Why is it so hard for anyone to post for the administration on what is going on? There are major problems here AGAIN and no reply from anyone on what happened etc. We, as site supporters,do have the right to know. This site has been having probl;ems now for a good 3-4 weeks. And still nothing.
Problems as of now:
1) Can not post on a thread unless hit double clicks.
2) After you post, you can not hit back to turn the page back to the forum
3) You can not go back to another thread from one thread to another
4) Reps that is a BIG laugh.
Can we at lease be told what happened?
Thank you in advance

Other problems too are Its been real slow loading . Sometimes I have trouble getting in the forums, takes several tries before I can get it. It freezes, sometimes it takes me more than a double click to get through.

I have the same problems.
Before when the site had problems, they were fixed asap and usually the same day if I remember correctly.
We went thru a whole week of MAJOR glitches; dissappearing posts, pages not loading, posts all out of order, couldn't rep well at all.... finally that got fixed & we had 4 pain free days.
Now we're on day 2 of serious page loading lagging if the page loads at all.
I'm praying we don't have to wait another week for this to get fixed?
It looks like patience around CF is starting to ware thin at this point. And I wonder what newbies must be feeling?
Maybe some SS compensation should be considered by extending their support for an extra week/month or something?
Just a thought :sorry: :holy: :holy: :holy:

That is one thing I will say about Erwin. He had this place running great...when there was a problem he would POST what it is and how he is working on fixing it.
This site has gotten so much worse when Erwin left.:( He kept it as CF and rules were in place to follow...now....
We paid money to access this forum and to use it...and now we can not without getting fustrated. I agree with you, maybe if they had to give some compensation to ALL SS for this downtime things might get better.
I really do miss Erwin.

Hi Barb =)
I was starting to wonder if the techs left with Erwin and this is under other 'management' where tech are concerned.
If so, I think some other system needs to be employed to fix things sooner than having to wait days or a week.
Or whatever. I know nothing about any details behind the scenes, I only know the inconvenience and frustration is wearing thin anymore and it's curbing things that go on here at CF.
And I agree that at least telling us why it's down again or a time estimation of a fix date might help ease the growing impatience?

I miss Erwin too. He seemed to actually care about the site. It had problems under him, yeah, but at least the problems were fixed, and didn't drag on for days and weeks with no information.

Oh I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one having issues! I have not been able to get on this site regularly and consistently for several weeks now! And nothing personal, but I'm a CF Angel--how am I supposed to do my job if I can't get on the site?
I must admit, I've been here a while so I know what this site has the potential to be. If I were a newbie, not only would I not support this site, I wouldn't come back. And I feel :( that I have to say that!

There's another thread to report bugs that I've posted on this same issue and I mentioned the same thing, it's the Newbies that I wonder about!
They come in and the site's down & stays glitchy and frustrating. I'd probly leave.
Since I've been here, like you, I know how good the place CAN be... they don't!
This is probly going to start losing site support if it continues.

Yep, if it's taking too long to load, I click 'x' then refresh or click what I was trying to do again (post, navigate, whatever).
Also double clicking all the time seems to help a bit.

Maybe because the owner does not care about the site. If someone is really into their site they would make sure it is up and running ALL the time. This is going on the 4th day now.

We just went thru a whole week of worse site problems & had only 4 days of pain free posting around here before this new nitemare popped up --
I think the pattern being set is when a site bug happens, you're stuck with it for about 1 week till they get around to dealing with it.
I don't know about Lee's level of concern over the site becuz unfortunately we have no news on what's going on - but I do know that some other type of system needs to be set up for techs becuz this just isn't right.
Or if it's a server problem, then move to another server already. Anything.
And at this stage, I DO think site supporters should be compensated with something in return for the continual problems and headaches. (in all fairness, everybody should actually be tossed a bone of some sort) :(

Can hardly navigate anywhere, posting only by clicking numerous times, repping impossible, took half an hopur to feed my pet last night and thats after not beimg ablwe to be on for about two days. We really need a time frame on this. Signing off till fixed.

From Another Thread, a bit of 411.
Okay here's the deal as far as I know. With the updates we're planning for the site, it means overhauling alot of coding and upgrading. Since this site is as HUGE as it is this means taking the time to plan every little detail out so that nothing is lost or crashes and we have to start the whole site over again (I don't think we want all our posts going bye bye).
Only about 2 or 3 SA's can really do this type of upgrading to the site. And it takes hours to find the right coding, re-write coding to make sure it fits to Lee's specifics (though SA's have given ALOT of input on them as well) and what we know members want too, and make sure it'll actually work before bringing it to the site.
Now do this repeatedly with ALOT of new updates---yes we have alot of wonderful things planned. So it takes time and energy and all we can ask is that you not hate Staff (particularly SA's who honestly can't do much at all) and have patience--- I can't do any modding at this point because I can barely load 2 pages every few minutes, let alone do any work for the Angel ministry or send pms to my friends or post in member forums.
I think one of the reasons we're having so many problems is because we've already updated parts of the servers, but we're using poorly written coding. But it makes no sense to spend time trying to re-write bad coding when we're trying to focus on writing new coding to make the site even better. Right? :)
So please have patience with this site--- we're here as a community and I know we all just want this site to be up and running normally so we can converse. I'm sorry we can't offer any more updates on stuff, but really we don't know any more about the situation--- we just know where we are in the process, but we're not sure about a time table yet.
If any of you want to privately vent your frustrations, feel free to fill up my inbox (no pm's will be reported for vulgar language or flaming, I promise lol).

I dont hate anyone, especially staff, because its clear that the vast majority of them are as much in the dark as us mere members.
I do really seriously dislike the lack of communication though

I have no doubt they know what is going on, how could they not, but what I don't understand is why they cannot let people know what they are doing and maybe a guess as to when they may be done. Anything is better than nothing and being kept totally in the dark just makes otherwise reasonable people resentful.
Just give us a little info, please. :sigh:

I agree with you Tenebrae--I don't hate the staff. I'm sure the mods and supers are just as frustrated as we are and can't get their jobs done either. In fact, it's been my observation that most of the staff does their best to do their jobs and be supportive and helpful. So nope--I don't hate the staff.
I also understand if there are big changes being made to the site--code being re-written is pretty major , time-consuming, and tedious work. Plus you have to test the new code you wrote to make sure it doesn't make even MORE bugs than the bugs you just supposedly "fixed." So I understand that too!
What I DO NOT UNDERSTAND and CAN NOT TOLERATE is days upon days on end with no communication, no updates, and no progress reports. ~ NOTHING~ In my opinion that is disastrous customer service, as I am sure LeeD is going to find out. And just telling people to "be patient" does not cut it.
In my opinion, here's what WOULD cut it:
1) As I understand it, they were planning some updates to the site and then due to site issues, the 'update' was forced to happen earlier. However, this is based on RUMOR and not confirmed communication from the site owner or any SA type person. Have someone who is a PR person who GETS REGULAR ANNOUNCEMENTS OUT THERE!
2) Go to each forum, have a place for general announcements, and tell us what's going on.
3) In the announcement, say "These are the issues we have heard of, these are the issues we are working on, and here's what we're doing to fix them."
4) If the site does not work--LIKE NOW--take it down, leave a message on the "server down" page that we get when there's an error, and WORK ON IT to get it to work right! (Leaving it up halfway working like this is NOT COOL!)
5) When you have the site down and the restore is going slower than expected or there is a problem you didn't anticipate, just put an update on error screen!
6) Apologize for the inconvenience you've caused people.
7) Offer some sort of compensation for being patient, coming back, trying again, etc. It doesn't have to necessarily be money but blessing would work--reps--even "you will be credit for the month of March since the site was unusable for most of the month".
8) Take it seriously that people who are oldies, long-termers, and workers here are the people who are voicing frustration! Act as if you care, as if it matters, and like you want to keep us here.
That's my two cents...well probably more like four cents but

does anyone know if there been any update on the problems lately?
(namely getting a database being repaired message about every other within CF link click, and long loading times followed by an time-out error)
seems to be better today but there are still some.
yesterday was horrible I could only get things to work about 3 times out of 4 hours of trying to get pages to load.

For the record, the site-wide announcement program is not functioning so Mnphysicist has been having issues getting the word out. Here is his post (http://christianforums.com/t7114591-small-update-on-technical-issues-at-christianforumscom-april-6-2008.html) which I quote:
First, we had a major database crash, compounded with some issues with the datacenter and server. That was rebuilt, albeit the time stamps are likely still messed up, and likely will be that way until CF is upgraded.
Going forward, CF has been replicated on a second system, including a copy of the database. That is being used as test bed, as well as a dry run for the upgrade. Rather than the original plan of migrate and tweak, Lee made a call to do it carefully, rather than rush and chase bugs for months
In addition, we did discuss bringing the site offline, but the call was made to keep it up, even if its hard to use.
Lee is doing a lot of work behind the scenes. Beyond the 3 server guys we had in the past, Lee has 2 more guys on it. He also has added more tech staff to assist with the upgrade.
I wish I had a definitive timeframe, but alas I do not at this time, either for repair, or for the upgrade. My guess is some things were unearthed which proved a lot more complex than expected.
I also wish to apologize for bad communications. Unlike in the past, where some usergroups were kept alive while the site was down, ie sort of a safe mode on a different server for comms and maintenance purposes, this time out, we are in the same boat as the members. Sometimes we can post and pm, and for much of the other times, we are locked out, or the site crashes on us.
In addition... I hope this works, annoumcements is broken, and I can't access it. This is an attempt to work around it, which may or may not be successful.
Again, my apologies
RonSenior staff is affected by the issues just like the members and we are all equally frustrated. We are all having issues posting/communicating. There is no single answer or solution to this problem, I recommend patience and prayers for the tech team who are working to fix the problems so we can finally integrate the final upgrade. I assure you when all is said and done, crashes will happen on a less frequent basis if not at all and the site will work so much better all around. I've seen the test area and have been impressed overall by the quality of work that is being put into it for the members/staff alike.
Eveyrone can wish for Erwin's return but frankly, what little I have heard is beyond Erwin's scope. There are 5 server/techs for this site and they are trying to fix/repair issues so we can crossover our final upgrade. We cannot give a timeline as we keep coming across more issues that push back our implementation date. I ask for patience and prayers for the Tech team as they have not been having an easy time of it.
