Hi folks! Just a fellow Wesleyan from the Pentecostal branch dropping in to say hi! Yep, that's right, in case you didn't know, Assemblies of God is essentially Wesleyan in origin and doctrine, though also Pentecostal.

Anyway, much love for my Wesleyan brothers and sisters! I'll come by and visit from time to time.

Hmmmmm.... can you tell me more about the connection? I went to United Methodist and Assembly of God Churches while growing up, but never really thought about any similarities or differences.

Sure, such as I have anyway. :)

Some of the charismatic or pentecostal churches such as the Pentecostal Holiness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentecostalism) Church and the Assemblies of God (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assemblies_of_God) also have roots in or draw from Wesleyan thought.

That's all on the historical connection. I'll have to do some research to go much into current doctrinal similarities and differences.

Hi Izdaari! Good to greet a Wesleyan cousin!!

Vicki, the Assemblies didn't branch off from the Methodist Church, but their theology was formed in the Holiness movement of the late 1800s that had its starts within the Methodist Episcopal Church and then developed a life of its own as it caught fire across the country just before the turn of the century. Methodists of the early 20th century went on to practice a social gospel as a result of the movement, but other groups developed in other ways. The Assemblies of God, the Nazarenes, even the Church of God and charismatic Pentecostal churches all have at least some roots in some form of late 19th century Methodism.
