Well Praise The Lord! The mountain has moved a little. At least it is an update! :sigh:

I had one heck of a time finding the following thread and post made this morning but here it is ...

First, we had a major database crash, compounded with some issues with the datacenter and server. That was rebuilt, albeit the time stamps are likely still messed up, and likely will be that way until CF is upgraded.

Going forward, CF has been replicated on a second system, including a copy of the database. That is being used as test bed, as well as a dry run for the upgrade. Rather than the original plan of migrate and tweak, Lee made a call to do it carefully, rather than rush and chase bugs for months

In addition, we did discuss bringing the site offline, but the call was made to keep it up, even if its hard to use.

Lee is doing a lot of work behind the scenes. Beyond the 3 server guys we had in the past, Lee has 2 more guys on it. He also has added more tech staff to assist with the upgrade.

I wish I had a definitive timeframe, but alas I do not at this time, either for repair, or for the upgrade. My guess is some things were unearthed which proved a lot more complex than expected.

I also wish to apologize for bad communications. Unlike in the past, where some usergroups were kept alive while the site was down, ie sort of a safe mode on a different server for comms and maintenance purposes, this time out, we are in the same boat as the members. Sometimes we can post and pm, and for much of the other times, we are locked out, or the site crashes on us.

In addition... I hope this works, annoumcements is broken, and I can't access it. This is an attempt to work around it, which may or may not be successful.

Again, my apologies
Ron

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally. I still think it is pretty bad when we have to start several threads asking for what is wrong. We should have never had to do this.

It will be another 2-3 weeks probably until this place is fixed.

The link takes you to the same thing mnphyscist said. The CF Tech Liaison position is currently vacant.

And what are the requirements to fill that role ?

For the record, the site-wide announcement program is not functioning so Mnphysicist has been having issues getting the word out. It is not the result of multiple threads not being answered, simply put, we are having trouble posting as well.

Senior staff is affected by the issues just like the members and we are all equally frustrated. There is no single answer or solution to this problem, I recommend patience and prayers for the tech team who are working to fix the problems so we can finally integrate the final upgrade. I assure you when all is said and done, crashes will happen on a less frequent basis if not at all and the site will work so much better all around. I've seen the test area and have been impressed overall by the quality of work that is being put into it for the members/staff alike.

Sadly I cannot give you a timeframe either as things crop up to throw off schedule. My prayers are with the tech team.

One thing they could do is modify the database entry for one of the older announcements, overwriting it with a direct SQL data entry.
But I guess that depends on if the SQL server itself is behaving, how well it's behaving.

that's a feasible option....if Ron could even get into the program that contains the site-wide annoucement posts.

That's the problem therein. Pretty much anything tied to CF is bonkers and worse than a 2 year old having a tantrum. :sorry:

So no direct SQL Access without using the Web Server ? :(
No Shell or anything :(
bummer.

I think you're speaking in tech language. Ron uses the program that comes with the site. I don't think anyone has direct access to anything besides what the server spits at us (aka CF and it's programs).

So you may be on something more complex than we're aware or capable of doing (as volunteer staff)....:sorry: At this point in time, we're just trying to keep the place from becoming a forest fire and keeping our sanity too.

Ok, but I know a bit of the back end of Forums, I've done SQL programing :D
Yes the site has a front end, but if it's the web server that's causing the problems, then whomever has the login info for the SQL server itself, could log in with SQL Administration programs that bypass the Web end.

But once again it depends on if it's the Web server / PHP code causing the problems or if it's a SQL Server problem.

The site is almost completely unusable; it's worse every time I log on; if I even get on at all.

And my main complaint is that my wittle character never got to wear her Easter outfit on Easter weekend cuz I couldn't get on ;-)......I'm trying to post some sort of happyish smiley, but it won't go to that either.......

Rough moment in history for all the CF Addicts. ;-) (like me)
