I just saw the "Passion of the Christ" yesterday (yeah, i know I am a bit late but I live out in the country) and was totally emotionally stressed.
From the first 5 minutes right through to the end, I just bawled.
When if finished I couldn't move out of my seat, i was just speechless.
Then for half an hour afterwards I was still bawling!!
ummm.....this is not like me at all to be so affected by a movie, sure I get teary in some of them but when I couldn't move from my seat at the end, I knew i was really affected.
So I am interested to know, did any of you who have seen this movie, experience anything similar?

I did the same thing myself. My dh said I was shaking and sobbing when the movie ended and I didn't move until the end of the credits. I was overwhelmed by God's love for me.

I have not seen it. I could not go though all that violence. I have seen enough in my life to have the same effect.
I think that it has emotially effected some people like yourself, but I have yet to see a big revival from it. That is what I was hoing for. That is what this counrty needs.....a BIG REVIVAL!
AMEN?

After seeing the movie, I had and still have a terrible sense of guilt. Guilt that it (personally) is all my fault that Jesus had to suffer and die in the way that he did and so now I am confused....

if I have been justified and made new by my belief in Christ and that means my sins are forgiven, does that also take away my guilt for His death?

So should I feel happy or sad that Jesus died in my place?

Yes, your guilt has been washed away with your sin through the blood of Jesus. There's no need to feel guilty about it. It is sad that Jesus had to give up his life for our sins, but that wasn't a surprise to him. He knew it all along and willingly gave it up as an atonement for our sins. So in one way, it is sad, but in another way it's amazing and wonderful! Without that sacrifice, we could have no rightstanding with God.

I had a similar experience the first time I saw it. I started crying in the Gethsemane scene. Then I totally lost it when Peter denied Jesus, and again during the scourgings, and again when Mary met Jesus on the Via Dolorosa. And again and again and again.....
I am glad that Mel included flashback scenes during the film, otherwise I would have flooded the theater.

So should I feel happy or sad that Jesus died in my place? We are still guilty of his death, but we have been forgiven. Like any sin you commit, when you are forgiven it does not mean that you never sinned - you cant change the past. All of us shares in the responsibility of killing Christ. But do not dwell on this guilt. Jesus died for you before you were even born. After I saw this film I had the same conflicting emotions: Happy that Christ came to redeem me, upset that I am to blame for His suffering. How can this be reconciled? By trying to imagine the IMMENSE LOVE God has for us that he would do something like this. It goes back to John 3:16 - for God so loved the world. His undending love for us is beyond our wildest imagination. So while we all are partly responsible (I do not think that it was "all your fault" just a part) - realize that Jesus did not have to do this, and He only did it because of how much He loves you. And that love will overcome any bad feelings of guilt.

Most of who I know were speechless, and some cried.
