View Full Version : Which TBN Programs Do You Like Best?

I especially enjoy the gospel music of Betty Jean Robinson, and usually tape the sermons of Rod Parsley, Zola Levitt, who broadcasts from Israel, and Dr. Michael Youssef (born in Egypt, a convert from Islam, now a Christian pastor!) My son likes Real Videos, which plays the "coolest" Christian music today.

What do have you seen that you recommend?

Kirk Cameron, the Bible movies, John Hagee (when I'm hot! :D ). There are more, but my memory's shot - please pray for me! :P

On TBN? Not much.

I don't watch it. But if I did, I would recommend the show I saw Mr. T on, simply because it had Mr. T on it. Some black preacher was interviewing him. I couldn't tell you the man's name.

LoL, Newlamb! You're right - TBN usually has pretty good movies (especially around the holidays) which I also enjoy. Actually, I think their programming has improved since they first started broadcasting.

Mr. T's usually on Praise the Lord!

Paula - I agree that their programming is getting better! Also, did you see that they will be going into China? That's some accomplishment!

Almost everyone on TBN is in it for the money; they give Christianity a bad name. Every time I turn the channel to TBN, I remember why I vowed never to do so again. I'll hear herisy, or some woman screaming to the top of her lungs, or some person singing some phrase over and over and over and over and...like a demonic chant...

...or I'll see a choir on stage acting out being taken over by the Holy Spirit, but really they've just got way too much adrenaline pumping through those veins, trying to get high off of God.

Then there's Benny Henn, who thinks he can heal people by blowing on them or pushing them over (by the way, the Apostles never did it that way).

It all makes me very angry.

And Christmas performances. Those are the ONLY good things about TBN that I can think of.

As with everything else in the media (including the Internet) these days, one needs to be discerning about what we bring into our homes. But I wouldn't totally denounce TBN, as I think they're making an effort to improve the quality of their programming.

I really don't watch TBN, but sometimes when I am clicking through channels, I will notice a good movie.

As a funny story, my husband loves the movie "King David." I mean, it has gotten so bad that everytime he puts it on, I sort of think "Lord, how many times must I watch this movie!"

Well, my husband and I went out of the country recently. As we got settled in our hotel, he turned on the tv. Well, the next thing you know, there we are watching King David.

"How is this on?" I asked, because the room didn't have any VCRs. Well, wouldn't you know it was TBN. LOL

I like the movies on TBN. Not a fan of the preachers except for Hagee and stuff by Kirk Cameron. Now, if only they could make better Left Behind movies!;)

I went and rented King David after listening to both books of Samuel on the road. Just like in literature, I am rarely impressed by movie renditions of the classics. They always deviate or abbreviate somewhere. It was fun, but nothing I'd recommend.

You know, that is probably a very true statement. I have yet to find a truly Scriptural interpretation of any Biblical story. I guess there are as many movie possibilities as there are varying interpretations of Scripture.

However, in terms of what we watch, those movies are a far cry better than some alternatives on tv. :)

Yeah, I guess that they are better than some of the alternatives. Personally, I don't watch much TV at all. It seems like everything on TV is out there to warp peoples minds. I may miss stuff like Turner Classic Movies, and the History Channel, but that is it.

I know it is not extremely scriptural, but I enjoyed the movie, Joseph that Turner did.

Most of TBN is garbage. Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort's show is great and sometimes they have a good movie on. Usually it's the same old word of faith sow a seed junk though...

Although I am a Calvinist and don't believe all the teaching in the Left Behind series, I was really impressed with Kirk Cameron's mathod in Tribulation Force to show that guy that he was a sinner. Then my minister preached on that the very next week. I think that it is called the WDJD, or What Did Jesus Do. I was impressed.

Has anyone here noticed how there are many different shows on TBN, and most of them espouse details of the faith that are not consistent with all the other shows?

Just trying to open your mind.

Very valid observation, Mr. GF. Case in point - Robert Schuller's Hour of Power - which is just about the extreme end of modernist liberal Christianity. So there is a little something for everyone.

Do you think Jesus intended for us Christians to decide for ourselves what Christianity means, or do you think that he intended it to be fully consistent?

If we can pick and choose the details of the faith, does't this put individuals in charge of deciding doctrine?

The body of Christ is very split in that there are many different denominations and beliefs. Not all Christians are ultra-conservative some are very liberal. Some believers like to hear a message about prosperity within the church others are completely turned off by it. Some Churches are over flowing with Spiritual gifts others choose not to be. The reality is many believers do pick what they want to hear and I guess that's just part of being a Christian. :)

Jesus would, of course, opt for consistency, and so do I. Many of us do not believe in the multiple paths to salvation theory, and I suppose that's why we've been labelled intolerant fundamentalists.

Exactly, and that's why that sort of thing is so dangerous. It's obvious they can't all be speaking the truth, yet some insist that is so.

Faithful Catholics take this very seriously too.
The church tries to be so consistent with history that many people mock us, even our Christian brothers and sisters. We are the persecuted of the persecuted. We are just trying to be very consistent with the faith as it was in the begining as written by the Apostles and early church fathers.

Exactly, and that's why that sort of thing is so dangerous. It's obvious they can't all be speaking the truth, yet some insist that is so.
Yes, we have all these different denominations and people, who all claim they are being led the Holy Spirit. But you and I should know that God is not a God of confusion..
1cor14:33 "For God is not the God of dissension, but of peace: as also I teach in all the churches of the saints"

So, it does not make sense to me why the denominations would continue to argue over doctrinal issues. Well,, it does make sense, everyone is being individualistic, and think their own interpretation is the best, they want thing their own way, they don't like accountability unless it is their way. Jesus did not set things up like this.

If I write any more, I will pobably get in trouble for starting a debate, and I do not want that to happen.

If you invite me to explain some beliefs or just wish to continue conversing in charity, I would greatly appreciate it.

I like Way of the Master with Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort that teaches Christians how to evangelize and show actual witnessing footage.

There is a lot of false teaching on that channel, but there's some real Christian stuff.
