At the time of the 777 changes and the Wiki debate the ND membership wanted a Debate subform. The staff there has changed greatly since then and I am being asked what is the status of this. I have looked through this list but see nothing, so I will ask.

Can we get a debate sub-forum that will allow for more relaxed posting rules than the main forum.?

I wonder if more relaxed rules would cause problems.

I think the opportunities to have honest and open debate would outweigh any problems it would bring, and it would allow us to move some very fruitful discussions to an area where they can continue while not causing discord in the main forum.

My feeling is that, with proper moderation by us, this could be a boon to the ND main forum in the form of fellowship visits from members coming to debate. That is the hope of the membership and staff in ND.

That makes sense.

Are others in agreement with your suggestion? (It's not required that others must agree, I'm just wondering).

Also, would you work on the guidelines?

Edited:

I notice there is a denomination formal debate area. That's not what you're talking about, is that correct?

Also, do you think we could keep that sub-forum and maybe rename to Congregation Debate, or would that cause more problems. :)

This first came up during the 777 wiki period and we are still being asked by regular participants that would like to be able to explore biblical issues and debate them with other believers without the teaching/debate restrictions imposed in the main form, not a formal debate as the DFD area is.

I would and others on staff have indicated to me that they would be willing to.

As to the formal debate area I think that the name change to some more inclusive term such as Congregation Debate could bring more activity to that area with out introducing more problems, but would want to talk to DeaconDean and Jim47 as they mod there.

Edited to add

The guidelines would be somewhat along the lines and the same idea as the Discussion and Debate sub forum of SDA.

I think this sub-forum would be a great idea for opening up debate and discussion in ND while still retaining the area where only members can debate for those who are worried about it being too much of a free-for-all.

I agree.

Many have asked for a sub-forum where ND can openly have theological discussion/debate with denom members and perhaps other members who do not fit the criteria of the main ND forum FSGs.

We have taken numerous polls in the last year. Some are against a debate forum, but the majority were for it. Myself I would support it fully. I think guidelines should be simple and the only rule that should be over looked is that its not required to be an ND church member. In other words, if you believe in the balance of their SOFs then you would be allowed light debate and discussion, but I also agree that heated debate would not be allowed. Thats what we have GT for, and not everyone wants to post in GT, thus the need for this subforum for debate.

Okay, so you want this as a sub-forum inside the ND forum? Am I understanding correctly?
