Thank you everyone for your prayers. The endoscopy went well but the doctor said the stricture in my throat was so narrow that I will require a second endoscopy in 2-3 weeks to dilate the stricture even further. The end effect of that will be that my throat at the point of stricture (right above the pyloric sphincter) will be 2x the width that it was prior to the endoscopies.

Endoscopies are far easier than MRIs. I had an MRI about 10 years ago and got really claustrophobic in that enclosed tube. Endoscopies only take about 10-15 minutes and you are completely out of if when they do the procedure. The most uncomfortable part of it is the not being able to eat from midnight on and not being able to eat solid food for 2 days after it. It just worries me that I will need to get one every 2 years for the rest of my life. At some point my throat isn't going to like being stretched like that.

My prayers Michael - my sister had to have one recently when she was diagnosed with Coeliac disease and she has to have another soon. By all reports it wasn't that fun.

This was my 5th since Fall '96, and my 6th will be on Feb 18th. Endoscopies (scope down the throat) are pretty easy, colonoscopies (scope up the rectum) are no fun at all.

I have had this condition, called a Schatzki's ring, since I was about 15. My esophagus is very narrow right near the junction between the stomach and esophagus and this causes food to become lodged in it. I can breathe when this happens, but the act of getting the food unlodged is quite painful.
