Here's hoping all will be well with your Mom! Mine had her knee replaced last year and...well...she didn't do very well. I've heard that it either goes one way or the other with most people. My Mom also suffered a severe depression after the surgery and she's never experienced anything like that before so I think it just compounded things in her mind.
As for the cell phone thing...there's too many machines in a hospital so there is a TON of interference. Be careful using one on a monitoring unit (like a cardiac unit, PCU or ICU) as some cell phones will interrupt the monitors.

Thanks, Kae.
She's finally to the point where her pain level is below a 5, so I came home to get some sleep. We don't want to leave her alone while she's still a bit disoriented and the realization that she's 67 makes us kids a bit protective. Shoe's on the other foot now, huh? When did that happen? :P
Sorry to learn of your mom's problems. Is she doing any better now or did they have to do something else to help her knee? I know some people have to go through it more than once to get it right, but that would not be something I'd want to suggest to anyone.:sorry:
Mom confessed recently that she's fallen a few more times than we were aware of and her pain had gotten to be constant, so something had to be done. God willing, this one will do the trick and maybe her other knee won't have to be replaced as planned.

Mom refuses to have anything else done to the knee. It's "better" but only a bit better than before the surgery and she's just not one to tolerate much pain!
And yeah, let me tell you, I knew the shoe was on the other foot when she had her shoulder repaired and *I* got to be the one helping her put on her panties and stuff!!! We still giggle over that.

Why is cell phone reception so bad in hospitals?
When I worked in the ER, I was told it's because of the lead used in the x-ray dept. I was told this by a doctor, so who knows. :)
Hope everyone's moms are feeling ok tonight.

It was God's desire to call my daughter-in-law to the teaching position at our church's school. She has been led to accept the call.
Our son and his wife had to move because of his job, so she had given up her teaching position this past spring. This is a wonderful blessing from our Lord, as she loves to teach so much. It was very difficult to give up her other call.

Blessings to both you and your daughter, Seajoy. It is indeed a blessing to any congregation to recieve such a person in their church school. It seems, sometimes, that the Lord keeps a little too much, about his plans for us, from us. But as Pastor Rosenbladt used to say, "If he told us we'd just mess it all up. So it's probably better that we don't know." Hence, I suppose, the admonition from the Bible, "...be calm and wait on the Lord...". Though I must admit, there are times when this is very difficult to do. Congratulations to both your son and Daughter-in-law.
Speaking of blessings and waiting on the Lord...
Nana, my Old English Sheepdog, was thirteen years old this year. Her breed generally doesn't live past seven or eight years. Whilst I'm very much aware of the blessing of her age, I've also become very attached to her. She's been my only companion for the past three years. This past week she seems to have dis-located her left shoulder. Nana's been in a lot of pain all week. I've given her Tylenol (it's all I have) and it seems to have worked. Still, she spent three days largely sleeping. I had to force her to get up and go outside or eat or drink. All of this brings home to me the short, very short, time I have left with her. I pray that there is strength enough to deal with her loss when the time comes.
Sorry, just something that's been weighing on my mind lately.:sorry:

Hubby had a new engine put in the truck, he's going to have to get it fixed, it was making a racket. It has a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine, shouldn't cost this time, did putting the engine in. We pulled the boat we just got to the lake this weekend with it and the boat wouldn't start so brought it back too, the truck started making a racket on the way back home, both the boat and truck is sitting at my parents house right now.

I'm somewhat disappointed. It's pretty much a highly condensed version of LOTR - if you're in any way familiar with LOTR (as I am), you can pretty much predict what will happen. Even the names and many of the scenes are similar.
I'm still planning on reading the rest of the series though...they'll HAVE to be more original, since the first book used up the entire LOTR plot. :P

Elle aime des margaritas? Je pense que j'aime des fraises meilleures avec le rhum. Je ne peux pas boire le tequila, il me donne une gueule de bois horrible même si j'ai seulement une boisson!

Ah, yes. The fond memories of waking up with one's mouth tasting like the bottom of a bird cage. One that hadn't been cleaned in a week, to be precise. Sorry, I gave that up after counting the pennies it cost and decided that the horses needed that cash. That and the ribald tales that my friends were telling me of what I did. Being that I couldn't remember, well... it was better to quit before I awoke in jail.:o Or worse... Drinking and I just don't mix.

In College we had "Parkie's Punch Parties". The host provided a punch bowl, four big bottles of "Tahiti Treat" soda, and ice. Guests brought the 26'r of their choice, and poured it into the bowl, Gin,Vodka, Rye, Rum, you name it.

Sounds like the 'Garbage Pail' punch I heard about from my friend who went to ISU. Except I think that was - bring whatever you have and dump it in! (I never had the 'pleasure' of trying it, fortunately for me :D ) Oh, and I think they mixed it in a garbage can.

I wear size 14 also. I'm narrow though, got that from my mother, she wears a 10 1/2 AAA.
Don't know if my feet will ever stop. I thought I was done at 12B, then went to a 13, then a 14. If it wasn't for my short toes, I'd probably be a 15.
If you end up with some size 14's that are too narrow, keep me in mind.

My feet are shrinking. I am down to a size 8 from an 8 1/2 when I had my daughter back in my 20's. I can even fit into 7 1/2's sometimes depending on the style of the shoe.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Ctay. I used to raise Cocker Spaniels. Sometimes they would get into the master bedroom and would go up the step into our garden tub. They were too stupid to get out again. I had one male who would sit in the middle of the tub and bark till someone came in and liberated him. Oi, what a yutz!
George and I are discussing making both of these little bucks into weathers and training them to harness. they can pull a small buggy or possibly a lawn-mower as well. much more fun mowing the lawn that way.;) It's just a matter of their growing up and getting big enough as well as trained. Ah well, that's two years down the line...

Yeah Ctay, I know what you mean. Lackey would get into that tub every time. Why, I don't know. It got to where if we didn't see him for more than five minutes we'd look in the master bath to see if the idiot was in the tub again. Sometimes he'd climb in there and take a nap. We had to watch him like a hawk to make sure he didn't lift his leg on the furniture. Therefore, he didn't spend much time in the house.

When will I ever learn? Do not go wandering around the internet. It only gets me in trouble. I was invited to a forum for Christians so checked it out. The question came up regarding universalists and universal atonement, so I reply with how we view it. Now I am not one to get into debates, but one guy over there just had to take everything and rip it apart, you know, one of those Calvin type people. Then he wants me to reply to his dissection of my post.
Comes across as arrogant and tells me I need to learn and grow more. I had already said that I was raised in a church that taught double predestination and could not rationalize that teaching with such verses as John 3:16. Of course, they say that this verse does not really mean the "world" as not all are saved. What the heck? Don't they teach that not all are saved?
Anyway, I really need to quit wandering around like that. I have learned that those who follow the teachings of Calvin are just as dogmatic as us Lutherans. Maybe more so. They say they welcome those with other views, but then they like to tear us down.
Stay away from sites that are heavily stacked with one view!

I learned the outcome of my sleep study today. I only stop breathing 39 times per hour! :doh:I'm kinda tired of all this stuff I keep having wrong with me. I cried my eyes out when I got home. Sorry to talk about all this...I'm feeling rather sad, I guess.
The insurance company is fighting paying for my CPAP machine. My doctor says the criteria is 15 times an hour, and mine is at 39...go figure.
I'll be ok. I guess I'm just tired from the trip to St Louis and everything. :sorry:

Ya, fibro + no sleep = tired and owww. No wonder I'm wearing out so easily.
Before they put the cpap machine on me (halfway through the study), I had no REM sleep at all. After I wore it, I had lots of REM sleep. There's all kinds of other cool stuff on the sleep study report, but I don't understand some of it. It would be right up your alley, Marv....cause you're all scientific and everything. :)

I have no love for Insurance companies either, Seajoy. They're nothing but numbers men. In the thirties they were locked up for that kind of thing. Now it's legal. With all the horoscope stuff going around I had to check and make sure this was the Christian forum. ;) Thought I strayed out for a moment.:P Mum used to follow that stuff on a regular basis. She used to ask me, quite a lot actually, if I wanted her to read mine to me. I always declined. The stuff always seemed silly to me. Mum was alwoys going on about how I was born on the last day of Tarus and was therefore a 'cusp' on... Gemini, I think. Sounded like a lot of tomfoolery to me.
Then again... my wife used to say she was an Aries. Revrand, your answers are often just as... blunt. Perhaps there might be something to this afterall...:mmh:

I enjoy reading my horoscope at the end of the day or at the end of the month. It's really great fun to see how much of what happened that month you can MAKE fit into what was forecast for you! For me, it's just a good laugh. Especially when it goes on and on about romance and it's a month that hubby is deployed or TDY!!^_^

My friend who has gone through this with her husband gives the following advice:
She gets her doctor and sleep specialists to do some sort of form letter that says it's medically necessary
She check with her insurance company and MAKE SURE that the place she's ordering the C-PAP from is in their plan. Many insurance companies won't pay - or will pay MUCH less - if you go through a "non-network" provider
Check with the provider, too, and make sure WITH THEM that THEY are in network. A lot of ins. companies don't have the latest info - but you have to check with BOTH because if the Provider says yes but the INS. says no, then they treat it as out-of-network
If they still won't pay, then she'll have to start going up the chain to find out WHY they won't pay. she'll have to talk to the person who's in charge of approving the payouts, and that's different for each company
Once she's gotten to that person, she'll have to get them to completely elaborate why teh company won't pay. maybe she doesn't have all the right paperwork. Maybe they need a different form.
She'll also need to check her coverage. If the insurance papers she got says they don't cover machines, she's out of luck.
Or "medical appliances" or whatever they're calling 'em.
If there's NOTHING in the insurance about they don't cover it, and it's medically necessary, then she may have to get legal help involved.
Kae.....what are these flare-ups you are talking about? How are you feeling today, dearie? :hug:I'm having that horrid wide spread pain that makes me feel like someone's beaten me with a baseball bat over and over again. Marv, you don't understand that the insurance adjuster's focus is to deny benefits. Really. Their job is to keep costs down and therefore to create barriers that keep costs down and profits up. Most people forget that insurance companies are a FOR profit company. They want to keep your money, not provide benefits. Providing benefits is expensive and erodes their profit margin. All one has to do is learn which barriers and hurdles to negotiate and the company will have to provide the care they've contracted to you.
One satire on this is in the animated movie, The Incredibles. Bob Parr (ex-superhero Mr. Incredible) is an insurance adjuster who actually cares and trys to help the company's customers. He gets in considerable trouble for this too. His boss' complaint, "Your customers seem to have an inexplicable knowledge of Insuracare's inner workings. They're leaping all the obsticals, breaking down the barriers, penetrating the burecracy!" Sitting on the boss' desk is a letter from the corporate office detailing a profit loss statement. He is instructed to clamp down on adjusters who are eroding the company's profits. I realize that the movie is fictional. However, anyone who has had to deal with any insurance company will tell you that it's nevertheless very accurate in this respect. The more expensive a treatment, the more difficult it is to get. Especially if it isn't a life/death situation. The insurance companies don't want to pay out benefits if they can worm their way out of it. It's bad for profits, after all. Simple to understand... sad, really... but there it is.

Insurance- blech. It's always something with those companies. I once had to argue with them because they denied paying for the anesthesia when my son had his wisdom teeth out. (Like that's not necessary????) Turned out it had been submitted incorrectly, so they ended up paying, but still- grrrrr!

Oh, I realize it only too well.
Added to that is the screw you plan of the people making money providing things.
For instance the big pharmacy companies hunt to find which version of a medicine they can give you to run around the end of the insurance companied reimbursement agreements.
The doctors and hospitals take one procedure and bill it as if it's several separate things because that way they get more.
Not to mention the insurance companies again. They have a contract with most of the enrollees that has a copay clause often it's at a certain point after your deductible you pay 20 and they pay 80. But guess what, you pay 20% of the gross billing and they don't pay the 80 of the gross, they negotiate lower reimbursement rates. Of course they don't print money so it doesn't hurt the enrollees as a group, but individually it sure does, and it's absolutely contrary to your contract.
And there too is the system where companies routinely charge anything and anyone in the US much more for exactly the same goods, or even in many cases older, poorer goods than they charge others.
And not to mention the whole habit of making the patient come back repeatedly in order to get something done so you can be charged repeatedly.
I'm quite concerned about our health care system. First, because it often isn't very good, providing both too much and not enough care. It delivers care in an extremely inefficient way. But also for another reason.
Any system that so worships money would seem to me to be not only a threat to people's physical lives but their eternal lives as well.
