You reminded me that I still have to finish The Brothers Karamzov. I only got through the first few chapters before I had to return the book. Maybe that will be my next book CD for our next driving trip.
Great! Let's talk about it when you finish the book.
Since I can't really make out what is in the picture, and I don't know the context of the character Crazy Liz or St. Xenia, I'll say I like it. :)
Here (http://www.serfes.org/lives/stxeniaofpetersburg.htm) is the website where I got the icon, which also has a couple of poems and biographical sketches. The only things she has in common with Crazy Liz in TBK are that they are both Russian and Crazy Liz is suspected by some as possibly being a Fool for Christ,a category of saints that Russians particularly revere, which causes many of them to be particularly kind to people who are mentally ill. Father Zossima and Prince Mishkin are other Dostoevsky characters that have some other characteristics of Fools for Christ.
A modern woman often called a Fool for Christ was Dorothy Day.

Gal 4:16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

HI everyone! thought I would check back in on this thread (my favorite).
SO. CA. been down there 3 times. You in the valley??
Nope. Although "the valley" can actually mean several different places, depending on where you are. I lived the first 25 years of my life in the San Joaquin Valley. In the L.A. area, "the valley" usually means the San Fernando Valley, north of downtown L.A. I live south of there, almost in Orange County.
Would someone please explain the "blessings" and "reputations" to me. I am not sure I understand it. Newbie.
I think you've got blessings figured out. You get them when you post or when people give them to you, and you can give them away. there are other things you can do, like bank them, use them to buy an avatar, use or win them in the arcade, and buy and keep or give away equipment. I don't do much of any of these, so someone else will have to give you those details. Somebody gave me a whole pile of them when I was a newbie, and I usually just give them away when I feel like it.
Reputations build as people give you kudos for a good post. You can give reputation points to other people, too. Giving reputation doesn't cost you anything like giving blessings. But the higher your reputation, the more your kudos raise someone else's rep.
Don't know much more than that. Hope it helps.
Hope everyone had a good day today.
And you, too!

It's a yummy sort of rootbeer made from birch roots instead of sassafras roots, like regular rootbeer. It's lighter colored and has a brighter flavor. You can sometimes find it in the specialty soda area of the grocery store, next to the cream soda and that sort of thing.

OK, here is my overly simplified, condensed version:
This seems to be the central issue addressed.
Hi Paul . . . they never fully possessed the land?
Or is it that they never fully occupied the land?
I suppose I could promise you an unconditional $5 and never give it to you; all the while claiming it’s yours and I’d already given it to you – you just never possessed it...
...In Genesis chapter 13, we see that God’s promise was a literal piece of land; a land that Abraham could SEE and one that he could walk in. Its borders were determined BY what Abraham could see (vs. 15) and by him walking the length and breadth of it (vs. 16). Here we see the first land promised was pertaining to the land of Canaan (the smaller portion)...
…Here in chapter 15 we see God’s plan for Abraham and the land widening, this time the borders are given by God; from the Nile to the Euphrates...
...In Genesis 15 then, we see that God ALSO gave Israel a larger chuck, which stretches over Saudi Arabia and Iraq to the Euphrates. The land covenant made here was past tense, God GAVE it to Abraham AND to his seed; but never has there been a time in history where Israel has obtained it all OR dwelt in ALL of the land…
…the first two possessions have been fulfilled; leaving the larger one...
...If Israel failed to keep the commandments (which we later learned were a curse and could not be kept)… they would be plucked from the Land. If God had not promised to restore them, I could see a point to your argument – but the entire bible is about the restoration of the nation of Israel into all of the land...
Essentially, the person to which Paul is responding believes Israel has already fulfilled the promise concerning the land. Paul shows the error of this interpretation, or tries to. The crux of Paul's arguement is that Israel has not been in physical posession of all the land God promised, and I think he did a decent job of supporting that arguement.
I like that quote of yours, Paul, which I put in first. That states the case well. So, to summarize, one person says God promised the land to Israel and even though they never physically occupied it, they posessed it. Paul states they must physically occupy to actually posess.

Are you sad? ;) Hiya.
I took a look at the link someone gave for shoo fly pie, cuz I never knew it was a real pie. :D Looks delish  Go back a page or two and find the link. You'll see what I mean.
*cough cough
I turned on the wrong burner on my stove and nearly ruined one of my frying pans. The whole place is filled with smoke.:doh::doh:

I don't even know what a Shoo Fly Pie is... we know what fly's eat and i hope it's not found in a pie... :)
Imagine Pecan pie without the pecans. That's Shoo Fly Pie.;) The English call it Treacle, maybe that sounds more appetising than "Shoo Fly".

If you look around, you should find something that looks like a tiny magnifying glass with a plus sign in it or just a plus sign. Or even, somewhere a number with a per cent sign. Click on the plus sign to enlarge.

Nope, none of that. The normal tool bar for Acrobat disappears when I load the ebook. There are no zoom buttons. I set the default zoom higher a few times, but nothing happens in the ebook, just with my regular pdf files.

View Menu -> Toolbars -> Zoom would bring back the Zoom functions. Of course, there are plenty of other toolbars too.

It seems to work in every other Adobe software (Reader, PhotoCHOP, etc... etc....) :)

OK, i'll try...
The best fear factor would be if they handcuffed the contestants, placed them in a barrel (which was sprayed by a skunk) after eating 24 raw oysters and rolled then down a grassy hill into a small pond full of dead squids and made them dive for the handcuff key to escape while playing "Eye of the Tiger"!!!
:)

Okay, this is beginning to be a grosser than gross thread.
All contestants must carry Richard Simmons on their back as they tip toe through a field of broken glass, with one foot tied to a rabid blind badger named Ted, while drinking warm buzzard puss from a straw, all while listening to William Shatners new album.
Beat that!

I always thought they ought to change the title of that show to stupid factor or gross factor. Who could be afraid on that show?
I saw one show one day that had at the very end people having to go out on a ten foot pole that was extended out over a building that must have been twenty stories high. All they had to do was shimmy out there grab a flag and come back. You would think that would be scary right? WRONG!!! First of all they were harnessed so that if they fell, big deal, they swing around for ten seconds. Where is the danger in that? No danger, no fear.
My idea, had they followed my armchair remarks would have been as follows:
Lose the harness. If you think you may fall, you may be scared. If you cannot do without the harness, then let it be a bungy cord with a shark tank at the bottom of cord. Talk about scary eh?
Grease the pole in various spots without telling them where. Crisco would work good, and could be hidden from view.
Have the complete hit of Culture Club be blaring in the background. "Do you really want to hurt me,...." Better yet have Boy George on the other end of the pole with the flag in his mouth.
Have one of the other contestants start sawing the pole the minute they leave the building. When they are halfway back give them an electric saw, and watch the fun!
Anyway these are just some of my ideas.
By the way I do not think eating bull testicles to be a scary thing I think it is disgusting. If they want it to be fearful leave them on the bull.:P
