I did an interesting dictionary word study and historical study on the idea of the King-Servant relationship that we have with Our Lord Jesus Christ.

I think many people these days miss out on this idea and have trouble understanding it, as we are in a democracy (most of us) and have the right to question and belittle our leaders as much as we want, with no obligations to serve or honor them.

Paul often referred to himself as a "bond-servant" or a "slave" of Christ.

Let's flesh this out a little and examine our TRUE place in the Universe in comparison to God. Have we not become so man-centered that we've forgotten our role? :sigh:

King: n. A male sovereign; ruler of a kingdom.
sovereign: One that exercises supreme, permanent authority.
ruler: One that rules or governs over something.
kingdom: A realm or sphere in which one thing is dominant.

Bond-servant: A person obligated to service without wages.

Slave: 1. One bound in servitude as the property of a person or household; 2. A machine or component controlled by another machine or component. ( this one is my favorite ;) )

So, how do you feel now? Big and mighty? Ruler of your own life?

We owe God EVERYTHING. Let us never forget this! We are indebted to His service as a result of our calling into His saving Grace.

The LORD gives. The LORD takes away.
Blessed be the name of the LORD.

Christ's Kingship can be explained with the following:

1) He is Lord of our lives. We submit to His authority and leadership in all things.

2) In the past a King represented the people. They derived their identity from their king. As Christians we also derive our identity from our King.

I like those two points, Knight. :)
