Here is the posting ground for members of the all-new "Order of the Candle."

You know who you are.

Gather here to discuss our all-secret plan to take over ChristianForums with unity, love, and the fire of the Holy Spirit.

Post here once you have been inducted, and do what you can to induct a new Nazarene/Wesleyan/Methodist member to the "Order of the Candle."

Grace and Peace,

WJ

I've already made an offer on another candle.

Post here as soon as you have received your induction gift. By posting here (and displaying your candle) you agree to uphold the ideals of the "Order of the Candle" in all of your posting and discussion on CF.

/me isn't yet sure what the ideals of the "Order of the Candle" are yet.

Ideas?

I will also do my best to uphold the ideals of the Order of the Candle! (Well, once we know what those ideals are! :) )

/me lost his candle when he put in on an auction for another one.

There are only 50 of them. I think we control about 12-15 of them right now. I know where 2 of them are, and am in negotiations for them.

I also have a fundraising auction going on to help us raise the much needed blessings to control the rest of the candles.

Ideals--

Let's see, how about this for starters:

Honesty
Peaceful
Loving
Full of the Holy Spirit
Fostering Unity on CF

Grace and Peace,

WJ

Awesome WJ, I almost put a big bid on that rose! How much did it end up going for anyway?

(Hehe, 50 more posts and I can be an apprentice!)

WesleyJohn
26th June 2004, 10:05 AM
We got 700 for the rose. I'll use it to purchase more candles so we can induct more members! :D

WesleyJohn

Oh...yeah...I put in an offer for a private sale for another one. So, I'm waiting to hear back on 3 of them right now.

dsdumpling
26th June 2004, 10:09 AM
WJ, how can I help?

WesleyJohn
26th June 2004, 10:22 AM
Track down those candles! and try to buy them. A private sale works better than an auction, because someone can "Bless" you with an item that you already have, but you can't bid on an item that you already have in your inventory.

Then, seek out Wesleyan/Methodist/Nazarene folk who aren't yet inducted...determine that they are worthy candidates for the high calling of the Order, and induct them!

:D

{EDITED TO SAY: You can no longer be 'blessed' with an item that you already have. Therefore, you need to enlist the assistance of pages or other helpful persons. For instance, I have an official candle holder who is holding my candle for me, so I can continue to traffick in the purchase and sale of candles}

WesleyJohn
26th June 2004, 10:22 AM
And...at some point...I'd like to make sure that I get a candle back again... :D I gave mine away in order to bid in the auction.

WesleyJohn
26th June 2004, 10:40 AM
And..we need a theme verse. Suggestions?

dsdumpling
26th June 2004, 10:49 AM
I have some things that can be put up for auction. Maybe when the need gets higher, we can auction them off.

WesleyJohn
26th June 2004, 10:50 AM
Yeah...I have some auctionable things too...although I don't really want to part with my violin... hmmm...

The first challenge is to hunt down those candles... :D There must be another 30 or so of them out there that I don't know about...

I'll keep an eye out where I hang.

Greetings, Candlers.
I come in peace.

I have most urgent news.
There is an enemy to us all named "OracleX".

First my tale: I owned 1 of the 10 binoculars, and put them on auction for a beginning bid of 300b.
The first bidder was "OracleX", and as the name does mean a gazer, I deemed it right that I accept the one bid, so that OracleX would have the approriate item.

So I thought.

But now I see that OracleX is bidding on various items, to accummulate a monopoly on limited items.

This includes a bid on a candle. Bidding higher than your own WeslyJohn's bid.
(The owner of the candle, holding the auction is gigglegrl14.)

Know that I have now bid higher than OracleX on that candle. That candle, should it be mine, will be yours.

Perhaps one day you may repay this kindness by gifting sandals: an item which a few Catholic posters desire.
One Catholic is in true consideration of being a monk in real life. He has CF items of a monk, sans sandals.

Above all, we must defeat our common foe, OracleX.

Peace be with all members of the Order of the Candle.

WesleyJohn

Peace to the Barefoot Wanderer...

I thank you for your assistance in our quest to equip all members of the Order of the Candle with the necessary equipment to accomplish our task. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Grace and Peace,

WJ

WJ, did you say something about needing a Bible verse to represent ourselves? Here are a few ideas :

Matthew 5:14
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Luke 1:79
To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.

Luke 8:16
No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light.

Luke 11:36
If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.

John 1:4
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

John 12:46
I have come as alight into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.

Romans 13:12
The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

Ephesians 5:8
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light

Just a few that I found at www.crosswalk.com (http://www.crosswalk.com) when I did a search for 'light'...I tried candle, but apparently they don't use that word in the NKJV. LOL, anyway, if you guys don't like any of these there are plenty more...

Now...I....must....sleeeeeeeep!

Henaynei

Some other versions do - this from the KJV

Ps 18:28 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=ps+18:28&version=kjv&st=1&sd=1&new=1&showtools=1) - For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

Pr 20:27 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=pr+20:27&version=kjv&st=1&sd=1&new=1&showtools=1) - The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Re 22:5 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=re+22:5&version=kjv&st=1&sd=1&new=1&showtools=1) - And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

For the ladies:
Pr 31:18 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=pr+31:18&version=kjv&st=1&sd=1&new=1&showtools=1) - She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. And several of those verses in the post above are translated candle in the KJV. I am uninformed as to whether your denominations use the KJV or not :)

The Silver Knight of the Candle is to leave on a great quest of training and fellowship on Monday, the 28th day of July. He will return in one week's time.

I have some notes to leave you with--

1) Do not ever allow yourself to be in possession of more than one candle. If you do, one of them will be forever lost in the depths of the ChristianForums.com server. You may find it helpful to enlist pages who will assist you in your quest for candles, and then you can induct a new member with your candle and have your page give you the new one. I have asked one member to hold a candle for me, so that I can continue to traffick in the bidding and sale of candles for others.

2) The great Erwin has deemed it possible to increase the inventory of items from time to time. I believe that some Acoustic Guitars have been added to the store. Someone should check back from time to time to see if any new candles get added.

3) When I did my first induction run, there were about 12 candles in the store. I would buy one, give it away, and then buy another. Be sure to induct Wesleyan/Methodist/Nazarenes.

4) If you come across someone else who has a candle but does not wish to part with the candle, and has chosen that candle for Christian purposes, you may (if they meet the requirements of this honourable society) invite them to be an honorary member. (Of course, they can keep their candle otherwise...it's not like we can force it from them!) This way we promote unity among the board instead of being exclusionary. IF, however, they are just holding a candle to drive the price up, or keep it from other godly men and women, I do not see it fit that they should be invited to do anything but repent. ( :D )

5) As I have said, I will be on a great quest this week. Please pray for the silver knight that he would be encouraged and equipped for every good work during this conference. When I return, I would love to see 30 candles in the control of the Order of the Candle, and I would love to see a theme verse chosen which all would find meaning in. DSDumpling will provide guidance and inspiration in my absence.

Grace and Peace to all those in the Order of the Candle,

WesleyJohn

One more note...Auctions...

Currently, there are three candle auctions happening. Since you can't hold more than one candle, I have dropped my bid in all but one auction.

My understanding is that theofilus is bidding on our behalf in the veggie auction. However, right now we have no bidders in the schaaf82 auction. Also, since I will not be around, I cannot continue to increase my bid in the gigglegirl auction.

Please coordinate among yourselves the bidding and/or private negotiations on these important auction items.

Grace and Peace,

WJ

Candlers should recruit pages (or other assistants) to continue to bid on auctions on our behalf. There appear to be those who would prevent the Order of the Candle from completing its circle.

To get another candle, you have a couple of options:

1) Give your candle to a page, so that you can negotiate or bid on an auction
2) Give blessings to a page, so that they can negotiate or bid on your behalf.

You may wish to consider offering a private purcase/sale agreement, in order to work against those who would wish to prevent us from completing our circle.

Greetings fellow Candler.

You have been inducted into the Order of the Candle. I see that you have learned how to "equip" your candle so that it appears in all of your posts. For more information on the "Armor of God" program, you should visit the "announcements" forum and read the related thread.

The candle merely identifies you as a member of our honorable society. You (and all of the other members of the order) have been chosen because of your great honor and love for God and for unity on CF. We are called the "Order of the Candle" in that we may complete our circle of unity and spread the light of love and the Holy Spirit here on CF.

Some may ask..."Do I have to always display the candle to be a member of the order? There are many other beautiful things to display." While the candle is our primary sign, I would hate to prevent you from displaying other 'special items' in order to be part of the order. One might choose to display another item of meaning for a time, and still be accepted in the Order of the Candle. Two suggestions though: 1) Members not equipping a candle may wish to copy and paste a candle into their signature. 2) Should a member of our honourable order decide to decline their membership, we simply ask that they pass the candle along to another who is worthy of this fine fellowship.

Grace and Peace to you,

WesleyJohn
The Silver Knight of the Candle

PS. Just in case none of that made any sense...it's just something fun that I thought of, which would be unique to the Wesleyans on the board. I don't want to be exclusionary, but thought we would have fun questing after all of the candles, and in so doing, proclaiming our love for God and for unity on CF. Hopefully that makes more sense.... Obviously, nobody is forced to participate in the Order, and we can't wrest control of candles from other members. :D

WesleyJohn
27th June 2004, 07:06 PM

You should PM Erwin and see if there's anything that you can do with them. There was a slight bug in the system, and by fixing it, I think that you aren't really supposed to have them. Probably you were given these extra candles before the bug was fixed, but I'm not sure what you should do with them now. Perhaps he would allow you to tell him who you would like to induct into our society.

Grace and Peace,

I have with gigglegirl but she doesn't want to trade, she wants blessings. Will work on her.

Has she said how many blessings she wants? If you find out, let me know, and I'll make sure she the funds are covered. I'm waiting to hear back from a friend to see if she can hold my candle for me, then I will be hitting the auctions hard myself, so if you see any auctions with my name on them, I'll make sure it's won ;)

I just came up with an idea that was not on purpose I promise. I put in my title or whatever it is salled candle holder and acolyte. Maybe through the leaders of this order of the cadle we can have "ranks" Acolye would be like a private candle holder like a sargent and my specail title that I made up would be like a leutenate and they could go up like usher, lay speaker, (some thought may need to go into these next few) cardnal, bishop, etc.

However, with my experiance and somewhat helpful demenor at times I hope I do not have to start way down at Acolyte. Ideas, suggestions, what do you think?

Yeah! I somewhat remember you. :) Those potatoes were really good. The ham, too. I think I left before dessert (looked like a blueberry crumbly thing or something) because my baby was getting grouchy. :(

I knew I should have gotten on the bullhorn and ask if anyone was on CF, because chances were there was at least one. ^_^

Maybe we'll see each other at the next DA. :)
Maybe... we should keep in touch because I may remember you... but I'm not sure because I'm not exactly sure who you are ;) .

I depart on my quest in three short hours. (I still need to pack!!!)

I hereby leave you with these parting instructions:

When I return, I would love to see 30+ candles in the control of the Order of the Candle, and I would love to see a theme verse chosen which all would find meaning in. DSDumpling will provide guidance and inspiration in my absence.
Please note that there are some members who have been given candles but have yet to find their way to our Round Table. Dark_Lite and Celticflower are two such people who come to mind. You should also track them down. The Barefoot Wanderer may be willing to assist you in your quest by holding a candle while you traffick.

Grace and Peace to all,

HeatherJay

What would be the best way to go about choosing a theme verse? A poll is the obvious choice, but I'm not sure if this thread should be extended to the rest of the forum...it might start to clog up the regular message board if we do that.

Would it be possible for someone to get a list of Order members and maybe we could do it through PM's somehow? One person emailing everyone with a list of verses already posted (but leaving the option open of adding another) and asking for a favorite pick. Then after getting everyone's initial choice, maybe we could start to narrow it down?

Just an idea...maybe someone else has a more organized suggestion? :)

To arms, Candlers! To arms!

There is a candle in the Auction (by midge) and the sole bidder, bidding a very high amount is our common adversary OracleX.

I suggest someone go and bid and also Private Message midge that besides blessings, you would trade an item. (Blessings can be bought; items are scarce.)

By the way any more thoughts about our them scripture, Order song, or rank. Not real fond of "rank." WJ is clearly the founder and leader, other than that we should all go out into the world showing our light equally.

My favorite scripture for the order would be Matthew 5:14-16. John Wesley preached a sermon and/or tract on the specific subject. Trying Erwin's new bible feature:

Matthew 5:14-16 That is a great set of verses. As for rank I actually agree (even though it was my idea) but thought it would give the Order more well order. Also I thought it might make it fun. But again I agree that it is not the greatest idea. Just giving ideas on how to make The Order of the Candle more interesting.

Just a few items of business:

1) Have all the acquired candles been given out to prospective inductees? I have a few suggestions if they have not.

2) How do we want to go about choosing a verse? Do we all agree on this one:

Matthew 5:16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.Or do we want to put it up for a vote for all the ones some of our members have graciously contributed? I can either sit up a poll, and request that only members of the order vote. I believe there is a way to show who votes on those things. Or I can pull all the verses together into one post and we can PM a designated person with the verse we chose. The verse with the most PM's is the one that is chosen. Or I am up for other suggestions.

3) We have another honorary member! But I will let this person chose when and how to let you know their identity......

4) Hopefully our Silver Knight will return once again safely. Prayers are continually being sent his way for a successful quest and a safe journey home! :prayer:

Technically, a board doesn't adopt a Treasurer's Report...it is filed subject to audit. The adoption of other reports may be moved, seconded, and passed, but you can really only ask the treasurer questions of clarification...there is nothing that the board can approve or disapprove of...and so the report is filed subject to audit.

So...do we need an auditor???

Welcome to the group, Planny!! :) I certainly have a great, long way to go before I "deserve" a candle here. Speaking with truth and love, encouraging my brothers and sisters toward unity in the midst of sometimes blatant hostility--that's not easy, and it doesn't come very naturally for me. But this candle, it's only just a reminder we carry around of what God has called us to. It makes no difference whether it's sitting up there on your profile or not: God has still called us to encourage one another toward love and unity in Christ. Might as well hang on to the little icon and stick around the Order of the Candle. It's a long road ahead, and I could use the support and the company. ;) :)

I was thinking that I would gladly donate my candle in order to bring in another member. I mean, I have a candle image posted in my signature, so I think I could live without the real thing. Is the goal to only initiate 50 people (or however many candles there are) or would it be more in the spirit of unity if we continued to pass our candles on, keeping a momento as part of our signature or something? Or maybe we're trying to collect all the candles before we do something like that? I don't know...just a thought. Feel free to set me straight. ;)

WJ can correct me on this if I am wrong, but I do believe Erwin is aware that the images can be copied. I believe another staff member brought that to his attention at some point. And I don't think he actually created the images himself, at least not all of them. I am thinking I read where he posted somewhere that he purchased them. Still, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check with him on this anyway.

And, I have asked another person to become an honorary member. Bigsierra!!! He takes part in our forum and contributes as much as many of our Welseyan brothers and sisters do so I thought it only fitting that he join our Order as an honorary member.

I did send my last candle to Learnin'2-4Give, but I haven't heard from her as yet.

Actually, I was thinking that copying the images would mean that people wouldn't need to purchase them, and as such, wouldn't need the blessings to buy what they want. Now I know most of us who are site supporters couldn't care less about what we get as a result. We donate because we love this place and want to help keep it online. But if some people are donating to get blessings in order to buy things, well, I just wouldn't want to do anything to discourage that. I'm probably just thinking too much... :D

Dawn

Dawn, you don't want a PM from me, honey; this is the season when I begin placating, groveling, and prevaricating in order to get the monetary help and services for which the government made people like yourself pay out for my maintenance.
It was much easier before I ended up with the landlady I have now, but she is the landlady I have now, so I'd rather give up the public library's free service for shut-ins than lie to one more person I don't have to. For all I know, the library volunteer is even sorry, although the fact that I was offered a new volunteer isn't a good sign in that respect, and I believe we're all Christians, too, but neither makes any material difference to the situation whatsoever.

EDIT: As it turns out, my librarian capitulated too easily for me to be anything but a problem to be solved.

Keep up the good work, everyone.

Oh yeah, introduction, let's see. My name is James and I live in Evansville, IN. I serve in the media ministry of my church doing graphics and small amounts of video editing when needed. I've also worked at other non-Methodist churches doing the same thing, but consider the UMC my home.

Welcome, Wired. :) We drive through Evansville all the time on the way to visit my husbands parents. They live in a little town called Spencer a little way north of you. :)

We drive through Evansville all the timeI'm sorry. Nobody deserves to experience the Lloyd Expressway.

P.S. Just call me James. (makes it a little more personal)
