:help: Shalom friends, I need to know the Messianic names in which we use.

I know that Yeshua is Jesus in Hebrew, but what do we call G-D. I know it is Shema, which is Hebrew for "the name" (or is it?), but I have seen him called HaShema, or some letters like YHVY. Can someboady let me in on the lingo that we use, because I am lost! :help:

G-d is often referred to as HaShem (which does mean 'the name'). In prayer, He is referred to as Ad-nai (which would translate as 'L-rd')

There's also his name which is usually transliterated as YHWH, which stands for the letters yod-he-waw-he. It appears to be a Hebrew/Aramaic combination of the 3rd person singular of the verb "to be" making it in translation: "He will be." It is his personal name forever, which is to be praised! :)

Peace!

But many respect the name too much to call him by that and just as we write G-d we instead refer to Him as "the name" or HaShem.

Shema means to listen or hear, as in our daily statement of faith,

Shema Isra'el, Adonai Eloheynu, Adonai Echad.
Hear O Isra'el, the L-RD our G-d , the L-RD is ONE!

NO!

HaShem.....................No "a" on the end, that forms the word Shema. What you wrote says in transliteration:

"the hear"

Please read my post again. :)

Both HaShem and Adonay are substitutions to avoid saying the tetragrammaton, the four letter memorial name of God that Thadman wrote about. But Adonay also apears in the Tanakh as a name for God. Hashem is usually used in study and discussion and Adonay in prayer and worship. A combination is also sometimes used - Adoshem.

Then there are the names found the Amidah, for example:

Eloheynu = Our God
Elohey avoteynu = The God of our Fathers
Elohey Avraham = The God of Abraham
Elohey Yitsachaq = The God of Isaac
Elohey Ya`aqov = God of Jacob
Ha'el Hagadol Hagibor Hanorah = The great, mighty, and awesome God
El `elyon = The Supreme God
Qoneh Hakol = Master (owner) of All
Melekh,`ozer, umoshia`, umagen = King, Helper, Saviour, and Shield
Magen Avraham = Shield of Abraham
Ba`al Gevurot = Master of Mighty Deeds
Ha'el Haqadosh = The Holy God

Hebrew is kind of like Arabic.
