I know of some former LCMS people who have joined a CLC congregation. The told me it's more conservative, but that is all I know.

I'm not aware of any members who visit here.

Their website http://www.clclutheran.org/ gives a lot of the history and how they see the differences.

They are a very small church body that split from the WELS when we weren't fast enough in our split from the LCMS.

I personally think WELS waited too long before splitting from Missouri.

I can go either way on that. They were trying to give grace, to their credit, but I also think they waited too long. I think there were lots of people hoping and praying that the split wouldn't happen.

Maybe only the EOs will be able to communicate with us...you know, they can pray to the dead?

Doesn't sound like a horrible idea to me..Perhaps it would be easier for a synod to work properly and maybe even better if it is a small synod.
Then all the small synods could co operate in things like World Missions etc.

I would hate to think what would happen if any synod lost Minnesota. A bastion of Lutherandom.

ELS has around 25,000 souls. Small enough for you? ;)

All the small synods will never cooperate. When you get ones like the Church of the Lutheran Confession where their basis for existance is that their parent groups were too unionistic and such you just aren't going to see them join in a lot of cooperative activities. Not for the first 75 years anyway.

Is it CLC that doesn't want their people to even have anything to do with Thrivent - because Thrivent gives $ to all the Lutheran churches?

That could be...I really don't know. My husband has a huge problem with Thrivent because of their whole business schtick, but since it's his personal problem he doesn't keep the church from getting Thrivent dollars. Our church needs all the help it can get.

I believe they hold that position.

Marv

Yep, they believe being a member of Thrivent promotes false teaching since Thrivent gives money and resources to false teachers.

I think that in a lot of instances Lutherans are really hung up on minutia.

I don't know what my opinion is about this..I can see where both sides are coming from.

AAL was not exclusively LCMS. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans was created by the merger of AAL and Lutheran Brotherhood.

We have several members of our congregations that had AAL (including me)- all you had to be was Lutheran- didn't matter which Synod. We also had Lutheran Brotherhood people - it was nice, before the merger because we got $ for our church from both.

Yeah, it's really not an issue with me. Maybe they are right, and maybe it doesn't matter. There are so many 'real' issues to deal with - like Bible inerrancy, etc- this one is pretty minor. I guess for me it boils down to: does being a member of Thrivent weaken my faith? no

Some could argue that by providing $ to churches that teach false doctrine, they are aiding in destroying other's faith - but my opinion on that is, those churches will teach what they teach whether or not they get $ from Thrivent. In addition, Thrivent also helps the churches who DO teach the truth as well.
