Hi guys,

I'd like a recommendation on a book of history and theology of Baptists. It could even go as far back as the Early Church, it just depends. I want something easy to read, narrative form preferably.

Has anyone read anything they'd like to recommend?...

Thanks,

Michael

I have a Bpatist History workbook.
A work text History of the Baptized Believers from the Time of Christ to the 20th Century by James Beller.
I just started getting into it. It seems pretty easy to read.

I'd recommend "Trail of Blood - The Story of the Baptists".

It should be available from several places.

Also, "The Pilgrim Church" by E.H. Broadbent is an excellent resource.

btw- got your PM... I'll get back to you via PM... sorry for the delay! :)

Here's a link to a site with the Trail of Blood pamphlet plus a nice intro. Some good quotes there that I had not seen before. It's humbling to see the amount of Baptist blood shed for the gospel's sake.

I still like Broadbent's "The Pilgrim Church". It's a longer treatment and connects the histories of born-again groups (most of whom were persecuted mercilessly... probably by my anscestors!) from the early church to the 20th century (or late 19th)?

As Sir Robert Anderson wrote, we should never forget the price paid by countless thousands for things we take for granted... the Bible in our hands... the Bible in our tongue... the freedom of conscience... the finished work of Christ... etc. May we never compromise His eternal truths or the memories of these brave men and women for temporal gain or comfort.

On that note, I, of course, recommend "Foxe's Book of Martyrs."

You might enjoy "The Reformers and their Stepchildren (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0802847803/qid=1084893572/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/102-2459040-5894555?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)"
