View Full Version : Please Shut Down CF till things are fixed

A New Dawn

This is really getting to be ridiculous. Just shut down CF till the bugs are worked out like they did 2 years ago after the major upgrades. Between posts being displaced (or worse, disappearing completely into cyberspace), reps being stolen from us, the time being off (which is probably causing a large majority of the problems), having to submit posts 3 or 4 times before it is accepted, keep getting logged out, unable to access threads (and who knows how many other problems), it is almost impossible to participate in discussions or fellowship here.

Please put us out of our misery and shut CF down till everything is taken care of!

I sadly agree. Maybe with the site down, it might be easier for the techs to fix things.

This is a huge problem. I see there are almost 3000 members online?? Obviously, we must be overextended on that. I'm wondering why people are not avoiding this forum altogether. After all, there are other forums in better operating condition at the moment.

I agree with you. They should of done it on a test server first then brought it to the production server.
Thanks,

Actually, given that the problems stem from the database, it's only logical that the techs shut down the site until it's fixed. Until they do so, they're either working on the active forum, or they're working on a backup copy of the forum. Either way, they won't be able to make much progress. If they know what the problem is already, it'd be a lot easier to work on a static database.

Thanks for the INFO.

What's the chance of the whole thing crashing like it did in 2003?

Will all of the out of order posts be resequenced?

not sure where this is going to wind up on the thread.

But I know from my job experience that it is easier to work on a static database than from copies of an active database.

mnphysicist....I appreciate all that you do to keep the site a safe friendly place to fellowship. It is just that the the ways things are right now, it is almost impossible to fellowship with anyone.

Keeping CF, it's members and staff in prayer. :prayer:

Not to be a pain, but...

How much of the site being up and only half-functional has to do with the "monetizing" of the forums, and the agreements with the advertisers?

P.S.: It's next to impossible to fix a database while "hot". Take it down!

This seems like a catch 22 here. Waiting for Cf to be fixed before proceeding ??
Wouldn't it be better to try to fix some of these bugs in the meantime so we can still post halfways normally ??

I have to say I agree with most everyone here too.
Best thing really is to shut the servers down, fix the problems, and reboot when they will function properly.
The server crash 2 years ago seems minor compared to whats going on now. :sigh:

trust me. Staff (includes LeeD) knows how everyone feels, because staff (includes LeeD) have the same issues. No one is insulated from this situation.

There are foundational bugs that need fixed before we can think about crossing over with CF2. And I believe it's the combination of server issues/foundational bugs that are causing the problems we are seeing. Techs are working on it, and I believe extra help was hired to try and fix this.

Please be patience, and pray for the Tech team. It's not been easy for them with all the problems that occur unexpectedly.

Haven't been spending much time in CF at the moment due to the bugs, cannot post without problems, cannot bless, blesses goes elseware, cannot delete pms easily-but have found a way around-long and slow, its just so frustrating and i don't have site support status now.

I keep checking back and occassionly posting, but I'm at the point, with the amount of bugs yet to be the fix, i don't want to even bother hanging around.

I love this site so much.

I heartily agree the place should be closed until repairs are complete. This current situation is as sensible as trying to fix a tire while the car is speeding down the road.

For the past few weeks, the ONLY time I come here is to look for announcements as to the status of repairs and upgrades. I've deleted my bookmark, I've advised people I know to not bother coming here, and if the foolishness continues I'll request my account be purged so I'm not even "tempted" to come here.

Wouldn't it be easier to shut down the site for a few days and do the upgrade? I've worked with/around computers for years, you just don't leave something up and running when there are this many problems in it. Just my .02, fwiw.

Please, please, please shut this place down and do the necessary work. Trying to do anything here at the moment is very frustrating.

Caring is a verb. If the appropriate upper level staff show that they care then it's a reality. If they don't, they don't. Acts of caring should filter down through the lower level staff with management setting the examples.

I am afraid if the forum is shut down that all the pets will die in days. I am a pet worker and have to feed them daily.

If I were not a pet worker and didn't have some obligations here I would just stay away until it is fixed.

I agree with those who have said to shut the site down until it gets fixed. I have avoided the site for the past few days because it's been so slow. I even removed it as my Firefox home page. Wouldn't it be easier to repair the site while it is shut down, instead to try and repair it while it's still up and active?
I've been donating more money to CF recently, but won't donate any more until all the bugs are worked out.

The staff is trying to post & report
I've seen a few postings in different threads.
The problem is
1) They're having the same problems as us logging in & posting
2) Recoding the site from custom code is a major pain.(If you ever tried to work on someone else's code you'd know this)

Communication is getting better about the problems in the forum and there's been an increase in speed.

It really would have been easier for them to shut the forum down during the upgrade and they wouldn't have had as much work. But they didn't so we could still have a place to congregate.

Not sure what else was turned off, but some of the resources have been freed to devote to process speed now.
