The death of Jesus Christ, God's only Son, on the cross as our substitute is the second great event. In that act He paid the penalty we deserve for our hateful choices toward God and His ways. Jesus' death guarantees forgiveness for those choices and allows us to spend eternity with Him. The third event confirms the first two and fills every heart with hope: Christ's tomb is empty! He is alive, living to fill us with His love!

A Seventh-Day Adventist believes that Scripture directs how we live.
Scripture is a road map. The Bible is God's voice, speaking His love personally to you today.

The Bible speaks the Creator's directions to us, like a detailed road map that clearly shows the exit ramp directly into heaven. It is also much like an owner's manual for a life ready to be lived on the cutting edge of liberty.

Portions of Scripture are direct instructions and laws from God such as the Ten Commandments, recorded in Exodus 20. These tell us more about God and His expectations for us. When people asked Jesus to summarize these commands, He focused on the way God's love affects the way we live. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul," He said. "And love your neighbor as you love yourself."

On other pages the Bible gives God's practical advice and encouragement through parables, lists, promises, and warnings. Amazingly, though many different writers throughout thousands of years wrote the Bible, each page describes the same God in ways we can understand and apply in our lives today. This book is always His voice talking personally to anyone who is willing to read and hear.

A Seventh-Day Adventist Believes that Jesus never changes.
Jesus is the one who never changes in a universe that always does. Jesus is Creator, Sustainer, Saviour, Friend, God's Son, and God Himself!

Everything in this world is always changing, even our desires, interests, skills, and body shapes. But Jesus? He's consistent. He's always the same. Sure, He's always surprising us and touching our lives in thousands of new and different ways, but His character is unchanging. He's God's Son, the Creator, our Saviour, and Friend.

Jesus has promised to be all of that, and more, for each of us. We can trust His promises because He is God. When the words of Colossians say "in Him all things hold together" (1:17, NIV) that includes everything in our lives. He keeps us whole when the enemy is trying to make us fall apart.

Seventh-day Adventists believe that Jesus is one of the three persons, called the Trinity, who make up our one God. The Bible describes Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit as each being committed to our growth as Christians and to our salvation as their children. They made this salvation possible when Jesus came to Bethlehem as a human baby. He lived a life perfectly in accord with God's will and then died innocently for all of our sins. He was placed in a borrowed tomb, but He came back to life three days later. Now he is in heaven interceding with the Father for us, preparing for our deliverance from sin and death.

Look to Jesus, and you'll be looking into the understanding and loving face of God.

A Seventh-Day Adventist Believes that God loves us and has a plan for our life.
God's love is about you. Personally.
God made you and has a very special plan for your life. It's a plan that will fill you with hope, love, peace, and activity. In fact, when Christ paid the penalty for sin on the cross, that gave Him the right to claim you as His own. As a result, you can experience His love and priceless salvation freely and fully without limit.

A Seventh-Day Adventist believes that God cleans away all our sins and replaces them with His goodness. We don't have to be "good" for Him to accept us. Nevertheless, we must accept His promise and allow Him to clean out everything the enemy has left in us. Then we begin to experience the transforming power of His love.

Remember, Jesus has already won the war. He is victorious! We celebrate His victory in our lives when we participate in the Lord's Supper. This meal includes three symbols:

Foot washing (which symbolizes our commitment to love others as Jesus loves us),
bread ("This bread is my flesh," Jesus said, "which I will give for the life of the world," John 6:51, NIV), and
wine or grape juice ("Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life." John 6:54, NIV) To help us understand how God can transform us into His children, Jesus modeled the process of baptism for us. Baptism symbolized dying to self and coming alive in Jesus.

A Seventh-Day Adventist believes in full immersion baptism because by being fully buried beneath the water we symbolize that God's grace fully fills us with His new life for the future. Through baptism we are truly born again in Jesus.

A Seventh-Day Adventist believes that Jesus Christ gives us a gift of eternal life, peace, purpose, forgiveness, transforming grace, hope: Everything He promises is ours, because He's offering it and He's shown we can trust Him to do exactly as He promises. Accept His gifts, and you immediately become an active part of His family, and He joyfully becomes part of yours.

I'd prefer to use the biblical word 'Godhead' instead of 'trinity'.

I skimped it over. It looks quite generic. Our unique message in 'what makes us different' sticky should be included in there.

Ok, I added it, see how it looks, I took it from my church site so it is a bit 'generic', but give us some Ideas, tweaks or better wording.....

A Seventh-Day Adventist believes in the unique Adventist message.
Seventh-day Adventist church may appear different to some because of their worship service on Saturday, the 7th day of the week, or their promotion of the vegetarian diet and a conservative life style, or their beliefs on the state of the dead and on annihilation...

But what really sets them apart is the unique Adventist message. During the worldwide religious revival movement of mid-1800s, God commissioned His servants the prophets (Rev 10) to proclaim the Three Angels' message (Rev 14:6-11) to the world. And by proclaiming the bitter sweet message (Rev 10:9-11) and by experiencing the Great Disappointment of 1844, the faithful remnant of the 1840s' movement were forced to search the bible for their errors.

The unique Adventist message was formed during this time. Not by the dictates of Ellen White's testimonies, but rather by the light shed from these inspired writings that forced the early Adventists to refocus on the scriptures. Through earnest prayers and diligent bible studies, the pioneers came to the understanding of their message.

By grasping the sanctuary doctrine, they understood by vivid illustrations of the earthly tabernacle found in the bible the Plan of Salvation and true Righteousness by Faith message. That is the ever present truth proclaimed throughout the bible: "...prepare to meet thy God..." Amos 4:12

The true believers of God who are daily justified with Christ's righteousness imputed and sanctified with His righteousness imparted, are to have complete victory over sin, to reproduce His character in fullness in their lives.

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;" 1 Peter 2:9.

By the manifestation of His love and character, they are to witness with the power of the holy spirit to the Laodicean church and to haste unto the blessed hope of His long-awaited return.

That is the unique Adventist message.

I dont either, but its kind of like the 'Virgin Mary' issue, yes she was a virgin but Adventist dont like to dwell on it since 'Virgin Mary' has been elevated and used in a way we dont agree with.

Seventh-Day Adventist Believers seek to live lifestyles in line with Gods purpose and will as shown at Creation, in His Law and the teachings contained in all of Scripture.

That is pretty good explanation of what SDA believe but I am having a hard time putting it into a nutshell, anyone want to comment...

1. We hold (in common with every professed Christian church) that the seventh day of the week is Saturday. We deny that Jesus has in any way changed the Sabbath, or that Jesus has said with regards to Sunday-keeping,“do this in remembrance of Me”. We hold that the seventh day is holy to God.

2. We hold that the Ten Commandment Law was not done away with at the cross, but that the law of ceremonies were blotted out and done away with.

3. We believe that the dead (whether saved or unsaved) are totally unconscious, and know nothing while they are in the graves. We believe that all the dead are “asleep” until they are bodily resurrected in either the first of the second mass resurrections.

4. We hold that Jesus employed no power or advantage that is not available to any Christian.
Of Himself Jesus could do “nothing”, in the same way that of ourselves we can do “nothing”.

Jesus laid aside His glory and power in this world, but He took them up again when He re-entered heaven.

5. We differ from mainstream Christian views in terms of the extent of salvation. We believe that Jesus can indeed “keep us from falling” under temptation in this world; and that it is therefore not necessary for a Christian to sin.

6. We are not an exclusive group, and do not believe that a person must be a member of our church in order to be saved. However we believe that the Sabbath/ Sunday issue will become the test for the whole world, and that Sunday-keeping will finally constitute the “mark of the Beast.”

7. We believe that Church and State should not mix.

8. We believe that the 2300 day prophecy of Daniel 8:14 reached it’s fulfillment in 1844, and that at that point we entered into the Day of Atonement and the Investigative Judgment.

9. We believe that the seven last plagues will fall just prior to the Second Coming of Jesus, and that every unsaved person in the world will die at that time.

We understand that Jesus will bodily return to the earth in His glory to resurrect His dead, and that He will (without setting foot upon the earth) remove all of His people to heaven for 1000 years (during which time His people will “judge the world... and angels”). We do not believe that there will be a 1000 year reign of peace upon the earth.

10. We believe that “Babylon the Great” represents all apostate religion, and that a future call will be made to “come out of her”.

11. We do not accept that the mainstream Protestant view of “speaking in tongues” is of God, but we believe that the gift of “tongues” relates to the languages of men.

A Seventh-day Adventist Believes...

Seventh-day Adventists believe that Jesus is one of the three persons, called the Trinity or Godhead, who make up our one God.

Accept His gifts, and you immediately become an active part of His family, and He joyfully becomes part of yours.[/quote]
