So the Shul I've been attending, unaffiliated but leans reconstructionist, is talking about affiliating--with Reform! There is apparently a recently unemployed reform rabbi who has moved to the area that they are trying to woo.

This leaves only the Chabadniks who don't have regular services (at least none that I've ever been able to find out about--and believe me I've tried).

Oy, what to do. What can be done.

Ack! Run for the hills!
I guess one option is to keep after Chabad-find out where
and when the shluchim daven and ask to be included.
Two, give the Reform rabbi a chance. Some Reform are
starting to become more traditional; see where he falls
in relationship to what you believe.
Three, move :)

Run to Chab"d as quickly as possible. Bug the Rabbi as much as you need to. 3 years ago, my Rabbi was only having services on Fri. nights. Now we do shacharis, mincha, and maariv on Shabbos; and we do shacharis on Yom Rishon.

LOL, I am so conditioned to only male rabbis, I don't think of
"she" when I hear "rabbi"...

Yochanan I had service with a female Rabbi and Cantor while in the hospital, it wasn't as bad as I thought, give it a go, then decide.

I have to concur with Lulav. Give this person, who felt a calling from God to be a teacher, a try.

Oh, sure. That was the second option I suggest to Joseph, as
long as her theology aligns with his.

I have no clue how I didn't see your post.

I amend to say I agree with both Chava and Lulav. :)

Well, seeing that this thread has really nothing to do with MJism, Christianity or the Hebraic root of the ancient Apostolic Church....

I'd like the opportunity to make it even more ridiculous.

My odd opinion: go Orthodox, avoid the Chasids. They're great people but Abraham did not write the Sefer Yetzirah. :)

Now, all we need is a Conservative to chip in or a Calvinist to tell you you're going to fry anyway and we've pretty much got all angles covered.

Or...should we just move the thread? :)

The schul already leans *reconstructionist* and you're worried about it leaning towards reform?????

well, I attended there because it was very focused on Tzedakah and community involvement. Had lots of wonderful volunteering oportunities.

The whole affiliation thing is part of a larger strategic planning process that is also talking about opening up a homeless shelter.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Contra, no regular Orthodox presence in the area. When I say Galut, I mean Galut.

I wonder if Chabad even has enough people for a regular Shabbos services. They have a large presence in another city about an hour away. I wonder if the Rabbi and his family go there?

Anyways, prayers would be appreciated as I'm sure this is not going to be an easy process.
