I don't know that I'm totally ready yet, but I've been drawing nearer to Orthodoxy over a long period of time. I'd really like to take the next step and become a part of the life of the church, but this is not something I can do apart from DH, who is a committed Christian, but not exactly interested in Orthodoxy.
Anyway, I could really use your prayers - both for me and for DH. This weekend, he is out of town, and is planning to read "Thirsting for God in a Land of Shallow Wells" by Matthew Gallatin. He is doing it because he loves and respects me, and because I asked him to. I don't know if there are any other reasons besides that.
Please, please pray for us. It would mean a great deal to me.

giove it time. Some people are in marriages where they can become ORthodox and pray their spouse comes along later. Others (perhaps like you) aren't in such a situation and it would be more damaging in the long run. Just have patience. If God feels this is your calling and you keep praying, in time he will either open doors for you to come alone (while still sanctifying your marriage) or for you both to come. You wil be surprised what GOd can do in time to another's heart.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and words of encouragement - they mean a lot to me.
This has been a journey of about four years for me, and I am often impatient. I trust that God has his perfect time (kairos) for his will to be done in our lives - whatever it may be.
By the way, I'm not trying to hide my identity from you by using a sock. I'm sure there are a few old-timers here who can probably guess who I am. However, I do have other reasons for not posting this under my regular username.
Thank you so much for your prayers for us!

Although I have to say that when I saw this title, the slang definition of "sock" didn't immediately come to mind. Instead, I thought of the cloth things you put on your feet: "someone wants prayers for SOCKS? " ;)

Indeed there are many of us here who are on the path somewhat alone. My wife has zero interest and I have been attending D/L alone for 2 years. Not chrismated yet.....sort of waiting on her. It might be a long wait.

Been there as well [ even though not Orthodox ] My husband calls himself atheist .
I've not managed to do anything about that in 43 years of married life - but he encourages me to go to Church and indeed actually took the photos of my Chrismation - I thought he would do one or two - but he took photos of everything so I have a wonderful record of it.
He was actually furious that the Latin Bishop told me I was a heretic because I wanted to go East and now he really encourages me - won't come but doesn't put any obstacle in my way.

Just a note about that book - while it has great information in it - there are a few things that Protestants can take offense at (such as generalizations...and an anti-Protestant attitude in some areas). At least - that's what my Dad got out of it. Maybe my Dad would be offended by most books - but he seemed to do better with "Becoming Orthodox" by (Bishop? Metropolitan?) Peter Gilquist.
But - everyone is different - so it might be fine with your husband. To me - it seems like if people are looking for Orthodoxy - it is a great book - but if they are biased against it - they can pull things out of the book to support their views.
Besides all this - I will keep you in my prayers. It is a long journey when we are the sole Orthodox in our families. Especially when the others have absolutely no interest in it at all. My prayers for you and your husband on your journey... :crosseo:

Hang in there. We are celebrating The Resurrection after all, and in the Resurrection there is hope for all things, big and small.
Lord Have Mercy.

I was the unwilling partner at first. I was the Protestant kicking & fighting the pull towards the 'catholic' church. But God was patient with me. I studied and listened. My wife had already got a date for Chrismation. Then a thought came to me that I did not want to live in a spiritually 'divided' home. That shook me up and before I knew it, I was reqesting Chrismation too.
So, with so many prayers and God on your side, anything is possible.
