In West Virginia, our Annual Conference is meeting this week. I was just wondering if this was the same time other conferences met or if we were special? ;)

Have any of you been to your Annual Conference? If so, what did you think about it? What did you like best? What did you like least?

The one for our district was last weekend (Wednesday-Saturday). I haven't been to one, though I might like to go sometime.

We get an awesome report of what happened from our delegate to the conference though. This year was a great message about how we need to focus more on the Bible. Which was PERFECT for what our church is going through at the moment.

The North Georgia Annual Conference is next week. I won't be at this one, as I had already scheduled a week at the beach -- when the choice was between annual conference and laying on the beach, the beach won.

I will be at our annual conference next year, though.

I've been to Annual Conference. The sessions can be long but it is well worth it to go. The worship services are just awesome and you get to see alot of old friends and make some new ones. Since I live just 25 minutes from Buckhannon, I might try to get up early and go to the Saturday worship service.

So, I guess they are at different times than. I have never been to ours. I was asked to be the alternate delegate this year and ended up not having to go.

kelco, I didn't know you lived in WV! If you are that close to Buckhannon, I am wondering if your DS just happens to be Clifford Schell?

Hey wvmtnkid. I live in Elkins. And yep our DS is Clifford Schell. I've only met him once or twice. When our previous pastor was away for a while he did a couple of services for us and he is a wonderful preacher.

If you ever get a chance, going to conference is fun. Especially the book sale. Since I started a new job I had to pass up the opportunity to go this year. And I overslept today and did not get down for the Worship Service. Oh well, mabey next year.

Peace,
Kelly

It is a small world! Clifford was my pastor for 14 years and is basically my adopted father. (Not legally, but close enough!) I usually try to visit him and his wife several times a year.

This is so cool! :D

Yeah it is pretty awesome!! I've been on CF since the begining and have never talked with anyone from WV. If you're ever in this neck of the woods let me know. It would be fun to meet someone I've talked to online.

Our delegate said things went well this year, although there were some budget cuts and I think they targeted missions. Anyway our Pastor will be able to come back this year and everyone is happy.

Peace

Kelly

Our Annual Conference for Eastern North Carolina was earlier this week as well. Our minister and a youth group member both went. I heard it was great and we passed a few resolutions like boycotting Tacobell because they buy their tomatoes from farms that pay immigrants less than minimum wage. There was something similar except it was dealing with pickles but that resolution wasn't passed. Go figure...

The Iowa annual conferance was this past weekend and I went to visit one day Saturday. This was my first Annual conferance and it was such a learning experiance. THe morning message was about Communion and that we (UMC) should go back to taking it every week (powerful message). The music was spectacular. I saw a commissioning and retirment cermony. Yes even the legislative stuff was interesting. THe worse part about it was the desision of the Iowa annual conferance to put a moritorium on any descicions about homosexualtiy for two years dduring such time at annual connfereence we will have speakers and such on the subject. I for one think it is time we take a stand for or aganst this subject.

Kelly-the next time I am in the area, I'll let you know! Maybe we can arrange a visit. :)

I am anxious to get our report back from Conference. Last year the big news was that we had to start renovating some of our parsonages to get them up to new standards. This year I am pretty sure the homosexual debate was a charged subject. Should be interesting to find out.

Hey, finally something I can contribute in the Wesley's Parish forum! The deal with pickles is Mount Olive; there was a big stink about it in the Episcopal Church diocesan meetings a while back. Essentially, they're trying to convince the Mount Olive Pickle Co. to buy cucumbers only from farms that pay their workers a decent wage, by organizing boycotts and such. Mount Olive corporate take on it is that they aren't responsible for what their suppliers do.
