What are your churches doing for VBS this year? Just about every church in our area is doing Group's Lava Lava Island. It's unfortunate that there isn't more variety. I remember when my kids were little I had them going to at least 2 or 3 VBSs per summer.
Anyway--what programs have you used, do you like, etc.....R

We have always looked to the Augsburg Fortress for our material. However, this year it is different, we are instead doing a "Sunday School Power-Up" which will be all day Saturday, before rally Sunday, and will be focused on planting the children for the regular sunday school year.
We are doing this because we couldn't really get anyone to head up the VBS as normal. I guess you just have to say "That's my congregation" :D . We have the 160 people who come to church stay an hour and drive off across town. I wish we had more neighborhood connections.

AAAGGGGHHHH!!! "If we are the Body, why aren't...."
I am so sorry, James. :sigh:

I like that song. It is ok, we are making headway. Hopefully by next pentecost I can get some sort of neighborhood BBQ or something to happen at the Church.

I don't know what we're using this year. We have a community VBS. We team up with a few other congregations. It won't be hosted at our church this year. Last year it was Light House Kids or something like that.
James, look to your synod for ideas. We had a block party a few years ago. I could mail some details to you next fall when you get a school address back. You have to delegate, and this is a good agenda for the Evangelism (outreach) team. CTIM provides great inspiration for these things.

Right, a job for the Evangelism team :sorry: , .... well you see, we kinda don't have one, but I think it is an excellent idea. Evangelism has never been my congregations strong point. They are really good at Vocation though, mission is another story ;). Sometimes I just don't know what to do with them, but I love them all dearly. I am taking it upon myself to make waves, they've grown to comfortable :D.

James, don't lose your optimism. It's a very endearing quality. I have no doubt God has you in that church for a reason. He just may use you to wake up the rest of 'em! :D
Evangelism does not come easy. Sometimes I think that is where satan does his best work (at preventing it). Keep praying for your congregation. Pray that they will be compelled to have a heart for the lost. If you know a few others who feel as you do, ask them to pray as well. Then--watch what God does! :D
Peace

LOL
My congregation has Evangelism, but we use it sparingly, like it might run out or something.
Take you ideas to the church council. Run it up the flagpole and see if they salute it.

That's exactly what my church is doing also. We pair up with two or three other churches in the community and do it together.
Being almost 18, I'm too old for VBS. ;)
However, the high school youth at my church helps run the program during the summer.
Unfortunitly, I have never done it, and with so many things going on for me this summer, I don't think I can do it this summer either. :( It's a shame, because my one friend says it is lots of fun and the kids are great.
Well then again she is the one who wants to be an elementary school teacher. :) So yeah. :)

^_^ Thank you for the best laugh I had all day.
Apparently Barna (is that the name) did a survey and only 2% of those claiming to be evangelical actually share their faith...so it isn't just a Lutheran problem.
:prayer: Oh, dear Father, please send the overwhelming fire of your Holy Spirit to your Church. Give us the courage and strength to boldly and winsomely share our faith with those who are lost and need to come to repentence and faith in Christ. Amen.
Peace
