The author of the Study of Ancient Hebrew site is pushing his own pet theory that has no scholarly acceptance. Be advised.

If you really want to learn Biblical Hebrew (rather than just memorize a few phrases) and don't want to spend the money to buy a good textbook, here is an old textbook available free online:

Shalom all,

I personally have been using the series below. What makes it awesome is that it's not only a book, it also is mpeg videos. There are 17 lessons (including one for those that don't even know the alef beis) with 17 written shiurim to correspond to the lessons. What's great about this is that it's more like a classroom setting. You have the text in front of you but you get to listen to the Rabbi expound and explain on what's written. It's not like using a tape because it's easy to get distracted with that. Hebrew is far too dificult to learn by yourself in a book.

This particular video series starts off fast. You'll learn all the grammer rules that there are and in the end you'll be speaking Hebrew like few do. I think it's an incredible series and recommend it to you. Definately worth the price. There is also a bonus to this series. Each lesson has a 5 minute tour of Israel before each shiur. So each half hour class has a 5 minute and 25 minutes worth of learning (Hebrew). A most excellent series.

Just FYI, No, I do not work for pirchei Shoshanim or Rabbi Shalom Gold nor do I have any connections with them. I was just one that bought the series and am extremely pleased with it! Scroll down to the bottom of the page on the left hand side there is a sample video you can watch.

Be Well,
Mikha'el

For all that are interested, there is another sample that you should watch before you watch the first one I posted. This one has an option for those that are on low speed dial up or for high speed access. You can click on the appropriate link below.

Zayit, thank you for those sites, I'll definitly be checking them out.

Mikha'el, thank you for your review of that series. I had been thinking about getting these for a couple of months, but wanted to make sure it was worth the money.

Those who need to work on their vocabulary might find the following useful:

There is also a (very) brief description of Hebrew grammar there.
