View Full Version : What am I?

Hi, I have believed in Jesus for a little over 2 years now. Before, I was a Christian, I was a conserivative Jew. I went to Hebrew school, had a Bat-mitzvah, and celebrated the holidays. Culturally speaking, I was a Jew and was very proud of my heritage, mostly b/c of my strong upbringing as a Jew. However, my beliefs were more aethist. I didn't really believe in God, and I didn't think much about Him.
Anyways, now I do believe in God, and in Jesus as the messiah and the Son of God. But, I still feel very attatched to my Jewish upbringing and I am still very proud to be a Jew.
I attend a non-denominational church and go to Bible study. At first, I was really taken aback at the the songs they sang and the way the pastor taught. Sometimes, I still feel as though I am a trader to my identity as a Jew when I go to church.
I went to a Messianic church for awhile. But that kind of freaked me out too, b/c I was so confused. The first part of the service was very Jewish like, w/ people wearing Yamikas and Talis, and there was the Star of David, but no crosses anywhere, and they sang Hebrew songs. They read from the Old Testament. Then the second half turned into more of a Christian sermon where they read from the N.T. and they sang and danced. Anyways, one day the rabbi/pastor told the whole congregation to start speaking in tounges (which I never saw before) and everyone started making weird noises. It really scared me, so I decided that the Messianic route wasn't the way to go.
So that leaves me where I am now. I go to my non-denominational church and it is great, I have great fellowship and opportunities to grow. However, I still feel like I am missing something. I just wish that I knew what it was. I don't really feel like I truely belong anywhere. Not in a Christian church, Messianic Church, nor a Temple.
So sorry that this is long, and doesn't really answer the question. I just felt like voicing my conflicting mind. If anyone has any advice or can shed like upon my situation, I am open to hearing it.

Love,
Lauren

Welcome Lauren!! Looking forward to your imput in our discussions!!

BTW - don't judge all MJ congregations by the actions in one - they are a vastly divers group. There are those even more "churchy" than the one you visited - and there are those that are hard to distinguish from an Orthodox service - and everything inbetween. :)

So kick off your shoes, relax and join in!!

In the spiritual journey that we all should take, the Holy One of Israel, has been found to be the only true God. It is by His travels with the Israelites that we see His love and forebearance. He is righteous, He is real, and He is the only one that we should seek after. He is not found in traditions of men, He is found in the still small voice and in the truly repentant heart. He is Almighty, yet patient, awesome, and Holy. He has not left us without guidance, and a personal invitation to meet with him in our own home.

He needs not objects to conjure Him up in our minds and in fact is insinuated by those that think and preach such. He needs not to be found in only one place, through only one person, through one system. He is everything the Holy Scriptures have documented regarding Him. In there you have the real walking talking experiences of believers with Him. He is more.

With limited words to describe God, those in the Holy Scriptures have done their best to pass on the wisdom, the knowledge, the experience, and the understanding that they have of the Holy One of Israel. Those that walked with Him, sat at His feet, ate with Him, and saw Him raised from the dead, could not understand the depth of truth as it is found in Him, and it takes a life time for any of us to get even a glimmer of the depth of truth.

He is not a feeling, not the warm fuzzy stuff, He is Awesome, Almighty, Holy, and because of this, we who are unholy can not exist in His presence with out the covering of Atonement that is bought at a High Price by Yeshua. Deep within the lessons at Mount Sinai are the truths about our salvation, the path, the truth, the way and the light that shines forth from that day is still the only way to leave Egypt and Babylon. It was Yeshua that lead then and leads us now. HE is the great I AM from the beginning. As our King of Kings and Lord of Lords, He has lead us through the wilderness of sin, and He has fought the dragon and won. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Word of God in truth. Follow Him.

This discussion was split from a Jewish Debates Thread as it did not fit there.

The subfoum "Jewish Debates" is specifically for debates between non-believing Jews and Messianics about Messianic Judaism issues..

I split out these other posts and found a home for them where you can continue this fellowship and encouragement.:)

I do pray that she will find her way as it is difficult for us all. Who knows what would have been my reaction if I would have found out when I was her age?
