To help the MODS out, could we use this thread for whatever Political, except for the 2008 election, which has its own thread?

Do you mean to create another subforum for politics & keep St Justin's corner to more theological issues?

Maybe we could have a subforum just for Spyridon's threads. ;)

I guess if it came to that it by circumstance. Yikes, but nothing seemingly unethical about it. There have been theological exchanges also in St Justin's corner & it seems like it should be kept for that & despite some quirks, none of those seem to have spun out of control.

In all seriousness, I don't think it would be a bad idea to split the Theological St Justin's corner from a yet to be named political/secular topics debate subforum. We don't want to confuse guests into thinking that the politics are what Orthodoxy is all about.
That's why I made my joke above. If someone sees a dozen or more Spyridon political threads, and two or three other threads in the Orthodox debate area, what are they to think about the Orthodox faith?

I agree & it seems like a coordination issue not to stifle any exchange but just regulate to an appropriate category.

Agreed!
I move to create a political / secular debate subforum on the same level as St. Justin Martyr's Corner and St. Athanasius Chapel.
Does anyone second the motion?
.
:D As if this were run by Robert's Rules!!! :P

No, I mean two threads on Politics in this forum and that's it. All political comments that are general go in the Politics Anything thread (this one), and all having to do with the 2008 Election, post in that thread that's on this forum instead of having new threads about every little political subject that comes up.

The problem with that is that it keeps the discussion quite limited and can be confusing over time where, in one thread, there will soon be 6 different (at least) topics being discussed. I think a separate subforum would be great. It sounds absurd, a subforum of a subforum, but might make St Justin's corner more useful and not drive out others.
I think it's impossible in a politically charged time like this, to expect people not to post about politics, but we can at least separate the wheat from the schaff (I am referring to topics, not the people :))
We could actually call it "Pundints corner" (spelling?), not give it any religious undertone so as to put politics in its rightful unimportant position (the basement of the basement). And this is coming from someone who likes to discuss politics as much as the next guy (... well, except Spyridon lol).
But keeping it to one thread won't work. People will just start other threads... as we can see.

It works fine in the other message board I go on. The Political Pub, you talk about anything political, and it ranges from current political news, to former presidents, to talk radio, to taxes, etc. The 2008 Election thread has everything to do with this upcoming election, meaning the candidates, those currently running, those who did run, any current news on the candidates, the electoral process, etc. It works great, really. :D
But I also see what you all are saying, and it may be better to have it separated from the religious discussions. The message board I visit other than this one and my own does have a mixed bag of topics, as it's an "off-topics" forum. So, of course, it makes more sense there.
