View Full Version : Another update on Isaac...

Isaac is still in the NICU, but he is doing better. He is off his antibiotics and is currently eating his fill of 29 ccs through his feeding tube. They are weaning him off the vent slowly. We were hoping that he'd be off by now, but when they shut it off yesterday his results weren't the greatest, so they upped it back up and will try again today. Most babies his weight and gestation that find themselves in the NICU will actually self-extubate when they are ready to breathe on their own. I keep telling Isaac to quit being lazy and spit that tube out already. He just kinda smiles and goes back to sleep.
Here's the latest pic of him. He is so sweet, even with the vent on. I can't begin to imagine what it will be like to see his whole face!!

Do they allow you to hold him with the tubes in? When my daughter was in the NICU, the first full day we couldn't even hold her (except for the first half hour after birth) and it broke our hearts. But, then they told us we could hold her and it was so nice!!!

I've only been able to hold him once so far. I've been a little too timid to ask and it seems that every time we visit, he's just done eating and they don't want them being held right after they eat. I do get to lower one side of the bassinette and touch him, though, which is good as well.
It was killing me that I couldn't hold him, so when they let me hold him I was just in 7th heaven!!

He's so sweet! Maybe he's really tired. That being born is hard work, Mom. ^_^ Maybe he's gone right to a teenager's sleep schedule. :P

I've added him to my prayer list...
And you.
He's beautiful.
What an AMAZING miracle babies are...
What a precious gift....
BTW, I was born very prematurely by "c-section" since I had a severe heart issue (no jokes, please) and they needed to get my out and do surgery. My "odds" were pretty bad, so my Dad (a minister) was ready and he baptized me right there (so my Baptism date and birthdate are one and the same). I've seen pictures of me - and it's SCARY! I was soooo skinny, rather distorted, with tubes and stuff all over me. Today, I'm very healthy and incredibly handsome.... God is good.
Keep us posted, okay?

Thank you, as always, for all your thoughts and prayers.
Today we had someone try to offer us holy anointed oil. I would've taken it to be polite but Matt declined and she practically ran away from us! It was certainly interesting.
I got to hold him WHILE he ate today. He was so sweet...he sure smiles a lot. It's like there's nothing wrong with him, aside from all the tubes and stuff.
CJ, thanks for posting that stuff...there have been some graduates of the NICU coming through lately and it is very reassuring to see these kids who are living normal lives .
You guys are wonderful! If I haven't told you lately, I LOVE YOU ALL!!

PW, if I was you, I'd be less worried about him surviving and more worried about keeping the girls away when he becomes a teenager. I am trusting that God will heal him and he will grow strong.

He is so sweet. I'll be praying that the Lord surrounds him with angels. I'll also pray for the nurses and docs taking care of him.
Of course I will pray for Isaac and for you, Beckie. This little guy justs seems so peaceful. He will truly be a great blessing to your family, no doubt in my mind.

It took another when I was 5, but yeah...
I wanted the Mom here to know of the "survivors" of all that, of which I'm one.
And thank you.

His face is shaped like that of an older child.
I don't know if this makes sense, but from what I have noticed the newly born babies faces take time to form after they are born.
Handsome baby.

Guess who's not a teenager anymore? Our little boy is all grown up! :)
Hope little Isaac is improving today. God bless.

Isaac is doing much better. They took the vent out yesterday and removed his oxygen today. He still has his feeding tube, but that's only just in case he doesn't take well to the bottle, which hasn't been a problem yet. He guzzles it down like it's the best beer in the world.
He will hopefully :prayer: come home Monday or Tuesday. It's really up to him at this point and whether or not he wants to eat what he's supposed to. So far, so good.
