Most of the seeds germinating around Latebloomer and myself are corn and soybeans. You know, stuff that goes into our food. (or our cars)

But there is corn in many many things. Even the critters that we eat are fed corn.

I feel you. I used to be alergic to soy as well.
Soy bean, soy lecithin, soybean oil, soy milk, soy ink, and it goes on.

But now I'm over it. It is a terrible thing to go through.

Courtesy of Ted Bastian's strip 'Bugsport'. Yes, Don, the fellow in the background, is an Alien. That's a flying Studebaker pickup as well...;)

For the curious, Bugsport is here: http://www.tedsstudio.com/bugsport/page1.html
Be prepared though, for a thoroughly weird experiance at notweird dot com. The story is about a cartoonist who moves to his grandfather's farm in Bugsport Maine (doctor's orders that he reduce his stress... Ha!). Little does he know, the aliens who landed at Roswell New Mexico, were secretly relocated to this town. The hilarity goes from there.

Radiata, how did you 'get over' your sensitivity to Soy? I'd really like to get past this. It's a real pain in the... um... ah, rear.:sick: A much more moving experiance than I would like.

Sadly I don't think that there is anything that you can do. Over 9 years, I never touched any of it at all. But then I was exposed to it in small amounts. Like eating a ppj as the only soy intake for a month. Over the next few years, I took less and less care in not eating soy to the point where I was able to actually eat the snacks at my soccer games. Then, two years ago when I had another poke test it turns out that I wasn't allergic anymore. But in all honesty, I don't think that exposure to soy will build up an immunity to it. I believe that I just grew out of it. Hopefully something can be done for you. If its been a long time since you last checked your allergies, you might want to try another test. Who knows? Maybe you are not allergic to it anymore.

Our son developed an allergy to cats during his senior year of high school. He house sat for our neighbor and broke out in an awful rash and sneezing whenever the cat came close. He then had trouble everytime he was around our cat too...or anyone else's for that matter. We had to get rid of our Siamese "Yoda". Our son-in-law is allergic too. We are now a kitty-free family.

I am going to be missing for a few days. Our district LWML convention is this week. Our zone is host committee so we are going a day early, which means Wednesday afternoon.

Tuesday was a fantastic day. Some friends of ours from Nebraska were in the area and stopped by. This was the first time they had been here so we showed them the area, especially the churches hubby serves. After dinner, they took us up in their plane and we buzzed town as well as both churches! It was really fascinating to see just how many ponds that were created by the rains. There is so much you can't see from the ground. Did discover that our house is very well hidden by trees, even from the sky!

It is always wonderful to see friends. Keep them in your prayers though as their church is very troubled. Peace is not at peace.

We could use some of that rain here too.:prayer::crossrc: It's too bad we couldn't divert it whilst it begins to cross Washington and get it to pass over us too. When it does, the weather in the mid-west is far less severe. Ah well, if a wish was a train, we'd all ride for free...;)

Okay, I have returned. We had a great convention, though I was a tad disappointed about the mission projects. Oh well, the assembly voted and has spoken. Took about a 5 hour nap after returning this afternoon and am about ready to get to bed. Was on the convention newspaper so that meant getting it ready after the events of the evening. Then those in my cabin seemed to think that 5 a.m. was a good time to get up. Isn't that the middle of the night?

Oh, we finally hit 80 degrees and have had a lot less rain. Finally turned my AC on when I returned.

Well, I am off to see how seajoy might have gotten herself in trouble.

Not too far from Phoenix from what I have heard. We didn't go sooner because we weren't invited...all the other family members have been there multiple times. My husband's sister's family has been there a couple times...and they keep getting invited. We're quiet people and don't hint around like they've done, so that's the reason we've been neglected. His uncle was actually surprised that we were waiting for an invitation...but we have manners :)

I've been in St.Louis the last week, at my X gfriends, watching a menagerie of animals so she and her group could go on a rescue mission at the flooded areas of northern Mo. Many of her animals have special medical needs. Then my oldest boy arrived at his mom's house in an old RV. He had a blow-out that literally exploded and tore out the whole undercarriage around the tire and blew a huge hole through the floor. 25 miles down the road he had another blow out but managed to make it in. Him and his gfriend travel around the country doing odd jobs. In the last 3 months he has been working in a commune, then grain elevators and a group of people that travel all over the plains states on thrasher jobs. Before that they were in Oregon and he was doing odd jobs. She's an RN and can work just about anywhere.

Nope, no butterflies. I'm totally sure this is the right and good thing to do. *G*

I DO have some qualms over a bunch of drama going on in my family at the moment. *sigh* But I'm going to totally ignore it and just enjoy the day.

I melted down on Thursday night and then came down with two freaking cold sores! Called the Doc yesterday sniffling and said "PLEASE call something in for me!!!!" So she called in Valtrex. Oh my goodness is that great stuff! I took 2 last night and 2 this morning...the cold sores are GONE! *happy sigh* Now to keep taking the lysine (which is what I normally take along with abrevia) to maintain that. I need to find my Kava Kava so I can keep calm. *G*

Other than that, my (Clover Green!) wedding dress arrived today, right on schedule! I have my underpinnings and shoes and hose (4 pair just in case!) We have my ring and his should be done tonight. Got the license, all the stuff for the reception, the ring bearer's pillow, bouquet stuff, posy balls for the flower girls, makeup and nail polish (think I can get away with wearing green??) the programs, an Usher and a Best Man Proxy since Dad F can't make it...

I think that's all right now. *G*

Sometimes I wish I'd just said "heck with what you want Parents...I'm eloping!!" *G*

I'm baaaack. I've been on "vacation" for a week. We camped in our tent in the yard for a few nights, went to t-ball and swimming lessons, went to the pool almost every evening, and celebrated my husband's 50th birthday. We went to a bigger town (with a Walmart and a mall) and met my in-laws for supper. My husband's brother and his wife surprised us and came too. No cake. Sister-in-law brought him a birthday cookie. It was the size of a medium pizza. I found a dress to wear to hubby's nephew's wedding in August, discovered they make John Deere fruit snacks, purged the clothes in Tiger's dresser, and got some tank tops so I can try to get rid of my "farmer's tan" before the wedding. I haven't touched a computer in a week and my knowledge of world events seems to be reduced to what Tom & Jerry are up to.

Looks like I didn't miss much around here except for Kae's wedding plans. Kae, you've been waiting for this a loooong time. Do it your way.

Late, sounds like a wonderful week.

Well, I was at our District LWML convention and it went rather well. I can say that as our zone was one of the host zones. I was disappointed we voted mainly domestic mite projects, but that is the way it goes.

Also had my oncology check up yesterday and that went well. The lab numbers for that are all well within the normal range! I am going to try to avoid all doctors until my next one in one year. I need a break from all the poking, tests, opinions, new meds and all that jazz. Seems they always find something to be concerned about, I need a break.

Well, now that you folks are drying out after the floods, we're burning up. George and I are currently surrounded by four fires that are not contained. The smoke is so thick I can hardly see across the ravine. Thankfully, I got the pickup up and running. All I have to do is get the tyre changed on the motorhome and we're good to go. Unfortuneately, which way is the question. Highway 299 to the west is closed as the fire at Junction City is still not contained and burning on both sides of the highway. To the East, Buckhorn summit (299 E.) was closed at the Lewiston turnoff for several hours today as there is a fire burning there as well. To the North, there's fires on Hwy 3 near Hayfork. To the south and west, also on Hwy 3, there's a fire in China Gulch. Scary stuff. There's nowhere to escape from at this moment, not that we're in danger yet, but...:crossrc:

Thanks Sis, it looks like they will.

The fire near Buckhorn summit seems to be a grass fire. That is to say, it's burning in the floor and understorey of the forest and not 'laddering up' into the trees. Whew! That kind of fire is actually a good thing. It cleans up the forest floor and leaves the trees only lightly singed. They can easily deal with that.

I went over to the Fire Station at the bottom of the driveway last night. The fellows there assured me that most of the fires in the immediate area were largely contained or out. Double Whew! There's still several hundred fires burning in Trinity county, still, most aren't of any consequence. The air is even almost breathable today.:P

YIKES! And here we are without any spring rains (to speak of) at all! I do really feel sorry for all the people who were flooded out. This Old House has been doing a series on repairing the flood damage in New Orleans homes for the past year. My God what a mess! The houses have to be gutted to make them livable again. Not to mention the personal damage all this does. My heart goes out to those poor people, both in the south and in the Ohio river valleys.

It was lovely. The bride (me!! :D) wore green. The groom, handsome as could be in a simple charcoal grey suit. Best Man wheeled Matron of Honor down the aisle.

I was so nervous that the tear ducts worked overtime down the aisle. I had tears streaming down my face. Couldn't see a thing 'cause I took off my glasses. Mainly so I WOULDN'T see a thing. Mike had done the same thing but he said "you were so radiant. You looked like an angel." *G*

We forgot the cd player for the reception so there wasn't any background music. (we didn't want a DJ. It was in the Fellowship Hall at church.) So, my Dad wanted to dance with his daughter...he had our guests sing "Let me call you Sweetheart". (well, that's the tune that my Grandma's table picked. It was my Grandma and Grandpa's song at their wedding. *G*) So Dad and I danced and Mike and Mom danced and then Mike and I danced. (Mike's parents weren't able to be there due to illness.)

There was no shoving of the cake into each other's face. We ABHOR that "tradition". Nice simple feeding of cake. Oh and what a cake it was!!! Mom made it and nearly had a nervous breakdown over it the day before. She was in tears because the top layer fell apart. I told her not to worry that I didn't care. And I didn't. I'll have pictures so you can see how beautiful it turned out. Simply gorgeous. And so MOIST!!! Oh my golly. We ate the top layer at the rehearsal dinner (Pizza and cake. Gotta love the drummer's beat I march to. LOL)

Mike and I went around to everyone's tables and greeted them before we sat down to our dinner. The photographer, one of my sister's best friends and a sweeeeet heart, kept saying "GO EAT! I need pictures!" *G*

I think it was the shortest reception on the record books. LOL Everyone was leaving by about 5:30 or 6. Mom was sending everyone home with leftovers. I was glad 'cause I KNEW Mike and I couldn't eat all that was left over, even with Mom and Dad and the sibs help.

All in all, it was a wonderful day.

Blessings to you Revrand. May our gracious Lord be the guide to the path he has set for you.

The woman I married had a sick sense of humor (LOL)!:D She insisted on the 'cake in the face' tradition. I didn't want it, however after she tried and almost succeeded in smearing me, she wore a big green and violet smile. Yes, I surcumed to temptation.:ebil: But only a little.;) We actually wrapped the Bridal Cake very carefully and ate it on our first anniversary. The Raspberry filling was still delicious. Glad to see that yours is a good start, Strawberry. Do plan a vacation just for the two of you though (often, actually). Never forget, and don't let him either, that the courtship never ends. Now that you're married though, does this mean that you're no longer a wild Strawberry?;)

I wasn't going to talk about this until we had some answers...but I feel like talking about it tonight.
A nurse called my husband late thursday afternoon and said his CT scan results came in, and the doctor wants to see him on monday to discuss the results. My husband then asked her what the problem was, and she said "the doctor needs to tell you." His appointment is for monday morning. We don't know, at all, what to expect. It's kinda been a long weekend of waiting, but we are doing ok.

What would any of you think if you had been told something like this? We are at a loss as to what to think. We have decided there's no point worrying about it until there is really something something to worry about. Then it's all in God's hands anyway.

Thanks for listening.

The nurse was just following protocol. I hate that protocol. I MADE them tell me my results when they called the day before Thanksgiving (the office was going to be closed until the following Monday!). Crying worked for me...but I'm sure it wouldn't work for your husband!! ;)

So, I'll be praying there's nothing wrong and the Doc just wants to talk to your hubby about a diet or something. *G*

Gosh, all the puns going around now. Hope your hubby has gotten a laugh from them seajoy. Glad to hear that it is nothing serious. I agree, why couldn't the doctor just call and say what it was instead of having his nurse call and have you wait all weekend.

Ooh it's almost an epidemic. Mine died Sunday night/Monday morning. Sweet guy came out and within 10 minutes said "well, it's not good news" to which I replied "Do I need the shotgun?"

He looked startled for a moment then realized I was joking about putting the 'fridge out of its misery. *G*

We bought a brand spankin' shiny new one for what it would have cost to fix the old one.

This (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_04639042000P?mv=rr) is the one we got. Since we go to a little Mom 'n Pop shop who don't advertise, we got it for significantly less. *G*

We'd make up our own games when we were bored with the "regular" ones. Tag became Vampire Tag (especially in the early evening.) I'm surprised we didn't poke eyes out, running around with "stakes" in our hands.

If it was daylight and Vampire Tag wasn't an option, we'd play Jaws. The swing set was the ship and one person was Jaws and everyone else would be the sailors. *G*

I used to love to go off by myself into the woods or the creek and play Indian (guess it would be Native American today) or Archeologist or Naturalist. (helped that Ohio is home to some of the greatest fossil deposits in the USA.)

I always told my kids that if they were bored, I had plenty of things for them to do. They didn't fall for that too many times. :D

I also told them that boredom is a choice. There are so many things they can do that if they are bored. then they must have chosen to be bored. OTOH, I would also tell them that boredom is good, that by having slow times allows us to appreciate the times that many things are happening.

My step-daughter (14) stays with us every-other week in the summer and we have the same problem- complaints of boredom. With kids around the neighborhood, hard surfaced streets to bike on, a beautiful park in town, a library, 200+ channels on TV- good grief!

When I was a kid, we lived in the country, miles away from any of my friends, and my closest sibling was 10 years older so I was basically an 'only'. Summers were great! Long walks in the woods with my dog, bike riding (on gravel, even!), watching game shows on TV (but we could only get 2 channels in the summertime), listening to music, making up a magic act, making goofy cassette recordings, and during haying season I had to drive the tractor on the baler. Didn't like that so much, but everything else was fun!

I never expected my parents to entertain me, that's for sure.

They certainly don't. The manufacturers don't want you to fix them, they want you to throw it out and get a new one. That's why refrigerators don't last 40+ years like they used to...

I remember my parents took our old refrigerator to a body shop and had it PAINTED to match the new stove! Ah, yes, good ol' coppertone...

If Legos had been invented when I was a kid I would have had them. We have a small fortune invested in my son's collection, which of course now just sits and gathers dust as he is going to be a soph. in college this fall! I bet he wouldn't let me put them away though. He keeps the big projects together and they sit as decorations in his room.

I remember having I suppose what was a 'pre-cursor' to Legos. They were these plastic red bricks that snapped together, with little plastic windows & doors and then some green cardboard-like stuff you folded and used as a roof to make houses. It was a hand-me down from my brother, I think. Anyway, I spent many many hours building houses out of them.

It was a hand-me down from my brother, I think. Anyway, I spent many many hours building houses out of them.

I had those when I was a kid!

Is anyone watching the Baby Borrowers??? We were watching it last night (til the storms made us stop).

I thought it was really good for my daughter to see how teens can/can't cope with trying to care for infants/toddlers/pre-teens, etc.... To see how just everyday teens, even those who have been around little ones before, really brought some insight for her to know that it's probably better to wait until there is more stability, financially, emotionally, physically, etc....

I had a small set of those when I was a kid, in fact I think they got passed on to my grand daughters

but I spent most of my time outside when I was a kid. About the only time I was inside was by direct order from my Dad. My neighbor's folks had about 20 acres of woods with a couple ponds on it and the river ran along the back side. We spent most of our time either playing on the ponds, building rafts to float on them or splitting firewood for them to heat their home with. We had more fun splitting wood then one could imagine. We made tunnels under the huge stacks of firewood and all kinds of dangeous stuff that would be forbidden now days ;) but we all lived through it.

The greatest times I had as a kid was spending time with my grand parents. I sure miss playing checkers and old maid with GrandMa, and I could sit endlessly and listen to my GranPa's stories.

Oooo, I loved my Lincoln Logs. Those, my Tonka trucks, marbles, barrel of monkeys, bicycle and basketball kept me happily entertained for years. :)

I got a big barrel of Lincoln Logs for Christmas one year. They were from my Grandmother. Mum tried to make me leave it at Gran's house and she wouldn't have any of it. So they came all the way home with me, in my lap. It was a four hundred mile trip, but I didn't trust Mum not to 'lose' them. She was really strict about my picking them up. Got to where I would check the trash when I took it out and to count the pieces when putting them away.

My cousin had a set of Legos with windows and doors as well as green plastic shingles with ridge and valley pieces that could be put together in any kind of house. You could even do dormers on the roof, though it was difficult. I really envied him those... Sadly, my mother put her foot down and adamantly refused to allow me to have Legos of any kind.

My Gran had a huge Erector set. Tom, my eldest brother, used to make me toys with it. We weren't allowed to take it out of the third floor nursery (play room) though.

My brother Blaine had the world's largest collection of Tonka trucks extant. Well, so I thought as a little boy. He used to keep them in a big steel box in the back yard. Blaine told me it was an old coffin so that I wouldn't go near it. I didn't either. Thus, when he gave his trucks away, they were in perfect condition.

The one thing I never got as a child, and always wanted, was a train set. I always wanted a model railroad. Haunting the hobby shops was my favourite occupation when we were in So. Cal. When I was thirteen, I bought some N scale trains and built my first railroad on a framework that would roll under my bed when it was not being used. Dad thought it was really clever and kept Mum off my back about the plaster all over the bedroom.

When I became an adult I switched to G-scale trains and continued my childhood hobby of collecting model trains and (die-cast) cars. I switched because my eldest son wasn't able to put the N or Ho scale trains back on the track. So, we went to a scale he could handle. Anthony and I used to have a lot of fun visiting the toy shops in the local malls and the hobby shops. I miss that time with him. My youngest son carried on for Anthony later. He was a really big fan of Thomas The Tank-Engine. We had some really nice layouts in the back-yard. I could combine my love of gardening and model trains in one place!:D

Yup.

Grew up on a farm. Bale forts, sliding down the hay-fork rope on pulleys, riding sows in the yard (kind of like bull riding, but closer to the ground) .22 rifle, 12 ga. shotgun, shooting just about everything that moved (except people, and livestock) and lots of stuff that didn't. In the winter we played tag. To tag the person you had to hit them with a frozen steer turd. Started driving tractor when I was 6 or 7, and was bailing hay with dad piling loads when I was 8 (we did custom baling).

Never saw a carbide cannon until recently, but we built black powder cannons out of pipe with welded breech plugs. Had one we mounted on an old lawn-mower and used the spark plug for ignition. Dad's cousin was a blacksmith, and he helped us (kept an eye on us). One we built was a two inch bore, and we were able to fire a 1/2 X 3" bolt right through an old Plymouth car! It went in one door, and out the other... sideways.

A lot more fun than nintendo or PS2.

One kid just had to have some so I traded him a half gross for some girly magazines. He said that he had found them under his dad's mattress. At that age I didn't really know what the magazines were all about but I didn't get to find out because mom found them and I had to go to the pastor and "have a talk". Didn't really know what he was talking about.

Hey... I can see 'em now too! I was beginning to think the new owners thought Christianity was like Baskin and Robbins. Still, even with that, I really would like to know if I'm getting Spumoni with my Pecan Praline 'N Creme.;)

Does anyone else here have Yahoo for their mail server? If so, are you having to deal with that STUPID security system they have in place now? It takes me, sometimes, five or six tries each time I reply to, or send, mail. What a pain in the BU... um, ah,:sorry: backside. My mailbox is so secure even I can't use it!

I have a Yahoo ID for groups and such but I don't know if that means I have an email account with them. Two or three years ago I started using GMail when it was in it's beta testing period and have been extremely satisfied with that.

Maybe one day. When my wife and I finally realize our true calling and become members of the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers also known as Vader's Fist. For anyone who's wondering how to tell the men from the women, see below. ^_^

I'm 10 items shy of having 101 items on my list...and I'm drawing a blank as to how to fill those.

Of course, it could just be apathy. Yeah. I think that's it.

I had an early wakey-wakey this morning, around 3am, by a bruin. He wanted the trash in the can outside my R.V. I hung a windchime over the can because the goats like to get in it too. So here I throw the door open and armed with a broom call out, "Get outta that can Matilda!" When what to my wondering eyes should appear but Smokey the Bear and Boo Boo too. Yikes!! "Bonne appitite fellas," I called out and slammed the door. They kept prowling around the coach so I started the motor and flashed the lights on and off. That convinced them it wasn't a nice place and they left. Whew!

Grrr...I went to the movies today with my brother, and he managed to lose his cell phone. We went back there to look for it and didn't find it, although we may have missed it if it got pushed into a corner (doesn't help his phone is sleek and black). We'll go back again tomorrow and see if it's turned up, but if not, my parents are not going to be happy...

Bears!:waaah::eek::scratch:I'm glad I just had raccoons instead of bears go through my trash can night before last. I had the trash can locked down with bungee cords and tied to the outside cabin wall and they still got into it. Little thieves!

Bears!:waaah::eek::scratch:

God's creatures. A fellow I know who raises beef cattle on the Bruce Peninsula has had a lot of fun with bears. The home farm, where his elderly mom lives is where he stores all of his wrapped hay silage bales. Bears seem to sense the the sweet tasty forage, seek it out, tear into the plastic and gut-up. She has a great view of the rows of silage from her back door and kitchen window. She keeps a .303 by the door, and it is said that the local MNR has pre-signed nuisance permits with her name already on them. (Here in Ontario you can get a nuisance permit after the smoke clears).

The sad part of the story explains the free and easy attitude towards nuisance permits... We have a large Provincial Park called Algonquin. Nuisance bears are live trapped by the MNR, and moved "away from people" and re-released to "exist in nature". This keeps the those who hug trees, and personify animals happy. In reality these bears are released in the vicinity of Lion's Head, Ontario because there are lots of farmers and aboriginals who will do their dirty work for them, out of the public eye. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm all in favor of managing wildlife, controlled hunts etc. (even participated in a few myself) What troubles me is the cost to us poor tax payers involved in "keeping up appearances. Mark

Eek! Glad they weren't in attack mode.

We have quite a few black bear visitations at the cabin in New Mexico and they don't like being told "no", but they aren't aggressive for the most part. What's odd is that there have been a few sightings of bears near residential areas here. We know there are black bears this far south, but they tend to stay far away from humans. Better a black bear in my yard than a mountain lion, but I'm perfectly content to have the occasional deer encounter in my front yard. :P

Glad I don't have to deal with bears here, just raccoons, skunks, armadillo's that dig holes in the yard at night, and other little critters.
