Okay my ELCA church is having this graduation ceremony/ coming out party for all of the seniors this year. Our parents and the pastor are supposed to present us not as Children in Christ but as Adults in Christ.

Has anyone heard of this? It is really bothering some of my non-Lutheran friends because they believe that we will always be a Child in Christ.

(RANT: The ceremony is the morning after my senior prom! Can I really look cute and be awake by 10:45 the next morning?)

Hmm, that would kind of bother me too... Good thing I skipped graduation from high school.

Seriously though, that's weird. Aren't we supposed to be full adult members of the church at confirmation? And we're always children in Christ. Maybe you can quickly purchase some non-refundable tickets to an exotic location and respectfully decline to attend. That's what I always do.

Never heard of it. Our town has a Baccalaureate service. It is hosted by a different church each year.
