This past weekend, my church, St. Michael's Antiochian Church in Greensburg PA hosted an Outreach event. We had Paul Finley, who is the executive director of Antiochian Village come and talk about icons. The talk, Icons... not Idols (http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=4984242884661026877&hl=en), was wonderful. It is a great introduction to why the Orthodox Church uses icons in their worship, as well as the Biblical foundation for iconography. But even for people that know all about the subject, it was incredibly edifying. We laughed, we cried, and we all appreciate icons a little more for having heard him speak. It's about 2 hours long, and you can find the same talk on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/StMichaelsGreensburg) broken into 10 minute chunks. So click and enjoy.
Just a couple programming notes, at the beginning, there is a buzzing sound which was our pepsi machine. We got it unplugged as quick as we could so don't worry that it continues throughout. Also we were having a Red Cross Blood Drive that day in case anyone wonders about Paul's joke at the beginning of the talk. The second half of the talk takes place in the church as opposed to the social hall, and for the first 20 minutes or so Paul was in and out of the shot because I was busy taking still pictures and wasn't thinking about how much he was moving around once he had a lapel mic. So the really bad cinematography can be blamed on me. But I would encourage everyone to watch and listen.
