My mom recently lent me the Philokalia, I thought it was sayings of the early fathers, but this one is Philokalia: New and selected poems by Scott Cairns. I don't feel like waiting an hour for my break to call home and ask my mom about it. I'm confused now, is this the one I heard about, or another one?

nope -- not the one :)

translated by Palmer, Sherrard, and Ware

(the last being Bishop Kallistos Ware)

it is published in 4 volumes by Faber & Faber

Just a side note, I would recommend reading The Way of a PIlgrim & The Pilgrim Continues His Way (isbn # 1-880364-12-3) as a primer for the Philokalia. If you already have read it, then great.

Actually my mom is going to give me(I think) one of those two... anyways I know it has pilgrim in the name lol. If it's not that one I'll look it up.

Sometimes the Pilgrim is published as 2 books or combined as 1. The isbn # edition I listed is combined and issued by New Sarov Press & a dual edition exists elsewhere. BTW, if you have ever heard of a novel by J.D. Salinger (Catcher in the Rye) called "Franny and Zooey" the Way of a PIlgrim etc. and the Jesus Prayer are a portion of an underlying theme of a spiritual crisis Franny experiences (because she is willing to syncretize Christian prayer w/ other belief system meditations etc.). Just thought I'd add a little trivia. One more side note, I found reading the writings of St Maximos the Confessor in vol. 2 of the Philokalia as a good starting point.

Sorry for the confusion. That's my fifth collection of poetry, published in 2002. I hope you're able to get your hands on the real thing. The four volumes are available, but you might find a more reader-friendly introduction in a selection of excerpts called _The Art of Prayer_, also edited by Bishop Kallistos.

I read (most) of it last spring, and thought it was poetic, whether it was meant that way or not.:)

Hehe, don't worry about it. My mom lent me a 1992 copy edited by K. Ware that she had in her stash of books.
